Discuss the match up here.

The Good:

- Mu can zone out Jin fairly well.

- Mu's DP is reliable in getting out of Jin pressure. Just be careful if they bait it.

The Bad:

- Jin's j.b may beat out Mu's AA's if he's in range

- Jin has a lot of options after 5b for mix up

- Jin can shut down your zoning once he has 50 meter with Touga Hyojin (632146c)

Any and all general tips for this matchup would be really great..just, absolutely anything anyone who's got more experience with CS2 can give me.

I absolutely can't seem to win against him no matter what I try. It used to be such a fun matchup to me, but now I'm getting destroyed over and over. :[ It's frustrating.

Edit: ...although I have found Habaya to be an incredibly useful anti-Jin tool, although this is just from the matches I've played today.

My gameplan so far vs Jin has been to place steins fullscreen as much as possible. If he sends out a projectile, avoid it, because blocking stops your steins from firing. Cancel steins into DP if you're on the ground, air backdash, j.236D, or something else to stall your fall if you're in the air and think it'll go below you. Be careful of his air approach while doing this, he has huge horizontal range. Don't mash the D button, stay safe and alert, and use charge steins in the mix. If he has 50 heat, never cancel a stein into another stein.

This forces him to take a risk or two, try to punish his approach in the best you can. Jin's blockstrings are full of holes, but be careful when DPing out because it's really easy for him to bait it, and don't mash 2A, or anything for that matter, not worth the risk/reward, the holes aren't usually big enough (unless you IB, but even then it depends). His mixup isn't that rewarding until he gets meter (overhead? what overhead?), so blocking a lot isn't necessarily risky, just don't get impatient and try something stupid. Learn what his cross-up options are and how to deal with them (ex: j.236D doesn't actually cross-up in CS1, don't know about CS2 but don't think it changed).

Anyways, that's my thoughts, if I'm doing it wrong, would someone please correct me? (this is after playing 2 different jins offline)

I play quite a bit with Woki, a very powerful senior member of the scene. He recently switched over from µ to Jin in CS2, and we duked it out for a long while, talking about the matchup.

This is a very, very hard matchup for µ. Here's a good breakdown of Jin's advantages.

  • Normals have similar ranges, but Jin's trade high reward for strong reliability
  • Jin has the ability to easily set/reverse the pace of the match, something that is normally in µ's hands.
  • Jin's Air to ground game straight beats µ's Antiair game, his jumpins are deep and fast with good reward
  • Jin's pressure is clean, safe, with lots of options around 5b
  • Jin can cross people up in the corner after 5b, so be watching

I've got more to add but something came up, will extrapolate more later.

I've played a little against Jin. From how it seems to me, you really have to zone in this match up. I do feel Mu has the range advantage on normals due to 5c.

Once jin starts his pressure on you, you really have to wait for a gap and dp. In terms of anti-airs, mu's 2c was beating jin out but then again, I timed it early when I played. This was against j.b I was assuming and I got a CH. So the AAs probably depend on the range.

The main mix up you have to watch out for is whether Jin will throw you or not. He'll mix it up between throwing and 6b. The answer is DP but he could be baiting it. So just be careful about that.

Thanks very much for the help you guys. :] I'm doing better in this matchup now. It's still definitely an uphill battle, but I'm staring to like the challenge.

I have issues with Jin's pressure too but I've learned a few things that help to break it. Watch out for his 6B. If you're quick you can DP on reaction and knock him off of you. IBing, while not being exactly easy to do, will also let you counter several of his normals like 6C and I think 2C as well but I can't be sure.

I find 5C very useful in this matchup. It out ranges all of Jin's ground normals so fighting him on the ground is recommended. It may just be me, but I find myself losing to him in the air most of the time. So I think sticking to the ground is a much better strategy.

Yeah, his 6B is pretty annoying, although actually I've found you can anti-air him out of it with 6A if you time it right. I've done it quite a few times (albeit on accident) but I'm pretty sure it's possible, but I dunno if it's really optimal. xD I usually, like you said, just DP and try to get him off me.

I'd like to note that Jin's 6b punctures µ's 6a with no problem, as 6a only has head invulnerability while 6b hits head&body. Though seeing as 6b does have a 25f startup, they probably just missed their frame-trap and you're punching him out of his blockstring. If they're that off, you could catch him with any number of normals, 5c is only 1 frame slower than 6a so you should consider that as well.

Jin's range is what kills this matchup. You can outzone him if you can keep him away, but he has tons of options that will CH -> corner rape you from a decent range, so you'll never be able to safely zone him. And once he gets in close to you, your options of getting out are slimmer than usual. His jump cancel mixups during his blockstrings are extremely hard to react to because his air moves usually beat out (or clash with) mu's AA attacks...which baffles me.

Watch how you try to punish his Air moves. Don't try to battle him in the air -- getting CH'd into a combo just isn't worth it, and is far more likely than you doing any real damage to him off a jC. His moves are faster and average more range than yours, and im pretty sure his j.C has just as much range as yours does, with a higher payoff. Arrows of Heaven is good for stuffing his projectiles / air attempts and giving your Steins time to set/fire. Use this move, people; it's great.

No, seriously. Use it. It can take the pressure off, or even flip it if you use it correctly. A few seconds to get in position is wonderful. Just like anything else though, dont get it baited.

I can't find too great a use for 6a here. 2C is much more likely to stop him from jumping in on you. His air moves are wonderful though, so getting 2C baited = Counterhit combo to the dreaded corner.

Need to play more Jin's. But overall, i find that mixing up my zoning and rushing (rushing when he thinks im going to zone, zoning when he thinks im going to rush) works best against him. But if he doesn't fall for it...well, im screwed.

People say Jin has tons of holes in his pressure, but by god if it isn't some of the most dangerous pressure in the game. You gotta stay on your toes against it and pray he screws up too many times. But if you get into the habit of just NOT REACTING and blocking everything, he's going to eventually freeze you / grab you to death.

Oh yeah you have to learn how to how to react. You can't let Jin control the match. If you just block, his pressure never ends. He can keep going as long as you let him.
