Klein Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 It's been a great year of tournaments, shoutouts time. First and foremost to Milln for running and setting up everything (with help) getting stuff hype, and of course hanging out after the tournament. Tad - For not only getting me out to MTNG almost every month, btu also being a cool dude before, during, and after the tournament, the more I think about 'Guilty conscience' the more hyped for it I get. That Jam player who called out my fullscreen DoT before the tournament with a clash that I didn't know could happen because I've never fought a Jam outside of arcade mode before. Good games man, those were a lot of fun. (Sorry for forgetting your name, I'm terrible with names) That other Hakumen main I always talk to between fights but can't remember the name of because above terrible with names, I THINK it's Xeno, and I definitely remember you riding to MTN with Pickle. It's always fun talking about Hakumanz stuff, kind of a shame we never got to fight even though mirrors kinda suck :P Yoshi - For recognizing my most important feature instantly and calling me by it, "Beard" owes a shoutout. Jackie - For knocking out a whole wall of electronics and getting BOOOO'd for winning, I mean uh- Always helping out with stuff around the tournament, being a cool dude, winning 'dat money, and even bringing in new people. Rock on dude, hope to see ya in the somewhat near future at another tournament. Volpe - PLACING SECOND AS HAKUMEN, WHAT? Awesome work dude, I was really impressed by how solid your Hakumen has become. Also, I only did a handful of matches, so you probably didn't miss much :P LastTrollSaviour - GGs in GG, and I wasn't THAT quiet, was I? Papstr - ORANGES SO DIRTY, IT'S TRUE. GGs man, going a month or two without practice for a tournament is the best way to do it. Also, adding you on LoL 'cus we should mash oranges and inspire rage over the web. Vocal Sabre - that hoodie is really cool, and it was nice meeting you, hope to see you around next year or November (same goes to everyone else as well) AzurePhoenix - you were the Platinum that knocked me into loser's, right? Assuming I got your name right, good games man, I've fought some good Platinums and know what they look like. Yours was solid, keep up the good work. KO - If I ever hear Papstr was found dead in a dark alley with an old Gamecube controller and a copy of Smash bros around, I'll know exactly what happened. Also, thanks for the explanation on Gunblade trynd, I always just assumed it was an item for trolling on him. Naimat - good to see you come out and play, even CS2 Bang is fun to watch and Apples to Apples was lulzy way before Jackie dropped Hiroshima. Anyone I forgot, sorry, but I gotta go right now, harass me over it and I'm sure I'll think of something.
Jackie Chandler Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 All right, let's do these shout-outs (in alphabetical order after Milln): --- Milln: I can't possibly thank you enough for everything you do. None of this would have been possible without you- and I'm not just talking about the tournaments. You've brought together an awesome group of people, and kept us together as a group of friends. I can honestly say I've had more fun this past year of MTN than I've had the rest of my life combined (and no, I don't care if that sounds sad :P). I know you won't be able to run tournaments for the next couple months, but stay in touch with us if at all possible. I don't know if I can handle a complete Milln hiatus until January. D: So, until next the next tournament you run, stay hype, stay awesome, and stay Milln. :D (P.S. Snowboard Kids has been majestically positioned on my nightstand. So much <3) Astaroth: I- I perfected you three times? Are you serious? O_O Damn Astaroth, I'm sorry. I hope you don't feel like I was trying to take a dump on you or anything like that, because I definitely wasn't. My games against you were the most intense of yesterday's BB games, and the last thing I'd want is for you to feel otherwise. I'm happy we got to play in a legit tourney again, though, and I'm looking forward to you returning the favor in November's tourney in literally every game we play. :3 On a side note, my parents brought up a good point about November's MTN- if we hold it the last Saturday of the month, it's going to be on the same weekend as Thanksgiving/break. Not only will a lot of people be out of town or spending time with their folks, but the mall will probably be having weekend sales and stuff that'll make things more hectic. May I suggest we make it the next to last Saturday instead for November's MTN? AzurePhoenix: OMG WE HAVE A PLATINUM MAIN? :O Dayum, awesome. Thanks for coming down from Memphis, for competing as a character our scene hasn't had in a tourney yet, and for letting Star borrow your converter. It was a pleasure meeting you in person. Hope you can make MTN a regular thing. :D Cyner: Dude, we didn't talk, like... At all. :[ Your Hakumen seems to be going well, though, and I'm really happy you were able to make it out again. Thanks for coming! Maybe next time I'll have more time to talk. X3 Doromac: "Do you really not wanna get Astral'd that bad?" Lol. Sorry Doromac, you know how I am. :3 It's good to see your