Third, in a few days I'll probably hash through a post-mortem of the tourney and point out what worked well and what can be improved for future. Or at least what little I remember of it. :wasted:

Or I can defer to SpiritJuice.

Thanks for running the tournament, ladies! Despite all the problems, I still had a blast.

It was really fun playing both of you and playing against other familiar faces and new ones. Definitely looking forward to next Evo. Hopefully I'll have a better Baiken (plan to practice seriously) next time to show off.

So yeah...take care y'all! d(^_^)b

On my youtube account. I only have 1 Guilty match up so far (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVKZMVLHktM), but I'm working on getting more up whenever I have free time. Next will be 2 of RF's team matches.

edit: those 2 matches i mentioned are up. just keep an eye on my youtube channel for more.

More than the tourney itself, it was great to meet so many of you guys that I've seen and chatted with over the years. The #reloadonlineers: Dodging Sanoshi, j.K spamming Blitz, and the twins. Dustloop peoples I've followed and chatted with on here in AKA, Elvenshadow, Hellmonkey, Mizerable, Spirit Juice and so many others. And after like 3 years, catching up with Washington (aka Korea plus a Sytha) scene. And I can't forget the Toronto crew, it was great to see Zeero, K2, Sapphire and co. again after four years. Keep playing guys. Oh and Stone too, even though we met late in MvC3 and you eliminated me, you are still a cool guy.

I just hope that this community stays together long enough to survive until the next iteration of GG, whenever that may be. See you all next year!

LOL, until you said it, I never truly realized that being a TO is a thankless job, but it is fine by me, as long as the majority of the players had fun^_^ I appreciate you trying to help, and your advice certainly will help if we choose to/are allowed to run any more tournaments in the future (TBH, I WANT TO in the future, but will we be allowed to, and will the GG community ever trust us again?)... However, I would like to explain some things, regarding your post:

1. It was planned for 3:00PM more than a month ago, because after going to many GG tournaments in the past (FR 13 & 14, SB's, 3 EVO's mainly for GG, Revelations and others), GG tournaments usually start on Saturday afternoon or at noon, so because running & finishing singles on Saturday would be impossible, we wanted to start it later in the afternoon on Friday, which was not a good idea... I agree 100% when you say that it should have been at noon or 1:00PM, but we were afraid that no one would show up that early, especially since some people tend to arrive on Friday morning... We also did not expect to exceed a 64-man bracket...

2. We actually did do pre-registration in our thread, which is how we pre-seeded/created the bracket before leaving for EVO. But regardless, it should have been more organized and we should have known that since we had more than 60 people pre-registered, we would have even more after in-person sign-ups...

3. Yes, great idea.

4. You are correct, and so many lessons were learned...Sorry about that. It kind of hurt to DQ people (even though in the thread, it said that if a player failed to show up within 10 minutes of being called for his/her match, then he/she will be DQed), which is why they were given a "loss" first, but I cannot argue with anything that you said-- you know a lot more than I/we do...

5. We do not own a Laptop, but we should have asked someone earlier, that would have made things much easier for everyone...

Again, thank you so much for your advice. It is still sad that some had a negative experience, but TBH, EVO was not all that great for Ky-Sama & I, either. We played about 2 casuals, played like GARBAGE during the team tournament, missed a lot of friends, were starving until Sunday, Got 1-4 hours of sleep, and missed the chance to play UMvC3+much more....But as long as most people had fun (if not, during casuals) and made the most of their EVO, then I am happy...We just went to EVO solely to support GG and to give every player the chance to be part of one of the biggest EVO GG tournaments. I honestly did not believe it would be this hard, but it was our first time, and we promise to do better, next time <3

For me personally, I feel a bit of nostalgia for how the GG community used to be in the past. I'm pretty sure other people likewise are disappointed in the current state of the GG scene in general, and not the tournament in particular.

-- snip--

The first time is always painful. I tried to prepare as TO by "apprenticing" a few tournies, but nothing can really prepare you for taking the lead.

Also, I think you're beating yourselves up a bit too much about how the tournies turned out. You are your own worst critic, and there's always a lot of shoulda-woulda-couldas. But there are two important points to remember when you're self-evaluating your directorship:

1) Very few players want to be TO; it takes time away from mashing practice ;) -- the vast majority will gratefully defer to anyone who has had even basic experience as TO.

2) Worse things happen when the tournament is being run by someone who doesn't even want to.

3) The epitome of fuckups is an incident a few years ago where the assigned tournament director for the official GG tournament went AWOL to bet on [official] SF3:3S matches and at some point just went to his room, completely abandoning the (official) GG tournament. No one else has ever managed to fail this badly before or since (though Triple Threat comes pretty close...).

(oh, did I say two? oh well)

As SpiritJuice pointed out, TO-ship tends to be thankless. It's worth pointing out how the most vocal ones to thank you two are also fellow TOs

Welcome to the ranks of TO-hood. :china:
