After a long hiatus, we’re back, announcing Ultimate Montreal Air Dashers 2017. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RF6H-KNGYpM Presented by : When : July 1st 2017 (Teams on June 30th) Where : Mixed Virtual Arts, 2069 Rue Parthenais, Montreal, QC, Montreal, Québec H2K 3T1 Registration : https://smash.gg/tournament/ultimate-montreal-air-dashers-2017 Please pre-register to give us an idea for numbers, but there will be registration at the door, and all payment done will be at the venue. Main Tournaments : Blazblue Central Fiction (PS4) Guilty Gear XRD Rev 2 (PS4) Side Tournaments : Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax Ignition (PS3) Koihime Enbu (PC) Akatsuki Blitzkampf (PC) Guilty Gear XX Accent Core +R (PS3) Tentative Schedule : Friday : venue opens at 5:00 PM 7 PM BBCF Teams 3v3 9 PM GGXrd Teams 3v3 Saturday : venue opens noon 2 PM Guilty Gear Xrd & DFCI 3:30 PM Koihime Enbu 7 PM BBCF & Akatsuki Blitzkampf 9PM Guilty Gear XX +R Stream : tba Rules : 2/3 rounds, 2/3 matches, loser can switch character, winners/losers/grand finals are 3/5 matches, 70/20/10, no unlimited/gold/etc... the usual rules. +R Macro rules same as Big E tournaments : specify character choice, then ask the other player if macros are ok. Venue fee : Friday 7$, Saturday 13$ Main games : 10$ Side events : 5$ Teams : Free Additional info / FAQ : Alcohol? We’ll try to get a license for the day. This tournament is held in Canada, therefore, if you are not Canadian, you will need a passport to enter the country. Look into ASAP if you are interested, these can take a while to get done. You might want to bring Canadian money, but you can alternatively just go to an ATM over here, or pay with your card. Also, when travelling to another country, your cellphones/smartphones enter roaming and additionnal charges will be applied for anything you do with them. Best idea is to turn off your data and we'll see what we can do about the wifi at the venue. Will I be OK if I don't speak French? Yes, lots of people in Montreal don't even speak French. The event is only one day, why? On weekdays, our venue, MVA, is only open on evenings. The Friday teams are just our regular monthly. All main tournaments will be on Saturday. Will I need to bring a jacket? No it’s actually warm here in the summer. Are you working on a group rate for a hotel? No, but the venue is very close to downtown where there are a lot of hotels and hostels, and it’s easy to get to the venue by public transit. If you're on a tight budget try asking if anyone wants to offer a place to crash, you never know. How is the parking around MVA? You can park on the streets around the venue for free generally, just make sure to read the parking signs. How do I get to MVA from the airport? There's a 24/7 bus that passes often (http://www.stm.info/en/info/networks/bus/shuttle/line-747-east/60997), it goes from the airport to downtown, from which it’s only 3 stops away on the subway. Costs 8$ and generally offers free wifi. When's Marvel? No cab in the back this year, sorry. Anything I need to know about driving in Montreal? Flashing green light means you have priority. You can't turn right on red lights, tie your seatbelt, speed limits are in KM/h so learn the equivalences, beware of potholes, avoid the giant orange cones, and don't drink and drive. Can I help? Sure! We'll need people to run the pools, check the door, and bring equipment. You can also help just by spreading the word so as much people as possible make it to this! Why should I come? http://www.dustloop.com/forums/index.php?/forums/topic/8805-umad-2014-results/ http://www.dustloop.com/forums/index.php?/forums/topic/6444-ultimate-montreal-air-dashers-2013-results-and-shoutouts/ http://www.dustloop.com/forums/index.php?/forums/topic/4860-montreal-air-dashers-apr-14-2012-results-and-shoutouts/ note : the day of this tournament is our national holiday, Canada Day. Many government services will be closed, but restaurants and such should be open. Also, people here aren’t always super patriotic towards Canada, so it’s kind of turned into a sort of moving day for this city.