Valk is still in shape, and I'm happy I got to face you in person yesterday. I can't wait to get destroyed by you in UMvC3 though. :D Falcon: Dood, where were you all day? I only talked to you... Like... As you were heading out. Plus, we never got in that Guilty Gear game either. :[ So, be sure to show up next time. We'll get in that GG game, and I'll play you in BB for sure. :] Grimstar: >:[ Justin: It was good seeing you out again, sir. I would have loved to play some Melty Blood with you in the arcade (I actually looked a bit more into the game, so I've improved just a tad) but they took it out of the machine for something else. :'< That new one better come out soon, or else I'm gonna cry. K.O.: Man, did you leave like halfway through or something? You just kinda vanished at some point, and I have no idea where you went. >_>; In any case, thanks for showing up again. You're a cool and funny dude. Klein: I still can't believe you're only 17. How have you not been charged with underage possession of one of the manliest beards in existence yet? :3 I'm sorry to say I didn't get to see you play yesterday, though, but I'm sure your Hakumen's coming along nicely (especially with a stick like that). Keep up the good work. :] Naimat: Great games yesterday, man. Both matches were extremely close, and I'm glad you kept me on the edge of my seat. I think that really helped me later in the tourney. :D I hope me winning the tourney caused some desalinization on the fact I knocked you out. I know I'm not your person of choice to get knocked out by, but at least I didn't beat you and get knocked out next game. XD In any case, I'm sure that'll give you some incentive to practice and try to body me next time. I'm looking forward to it. :] Papstr: Because I clearly haven't given you enough crap about it already- be sure to wake up on time next MTN. XP Practice dem Ragna combos, and practice dat UMvC3 when you get it. I'm counting on it. :] Also, thanks for commentating with Pickle and stuff. That's sure to add hype icing to the top of the hype cake. :D Oh, and one more thing- be sure to study your pre-cal. :3 Pickle: Dayum, Pickle. You've improved. I didn't see a single purple throw in our matches together (I think). :3 I'm glad you were able to make it down again. You're such a cool guy to talk and hang out with. And like I said to Papstr, thanks for commentating. I REALLY hope we can make this a regular thing. :D Star: And yet another tournament you put me into the loser's bracket. I really need to start practicing my Noel matchup. :P Still, it's easy to see how much you've improved, and why you've been pushing for everyone else to step it up recently. I'm happy you made it out yesterday, and that you weren't near as salty as I thought you might be (no offense). :3 Keep up the good work! Tad: Your main is Valkeneto, and you make him look broken as shit. XD I told you yesterday and I'll tell you again- I'm seriously impressed with how much you've improved in such little time. It makes me really happy to hear that you don't plan on playing by the book- I wish more people did, because it can give such an edge on the competition, as well as your experience with the game. You're in the running for first place in the next MTN. I'm looking forward to seeing you compete then. :D P.S. I'm REALLY looking forward to Guilty Conscience. I'll do EVERYTHING I can to make it. :] Tret: Thanks for coming up and giving it a shot, Tret. You told me you expected to get bodied, but I was really impressed with how well you performed. I'll help you work out the kinks best I can before the next tourney. :] Vocal Sabre: Call me a weeaboo, but I'm totally jelly of your wallet and Japanese-speaking skills. It was cool to see you at MTN again, especially seeing how much you've gotten better. Make it out again next time, man. :D Volpe: Dear god Volpe, how did you grind so efficiently to level up this much? XD Really, I couldn't believe it. You had me nervous as fuck every round (which is probably why I seemed so throw-heavy, seeing as how you're so consistent with landing Hakumen's counters). Don't sell yourself short, though- Grand Finals were definitely hype. Hakumen's Distortion whiffing because of Dead Spike was lulzy and unexpected (even for me), and I didn't even know it was possible to grab Ragna out of Carnage Scissors. All in all, it was a fine Grand Finals, and I'm happy to have faced you in it. Work hard to make it there again, all right? :D Wes: Basically, the same thing I said to Tret. I didn't let on about it much, but I was impressed with your performance as well. I'll be happy to try and show you what you're lacking so you can do better next MTN. :] Zeno: I swear to god, I have no idea why I can never remember your name for some reason. ;_; Congrats on beating Michael Jackson's Moonwalker (lol). Other than that... We didn't really talk much during the tournament, and I never got to see you play. :/ If you're doing good, keep up the good work! If not... Uh... Get better and stuff! XP Anyone I forgot: Cut me some slack and look at the size of this message. Let me know I forgot you and I'll give you a shoutout in a nice, clean comment of your own. X3 --- Just a few other things- I thought it was kind of funny how a bunch of you felt