Now onto Mu vs Ragna if you will. Mind you I don't know much about Mu yet as i'm still learning her so this will be helpful.

I haven't played against Mu enough to say anything personally, buuut

Uhhh... Reasons why the matchup sucks:

  1. Her 5c is the best poke in the game and trumps your 5c.
  2. Her average damage makes you look like Bang.
  3. Ragna has a hard time doing anything once he gets in due to her having arguably the best DP in the game, especially since you can't punish it with a CH.
  4. Ragna's best jumpin tool gets shit on by 2c and 6a AA.
  5. Her 2b will clash with ID on your wakeup, her oki leads to solid damage that Ragna has a hard time keeping up with in a momentum fight.
  6. Zoning's rough, especially Habayaa.

What you can do about it:

  1. Bait 5c with Dashbreak, then catch the recovery with 5b. Alternatively the startup of Hell's Fang will move him out of range, then CH her recovery for a decent punish.
  2. Don't take guesses, her CH reward is too high, her damage isn't so obscene if you're just getting clipped by little stuff and throws.
  3. I would not recommend high-risk mixup vs µ, 6d is pretty bad for resetting pressure because her dp is so good. You CAN punish the DP on whiff, but there shouldn't be a situation where you would use the tool at a range where it would whiff.
  4. There aren't many characters who can punish a wild 2c AA, and it's almost never worth the risk to try, avoid being in the air in this matchup, you need to outplay her in footsies if she doesn't have zoning tools out.
  5. Eek out whatever damage you can and end your combos in 22c. You need that reversal-safe stagger mixup to compete with her wakeup tools. The extra meter you would gain from HF enders isn't as applicable because: if you RC ID you're sitting in front of the scariest 2c in the game, which will trounce your falling j.c. You probably want to spend what little meter you do get on picking up random mid-screen hits into corner carry and knockdown via RC, you cannot afford for her to get momentum.
  6. If she summons the ball in the air, normal jump height, run under it and 5c. If she does it on the ground you are capable of jumping over it during the startup and hitting her with j.c, but only at close ranges where it would be a bad idea for the Mu to use that tool anyway. Command laser is godlike, do your best to make sure it never comes out, because if it does the only thing I might suggest doing is... reversal throw? Which is a terrible thing to do, but it just shows how bad the situation becomes when it's out.

Not to be a dick, but I never understood the whole "omg is it in their favor or what" nonsense. All that matters is if YOU can handle it. I mean that makes sense right? Like I'm not stupid for thinking that? D:

Ah ma gad why did you quote the entire thing.

Cuz i'm a boss. *Ultimate Victory* It's been changed.

@Lumin: Good info, i'll take all this into account with my lab testing.

@Volpe: Kinda like how Ga-Rei Zero only had about 3 interesting fights and everything else was dramatic bs. It's just god-like anyway so why complain?

@Papstr: You aren't stupid or anything for saying that, the way the match-up is truly decided is based on if two characters were to be played at their highest level and with people of equal skill, who would have more tools to beat out the other. If one character proves to have more tools then it's considered "in their favor." This doesn't make a matchup impossible to play if the character has more, but it puts you at a dangerous disadvantage if they do.

Fun Fact: Jackie was the first and ONLY person to astral me with Ragna back when I was still on XBL.

Haha, it's an honor. :3 Also, props on the matchup info. I actually agree that the matchup is 5-5 as of CSII.

Character designs and tools will naturally beat other designs and tools. It does all come down to players if the match-up is played correctly by both sides. In the end, it's out playing your opponent that wins a fight.

But you have to know what to use to out-play your opponent, right? That's what match-up knowledge is.

I want to say that it's 4.5-5.5 in Rags' favor so badly. Merely because i've thrown down with some of who I believe to be the best Ragnas america has on net-play (it's the only reason I know how to deal with him so well) and they've just shown it to be such. But I can see how the argument can go either way for CS2. Aksys needs to just hurry up and make Noel garbage again so I can get wins and no one can talk crap about it (they will anyways :(). Also, Bang is going to be one of my most difficult match-ups to deal with in C-SEX. Him along with Valk is what I need to focus on once it hits, and Relius maybe.

Bang is the cSEX in CSE.

5B for everything.

It's like I'm playing Ragna while playing Bang while being a Ragna main!

No no. I know this. I just see people sometimes (nobody here, actually) who put too much emphasis on the whole "is it 50:60 or 40:70?" when what matters is what you said: knowing the tools and how to use knowledge to your advantage

Yeah, I try not to blame the match-up outside of jokes. If I lost, it was because I didn't make the right decisions. Even if it was 7:3, I would still blame myself for not fighting harder against it.

This doesn't stop me from hating the Noel and Valk and Arakune match-ups

>Go into wolf form, get them blocking

>Press 5AAAAAAA (they have to block this low)

>Press 5B (they have to block this low)

>Press 5AAAAA (they have to block this low)

>Press j.A (they have to block this high)

Win game.

wolf 5b isn't low. it's a really godlike anti air though.

This is totally unrelated, and I'll get around to uploading the whole set to MTNGNetwork in case anybody's interested, but here's the Third Strike match with Tad vs. Astaroth you guys should see if you haven't already:

Yeah Bang really needed the 5b buff. His poking game and frametraps are lackluster in CSII because 5b is pretty slow. Plus the 5d being back to launching the opponent gives him the much needed midscreen damage he needed.

I'm really looking forward to extend but I'm hoping they add more characters than just Relius if they are making it a stand alone disc. I really don't feel like a single character and balance changes is worth 40 dollars. For people who didnt buy valk plat and mak it might be but...for those who did I feel it isn't worth it since CSII patch was free and relius is probably worth 5 bucks like the rest of the dlc characters. Added story content for the dlc characters is not worth the additional 35 dollars so it feels like a rip off to me. but eh I like arcsys games...I just hate their marketing.
