Seiki Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 I like fighting games, but I don't like it to the point of wanting to compete at the national level. Being all competitive and stuff sucks the fun out of games for me.
Volpe-de-Glacio Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 Looking on it again, it's really all I'd need; fuck the money, I want to fight niggas all over and get better. I don't know any other way to play, and I don't see how anything changes just because you're broadening the range of your opponents. I'd rather progress than stagnate.
Milln Posted September 5, 2012 Author Posted September 5, 2012 That sad moment when I learned sponsorships weren't all I thought they were cracked up to be. https://p.twimg.com/A10ieeHCYAAn9gv.jpg:large Still, it seems good for getting experience; they let you go wherever and enter whenever if you aren't sweating the monies. What did you think they were? Sponsorships are business agreements so that both parties profit. The sponsored's way is paid for most everything for all their opportunities and the sponsor reaps the benefits of whomever is under their wing such as increased recognition, volume, income, and other benefits. Different companies ask for different compensations, as well. Some might even pose a stipulation that you have to actually WIN a certain percentage of the events you travel to(making you a profitable commodity) in addition to wearing clothings or accessories provided to you by the company and talking about your benefactor. You also have to be marketable to certain degree. Failure to do this will see your sponsorship removed. Typically. Different companies are different, but the above is pretty catch-all. In fact, a couple vVv players lost their sponsorship and were actually the cause of vVv's fighting game sect completely dissolving because they didn't promote their benefactor "enough". Edit Afterthought: I'm not being snarky. I'm just plainly stating.
Volpe-de-Glacio Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 I realized all that; I just originally thought the requirement of the player was pretty much always exposure and advertising for the sponsor, and the money was theirs to keep. It makes sense, I'm not arguing against that, I'm just saying it cleared up the nature of such a contract. I worded my original post rather poorly, because it's not actually a bad deal imo. I'd definitely accept.

Volpe-de-Glacio Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 Oh no, that isn't for me. I just thought it was interesting that DC posted what his sponsorship contract looked like. Maybe one day, if I get the shot.