goofy/unconfident/silly/whatever after answering the Community Questions on camera. Seriously, everybody gave VERY good answers- I was more than happy with you guys' responses. Thanks again for helping us with footage for Get Exposed. :D I apologize for knocking the power out on pretty much everything before the tournament. Richard warned us that might happen because they didn't have time to do any tests, but I didn't think a few setups would be enough to kill the entire wall, along with some of the arcade machines on the OTHER SIDE OF THE ROOM. It turns out there were a lot of arcade machines I didn't account for, but it was definitely my fault for trying to put too much on one outlet, so I'm sorry. And I hope everybody enjoyed Apples to Apples. I hate how obnoxious my laugh is, and I get a kick out of things way too easily, but hopefully that didn't get in the way of everyone's fun. Great moments in that game, including Naimat playing "Naimat" on the "Annoying" card (especially without it being picked), "Oranges" in general, "AIDS" for actually being played, and "Hiroshima" landing in my hand again. Great times indeed. Can't wait to play you guys in it again (assuming people *would* want to play it again). :] Until next time, stay fresh and keep practicing, you guys. It'd be really hype for me to be dethroned real soon, just sayin'. :D
Astaroth136 Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 On a side note, my parents brought up a good point about November's MTN- if we hold it the last Saturday of the month, it's going to be on the same weekend as Thanksgiving/break. Not only will a lot of people be out of town or spending time with their folks, but the mall will probably be having weekend sales and stuff that'll make things more hectic. May I suggest we make it the next to last Saturday instead for November's MTN? I haven't really looked at the calendar and looked into the dates yet. This morning, I also thought about how Milln brings most of the TVs for us, while I have none to bring. On top of that, I have to find two concerts to attend this month for my Music class, and the free ones usually happen on the weekends. Jason (the guy who owns most of those arcade machines for those who don't know) might be planning something for Ultimate anyway. I'll update you all regularly through the weeks. Shoutouts still in reserve. My head is throbbing...
Seiki Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 If I'm going to win one of these tournaments I need to focus on BB and limit the number of fighting games I play.
LastStarSaviour Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 I'm surprised you don't place high Naimat. Then again, when it comes to characters, Bang doesn't rank well in terms of reward for most of his hit-confirms and punishes, plus there's always the random factor during a match you have to calculate as well. Just play Jin, you might see better results.
Milln Posted October 31, 2011 Author Posted October 31, 2011 Results Post has been updated with the BlazBlue bracket. I don't care enough to upload the Melee Brax. Milln shoutouts time, in order that they appear in brax. Klein- You don't talk to other players enough. Otherwise you'd have added Papstr on League already. Be less reserved and BRING SNIPE BACK, WTF WHERE IS HE HE HAS NO EXCUSE THIS I DO NOT BELIEVE. You should also like... actually play BlazBlue. Vocal Sabre- You're a pretty legit dude. Love the stuff you make/acquire such as your Hello Kitty glasses, Hatsune Miku wallet, and Hakumen hoodie. You should bring fine details to Guilty Conscience about making things. "Adolf Hitler did clean out half the world of jews, so this one wins." XD Papstr- Play BlazBlue and stop scrubbin' it up in Leagues before I have to come in and start tanking for you. Bad luck getting beat out by two Hakumen players in a row, dude. I see you had interest in Psychic Force 2012. It'll be at GC. Get at me sometime and i'll play Leaguesies with you and some Blazzies with you. You're a great dude. AzurePhoenix- "I'mma fly away on my carousel, now!" Haha good talking to you man, no one knows what to do against Plat and you legitimately had Astaroth scared to go against you. Little did he know that Volpe is a monster, now. Come back next year, we'll all welcome you. Tret- You're a bro. Shenanigans- I didn't really talk to you, much, so unfortunately I have nothing to shout, other than I know you were getting in on some Capcom vs. SNK. Zeno- I'm pretty sure everyone underestimates you everytime you show up in a match, and then you take their victory. Keep it up, man. I wanna see you teabag some peeps with your popsicle stick. Tad- Tad Tad Tad Tad Tad. I know you feel old, but you aren't man. You're only as old as you act and I act about twelve. We all love the heck out having you around and respect you. Those are some crazy wolf plays I saw with the backdash transformation to evade attacks or counters and then nom all over 'em. Ballin' playing some Psychic Force 2012 with you, man. It's deep down one of my favorite games and it was a thrill to play it with someone again. Also, fur is pretty nasty. Cyner- You feel so standoffish whenever I talk with you, but I know you're chill. I think it's our hats battling it out. Bummer you guys had to