Middle Tennessee Needs Gaming! Monthly Versus Tourneys - Antioch, TN

For those wondering about the direction we'd be going for MTNG, here's a ponderous, tentative lineup that is open for discussion:

KOF13, Persona4(releases Aug7) , Skullgirls, Guilty Gear(not R, yet)

Dropped Soul, Marvel, and BlazBlue for consistent lack of entries.

I am open to rational and level-headed discussion about the lineup.

Is anyone considering, or did anyone already get Spelunky on 360 arcade? I've been eyeballing it for a while now.

As long as Blazblue can be reconsidered once BB3 comes out, I'm okay with this. I'm hype for P4 and GG, and once I get my KoF back, I'll be putting more effort into that as well. I'll be disenchanted by Skullgirls until that balance patch comes out.

And I hate to break it to you guys, but I'll be taking our first *real* Guilty Gear tournament. Sorry vets. And I don't wanna hear any "bwaaaaaah he just lamed me out" shit, either. I'm gonna be the next Kusoru. The American Kusoru. Amerikusoru.

I would've liked to see Guilty stay a side-tourney sort of thing, honestly, I won't enter it if it becomes one of the main tournament line-up. Other than that, I have no qualms with the line-up.

On that note, how do you think MLG sponsorships will work with P4A? I heard something about talent scouts or whatever for another game hearing about a nomination or application then checking out players and their knowledge of the game, but I can't exactly remember the context.

Volpe: Glad you are out. How did you loose 15 pounds? Which got smaller, your brain or your nutsack? You went in for being black and got out for being too skinny to rape? Srsly, glad it's all good now.

It had to be my brain, I felt cells dying from the lack of stimulation. I literally felt slower when I got out and I had to get a little used to stuff again. Looking people in the eyes is actually weirder for me. But really it was prob a combination of having nothing to do but pace in my cell all day and the healthy diet. It's also kinda hard to give your balls some relief while a bunch of dudes are outside yelling and grunting.

AND WHILE I'M EDITING THE SHIT OUT OF EVERYTHING, DARK SOULS PREPARE TO DIE/ ARTORIAS OF THE ABYSS IS GONNA BE THE SHITTTTT. The trailer had what looked like might be a PVP arena.

I like the lineup. Although I would have liked to see P4:U be a side-tourney sort of thing, honestly, it's too weaboo and I don't want a bunch of fat kids wearing cat ears and sailor moon t-shirts attending my monthly tournaments.

Hey I'm not against keeping anything. My reasons for striking these games is just sheer turnout.

I want Astaroth to be here because he's a baller. If there's some insight into why no one ever shows up to my Marvel tournies, but they show up elsewhere, I want to know so I can fix this.

Star/Naimat- I don't know about you guys, but I couldn't care less about where a game rests in a tournament's "line-up." If there's a tournament for a game I care about going on, it wouldn't make a bit of difference to me if it's a main event or a side tournament. I'd show up to compete in it anyway. You're not going to turn away weeaboo fgts by calling their game a "side event" or something. If anything, that'll only attract HIPSTER weeaboo fgts. So just call what's in the line-up "the line-up" and compete in it if you want.

I'll still attend, but I might only be playing P4, until GG comes out on 360. The reason we don't get numbers is because our monthly always falls on the same weekends of other monthlies around here. Alabama doesn't attend because I'm the only Marvel player, and I'm not sure how many of their weeaboo players exist/go to tournaments.

SC5 is dead around here. I accept that. Marvel is active around TN, but not close enough to get regulars in.

Agreed. We could get a new crowd of Bama players that could attend MTNG tourneys and get super mad entries from it. Gear is hype and growing down there and it can have a potential scene here as well. They're getting into AC to get a good feel for the system and basics for when AC-R comes out. Fuck worrying about new combos. We're all use to that with new revisions of the next GG and BB games. We're men. Wouldn't hurt to get ahead start for when the revision comes out. I think it's definitely a good addition to the lineup.

I can't tell if Naimat is trolling or not :P If not, you have no idea how good it is to body insanely hardcore weeaboo fags that wear cat ears and such. Free money for those who are going to take this game seriously, lol. Either way, I might dick around with P4 if I get enough cash and catch the hype wave in time for it. Definitely wouldn't hurt to add it to the lineup as well.

It's pretty much this except with some honorifics added to it. I pretty much don't want to pay much more than what I did during the GG side-tournament we had to play it. Especially since I won't go far enough into it to get competitive, my interest level with this game goes on and off so much that now i'm saying "f*** it"

If it stays side-tournament status, i'm in. If not, no harm done. I'll just be the odd-man-out...as usual

I'm good with that lineup, but what are your thoughts on AE? Would you be throwing that in there or keeping it out?

BB is my game, and I would still show up to play it whenever I can, but as long as we have either GG or P4U there I don't mind it being gone.

Soul Calibur I would like to keep though, just because it's amazing. With some extra exposure we could get more people there.

Is there a way for us to coordinate with other events that happen every month (AE, KOF, and such) and run GG/P4 as like a "side" or "main" event during those days? I feel like TN is in this awkward situation where we have these 2 communities that go to the same place but never interact. I think it would help the numbers. I'm gonna be playing the shit outta GG. You better believe it. And heck I'd get into AE too if given the chance.

Let me throw in more: Dunno if I'll play P4U, and even if I did, it would be just to tide me over until GG hits. I don't see the whole terminology issue of GG being "side" or not. If we're only running like 2 games, then it being "side" is kinda silly since its two games anyway. Hell it could cost a penny and still be a "main" event. Call it a side tournament? Nah. Make it cheaper? I mean I won't complain but whatever.

One last edit (maybe): Jackie: No I'M the american kusoru. I've already got Riot stomp FRCs and wake up grand vipers down to an ART. The other day I FRC Riot stomp'd into grand viper RC into wild throw on Kain and it was magic. All on a pad. Goddamn I need a ps2 stick or something to practice this game. I'm afraid if I play it on pad too much I'll turn into Milln and be like "durr cant play KOF on stick" except with GG.

I think Gear should be ran as a full round robin Ranbat, every time. We've got the setups, and let it run all day, as the semi-casual tournament for a while. Make it cheap, and we all play it most of the day, should have time for everyone to get all thier matches in. Keep points and such, and we can always change to a standard tournament whenever. I figure that way, everyone has the most chance to improve as fast as possible.