Volpe-de-Glacio Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 (edited) I'll claw my way the top eventually. P4U/UNiB Volpe. I'm comin' for ya. :@ Also, when are team doubles coming back, if ever? Edited September 5, 2012 by Volpe-de-Glacio
Milln Posted September 5, 2012 Author Posted September 5, 2012 Also, when are team doubles coming back, if ever? I'll see what I can do for October's King of Bling, but it's likely that doubles will have to wait until next year.
LastStarSaviour Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 At least sponserships for Persona are possible. If anything, i'd love to get sponsored in BB:CP and maybe UNIB. However, those two may not turn out to be as successful as P4U. It's ashame better games don't get more recognition.
Volpe-de-Glacio Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 (edited) I wouldn't put it like that, but there is some truth in there. People shun quality games for the dumbest of reasons. It's fine if something doesn't suit your tastes, but don't lambast it and deter curious players from trying it out for fear of the stigma of being an "xx player". And on the same hand, the niche fighter communities like to shoot themselves in the feet constantly, ala Mitsuru jeering at tournaments and shit talking players from other fighters. It's a really dumb situation. /rant Edited September 5, 2012 by Volpe-de-Glacio
LastStarSaviour Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 Subjective. Pretty much. I shouldn't have really mentioned Under-Night due to the fact that I don't have it yet, but i'm kind of banking on it being better than Persona. The same goes for BB. That's mostly due to BB being much more balanced than P4U. Heard you were playing Aquapazza, Milln. @Volpe: People usually shun quality games because they never actually had a chance at getting better/tried to get better, that's about all there is to it. As for the niche fighter community, we've been a lost cause for as long as I could remember. Edit: BB is a better game
Jackie Chandler Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 Man, I'm so out of practice. In everything. I've barely had time to touch my 360 this past week and it shows. I may have lost my S Rank, but I feel like I learned quite a bit about Mitsuru's frame traps and the basics of how to play against her.
LastStarSaviour Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 @Jackie: Frame traps? What be those? All about MASHING THAT 5A!! Lol, nah in all seriousness though, that match-up is going to require you having a strong defense (Block low and i'm free in all aspects. I have one overhead and I can't even combo off that without meter) Block my 5As and instant block my coup droits for easy punishes. In fact, narukami's normals are so good you may not need to instant block coup droit. If you see random coup droits and 5As, you can even do the retarded slide that he has to low profile my moves, might want to practice doing so in training mode. Use your 5B to outpoke me and whatnot. Go for DP safe pressure, maybe throwing a 5A and 2A out there, but nothing fancy unless you have Ragna/Ada out there putting on the pressure for you. Ultimately though, i'm free to people who can block...LOW! If you need match-up experience, hit me up on PSN. I'll gladly take Ragna 2.0 on.
Jackie Chandler Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 Haha, thanks for the tips Star. A couple things I noticed I was getting caught by a lot were her 4B and 5D. The Mitsuru I played would do Coup Droit -> 4B a lot, and whether the preceding special hit or not, trying to press 2A afterward (in anticipation of a grab/5A) when she did 4B meant a free Fatal Counter + corner carry + ~4.5K. But after some experimenting, I found out I can catch her with a 5B if I slightly delay it- in the mean time, I can just block in case she does a 5A, or try to react to a grab attempt. As for her 5D, I quickly found out that it's as easy to react to as Yu's 236C, and that I can just reaction 214D it (plus a OMB combo out of it, if she doesn't have a Burst available). And okay, this seriously pisses me off. I haven't had the best track record tonight, but I've only lost a couple games since I lost my S Rank, and I've won about 5-6. The last game I played was a Rank Down opportunity, and I just barely lost. This game's ranking system is bullshit.
LastStarSaviour Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 Yeah, we like to go for a lot of gimmicks like sweep feint>dash>fully charged 4B to try and fake out a grab.
Volpe-de-Glacio Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 I wouldn't be so annoyed by the ranking system if I didn't have to wait like 20 minutes for a quality match.
Milln Posted September 5, 2012 Author Posted September 5, 2012 Edit: BB is a better game Edit: Street Fighter is a better game Edit: UMVC3 is a better game Edit: BB is a better game Edit: Persona is a better game Valkyrie Profile is a better game Subjective. You need to precede these statements with "I think that..." otherwise you're stating it as fact, when it's really just an opinion. Yeah, I was playing Aquapazza earlier. It's okay. That's all I have. It's just okay. *shrug* I think i'd rather play Vanguard Princess than Aquapazza.
LastStarSaviour Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 I'd figured you'd take the edit as a troll comment, which it is. It's cool, I was type interested in playing it...I think, which is why I brought it up. I'd like to try it out. You should bring it to MTN next time if you aren't ashamed of having it out in public.

I did. That's why I threw Valkyrie Profile in there. I'm not the one that owns it. The Aigis player does. He's a friend of Patrick's, so it's likely that he'll bring it. I like Chizuru and Sasara. Sasara + Ulthuya = Lenneth + Freya = Valkyrie Profile team. The only team. Yeah, i'm on a huge VP kick.
LastStarSaviour Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 From what I saw, the chick with the arrows, Morgan I think her name is or something, looks interesting.
Milln Posted September 5, 2012 Author Posted September 5, 2012 I only played her a couple times, but I didn't find her all that great. 20 arrows and her moves don't -feel- like they work well together. Her crossup is blatant and her command jump is asking to get hit. Her C also felt unsafe on hit.
LastStarSaviour Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 I see. Hopefully i'll get to try her out and a few other characters. I'm not really sure how the heck the game works honestly. It looks like you have assists like Marvel except using them puts you in like a temporary X-factor, except with different effects depending on the characters? Let me know if i'm getting warm.