leave. Volpe- Hooooollllyyyyy Crap. Dude, you just told everyone how gay they are by bodying your way into some hype-ass winner's brackets. You need more sleep. Saw you fallin' asleep at the table there. Wesley- You're a bro. Star- "Milln, we have a new development. I need to be in this tournament." I already talked with you in the car on the way to O'Charley's, i'm glad you feel how you feel now. GET A CONVERTER. Jackie- WOOOOO MAH BOY WINNIN' THAT MONAAAAYYYY Wtf man, How did you manage tripping the breaker. I must have not been in the room or paying some serious non-attention to miss that chance to heckle you. You're fired for disrupting tournament play. Good job almost getting DQ'd, too, with two minutes, fourty-three seconds to spare to come back and take the tournament. Awesome domination in grand finals, you did great, getting into everyone's heads and getting stomp on their face. Perfecting Astaroth like eight times(an exaggeration? Maybe.) and then not letting up on Volpe to get your first place. Proud o' you, my Ragna son. I told you, you gotta put that spin on it, when you throw sharks. Doromac- I love hanging out with you man, I'll get back with you on more details about the poster. We'll see about some Ultimate when it comes out, alright? Jams Legs- Glad you guys made it out and glad I could introduce you to Tad! Astaroth- You're still my Astaroth. Soul Cal comes out January 31st if they don't change the date. *thumbs up* I'm betting that this has shaken you up and put you into labwork mode, eh? TheFalcon- You're a boss and unfortunately I didn't get to talk to you much! It's awesome hanging with you and bummer you guys had to leave early. Naimat- I thought for sure you'd end up in winners. You really gave Astaroth a sense of confidence. "If I can beat Bang, I'm winning the tournament." I'm telling you, man. Spider nail is the answer to everything. Spider nail forever. Pickle- Pickle, I heard you bodied some fgts. Keep it up, man, you have one of the wildest Ragnas i've seen. We don't do it by the book, we just throw sharks O'Charley's Staff- Thank you for clearing a table for us on short notice and being tolerant of our antics. Richard & Jason- Thank you for your support and allowances. You run a fine establishment.
Seiki Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 I don't want to play to win so I'm not going to switch characters just because I'm losing. And there is no denying I like playing Bang more than I do Jin. I just need to play BB more and drop learning other games like SFIV which I don't enjoy as much as I thought. Let alone my research is occupying a lot more time and so is work so i dont have the luxury of getting good at multiple games. I know Bang is a viable character and I know I am skilled enough to win a tournament I just don't practice enough so my skill isn't polished come tournament time. I think come January I'll have enough time to get myself into good shape...maybe even back to how good I was in CT. idk. If you guys thought I was good now...it's nowhere near how good I was in CT, but that was because that's all I played everyday.
LastStarSaviour Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 (edited) Wait...I thought you....were..trying.......to....what? Anyways, I just pretty much quoted everything you said to me in that last post. Bang isn't really that bad but it's just that if you don't put fear in a person's heart to make them respect those blockstrings then you get nowhere. Again, this is incredibly hard to do since this is America, and we don't respect anything! Edited October 31, 2011 by LastStarSaviour
Seiki Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 I just have to focus on observing the opponent's pattern more. And people who mash on block will beat out my high/low mixups since they aren't true blockstrings, but that's what frame traps are for and I just need to incorporate it more into my game. Like I said before, I have all the knowledge, the tools, and execution to do really well. I just need to polish it. RIght now I'm just a rough diamond that needs to be cut.
Volpe-de-Glacio Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 I can bring my HD tv again, though it takes up a bit of space. I could maybe bring another CRT or two, but one is like 13 inches and the other is heavy as hell. In any case, my body is fucking ready for King of Fighters XIII. I wasn't really digging it at first, but once I saw Iori and Leona I knew I had to get it. Is it going to end up on the roster, or is there even enough hype for that?
Jackie Chandler Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 I don't think we'd need that many T.V.s brought, Astaroth- just one HD TV if we're going to be recording, unless Milln (or whoever the rest of the TVs belong to) takes the ones from the storage room back to their place (not to rag on anyone if they do, I mean, it's their TVs after all :P). We should be fine with the majority of the TVs there if that isn't the case. Oh, and I know there are at least a couple people here who will be interested in this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_foqkDzsvtQ
LastStarSaviour Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 A Phoenix Wright live action movie. I gotta go kill myself with something blunt now.
Jackie Chandler Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Make it with a statue of "The Thinker" for ironic purposes, Star. :3 (Don't actually kill yourself plz) I've gotten around to editing some of the tourney matches today, and I've already noticed something odd. There's at least one place where the recording "hiccups" in both sound and audio (while still remaining in sync, thank God) and skips a few seconds of a match- but when it picks back up, the players have paused (assumedly because they lost video to the TV when the capture card did). I'd imagine it has to do with the power problems we had with everything crammed in that corner. I made the effort to cut out the pause screen, but there's still going to be a bit of footage that was lost. Just so you guys know I'm not doing a half-assed job of editing. :P
Astaroth136 Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Milln reminded me that I did say "If I can take Naimat's Bang out, I'll win the tournament." That should show how fearful I was in that matchup and how confident I felt against Haku and Ragna. It wasn't a statement of players' skills, but instead was a testament of my matchup experience.
Jackie Chandler Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 You aren't worried people took that the wrong way, are you Astaroth? I mean, I don't remember where you said it, but I caught what you meant right off the bat. :P
LastStarSaviour Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 (edited) @Jackie: That happened to a few people including myself. We'll understand what happened when we watch it so don't sweat it. @Astaroth: You're leaving a few others out man. Such as me and Azure, I don't know how he handles Tager but i've been giving you trouble even with my converter issues. I don't want to hear this "Take out one person and victory's assured stuff." I'm taking a victory and knocking you into loser's next time. That's a promise. Someone stop me if this is not proper competitive talk Edited October 31, 2011 by LastStarSaviour
Volpe-de-Glacio Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Nah, I think tellin' a nigga you're coming for them is perfectly within bounds. I'd be at it myself but I'm nowhere near comfortable enough with my Hakumen to trash talk. Just know that I'm going in on the next one.
Milln Posted October 31, 2011 Author Posted October 31, 2011 You guys are missing something. He was talking to me about how confident he was against Hakumen and Platinum, but not against Bang and not disregarding players. Haha, Astaroth, I think you'd have been fine if you didn't try to clarify. XD
Jackie Chandler Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 ^That's what I was about to say. Competitive talk is certainly within bounds, Star, but what Astaroth said is that he DIDN'T mean for it to come off the way you took it. XP
Klein Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 My interpretation of Snipe's excuse "I'M A YOUNG SCRUB AND MY DAD SUX WAH WAH WAH" insulting my best bud aside, I MIGHT pick up Hakumen again when CSE rolls around, but CS2 Hakumen does not satisfy my turtling/zoning/punishing game nearly as much as I'd like, he never has, and I suck as any other character. 60% life+ punishes in GG however are all kinds of sexy to me so long as my execution will catch up.
Astaroth136 Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 You aren't worried people took that the wrong way, are you Astaroth? I mean, I don't remember where you said it, but I caught what you meant right off the bat. :P Again, it wasn't about you all's skills. It was more of me thinking, "I'm comfortable in these matchups. I've played them plenty and I know how to handle them with Tager." As soon as it was said, I knew how it was perceived though. Gave a little extra drive to you guys too. This may have been before I knew you jumped in the tournament last minute, or I just forgot. Either way, the Noel matchup doesn't scare me. As for Azure, he was a very solid player that I expected in top 3, and this expectation stemmed from NOBODY having experience against Plat. Luckily, I have played more than a hundred matches against a great Plat online (the Tager mod, in fact), so he's shown me nearly everything. I know her best and worst weapons, blockstrings and mixups, and where to punish. For example, the only thing she can do out of a blocked 2C is heartcar, which is punishable. That said, I still wanted to play him to see how it went.
Astaroth136 Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 You guys are missing something. He was talking to me about how confident he was against Hakumen and Platinum, but not against Bang and not disregarding players. Haha, Astaroth, I think you'd have been fine if you didn't try to clarify. XD I think you're right. LOL
LastStarSaviour Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 (edited) Would've sounded better if you said something like "this tournament will be easier once I get rid of Bang" Idk, oh well it doesn't rreally matter. I don't think victory can be assured because of how well you know a matchup though (i've done this many times and people always change the game on me). A person can easily shatter those illusions. I used to be worried about Tager myself but honestly he's simple if you put it on paper and study it. Of course this doesn't stop you. Anyways, that's merely what I was getting at. Edited October 31, 2011 by LastStarSaviour
Volpe-de-Glacio Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 I got lucky in that I run into a beast Plat with a decent connection on ranked quite often, so I wasn't unprepared. (Which makes me angry I went autopilot and followed 5d with 5c instead of 2c, which I could actually work with.) It was nice seeing someone rep a new character to the scene, though.
LastStarSaviour Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 We had a Lambda player too I believe.