There are a few tournaments coming up in the next few months that some of us were considering travelling to. To split costs and make the planning easier, I've set up a few threads on Sankishin. If you're interested or have any questions related to these trips, please post there. Although there isn't a thread for it yet because I'm not sure when, we may also head to New York for a TSB at some point in the spring. Dashfest 3 (Hamilton) : http://www.sankishin.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=350 Combo Breaker (Chicago) : http://www.sankishin.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=352 EVO (Las Vegas) : http://www.sankishin.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=351 -
Most discussion has been on discord so I forgot about posting links here, though some of these have been pinned on the mu-12 discord. Feel free to post links to any resources that may be of interest to others here. Match Videos *Japan : https://keeponblaz.in/?char1=mu (I recommend watching Oborn/Abarenja for general stuff and matchups, but each player is interesting as they all have their own tech) *My YT Channel : https://www.youtube.com/user/pochped/videos (matches with local players, and casuals from when travelling to tournaments. Occasional tech videos) Combos *BnBs part 1 : Offense/Setups *Basics Video : Discord https://discord.gg/tSrtJRD Notes You may have noticed there is a great variety of combo routes and setups, and wonder which are the most stable, optimal, or recommended. First of all, it's important to note that, certain combos require different hitconfirms or situations (ex: number of 5c/2c chains required, distance to the opponent, character specific adjustments, and obviously the type of starter), and they often also give you different knockdown situations. If we consider that Mu doesn't have consistent unreactable mixup, the goal in terms of combos would be to have a wide variety at your disposal to put the opponent in as much unknown okizeme situations as possible, while also knowing optimal situational routes. This can't be expected of anyone new to the character, so my suggestion to players who are interested in trying out the character is to either try several combos out until there's one you're comfortable doing, it can even be challenge mode combos, or try these sub-optimal combos : midscreen standing : 2a 2b 5c 6c 63214b (whiff) > dash 5c "meaty" midscreen anti-air : 6a 6b 2d 2c 2d j.c j.b dj.b j.c j.2c land 6c 63214b (63214b whiffs midscreen, but if close enough to corner > 6a 6b 2c j.2c, this also applies to previous combo) corner : anything less than like 5 hits and not too far > 63214c dash 2b 5c 6c 4d 63214c dash 6c 5d 5c 5d 2c j.c j.2c land 5c 6c (optional 214d 6c for a bit more damage if you're comfortable adjusting for different characters/heights) Also, just a general piece of advice for learning this character. Stein gunners will probably cause you more harm than good when you're starting. I strongly suggest learning how to fight opponents without them at first (relying on normals (mostly 5c, 2b, 6a, j.c), movement, and occasional specials), and then finding where the good places to use them are, where they provide solutions for you. Or you can use 5d 214d as a really slow fireball that's good on block.

Hey everyone, this week on Friday, we'll have a special guest, RIKIR, from Ottawa/Waterloo/Brampton. We'll take this opportunity to do a special exhibition, where he has to play everyone in a streamed 2/3 set. However, there will be a bit more to it than that. -First, we'll do a short "What hibiki does and how to fight him" lesson to make sure you aren't caught off guard by some of the more basic stuff he can do. (ex: what his drive does, what he can cancel it into. What his blockstrings might look like, where you can try to escape, what chains into his overhead, what it'll look like. etc.) -Then, everyone will play Rikir in a 2/3 set. Between and after the matches, I'll be offering optional coaching to both players. -Finally, we'll tally the results at the end. If Rikir has more losses than wins, he has to play me in blade arcus at some point during the weekend. We'll start around 8pm on Friday at MVA (venue opens a 6pm) -

NEC is the next major we are planning on travelling to. If you are interested in coming with us, so we can split the costs of the hotel and getting there (car rental, gas), please post your interest in this thread : http://www.sankishin.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=343&p=1763#p1763 Apparently they sold out a block of the hotel rooms already, so if possible we'd like to look into it by the end of this week. Feel free to ask questions in that thread if you are unsure of any details that aren't already mentioned in the event page. There will also be a one day tournament in Ottawa in late November, if you are interested in that, please post your interest in this thread : http://www.sankishin.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=348 -

We are planning a BBCF Swiss Rounds type tournament Friday around 8pm, so we'll need many consoles, and don't forget to bring your own stick/controller. Also for those coming to Canada Cup, we will look at booking hotels and splitting rides for that Friday before the tournament, around 7:30pm. If you are interested in coming but will not be present, please post in the Sankishin Thread with your availabilities and preferences in terms of when you'd leave and return (ex: prefer Friday evening - Sunday evening, or Thursday evening - Monday afternoon). All singles tournaments should be Saturday unless something changes... http://www.sankishin.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=339&sid=a78c0ed3f7c90f9303c0c3a9df5030dd -

I notated BBCF combos from a video a while ago, lost the text since, and only have these screenshots left. There's some delays here and there, didn't know about them when I wrote these down. Surprise demo caught us off guard, just wanted to post something for now. Most of the activity these days is on the Discord, click this link to join the Mu-12 server https://t.co/FwccHxbdIG but relevant discussions and information can still be posted here on dustloop, ESPECIALLY if you don't want it to be lost in a sea of messages.

Speaking of otakuthon, if ever you play fighting games there and meet new players, please let them know about our group and events. We don't have many chances to reach out to other people, and this is one of the better opportunities. Also because our group wasn't on enough various websites and social media platforms, we now have a Discord : https://discord.gg/GWTcQSU -

Meetup Friday this week at MVA. Work might be busy, can't make promises if I'll arrive early enough to run a tournament (or have the energy), so I won't make any. Bring consoles and sticks/controllers, you guys know the deal. Made a thread for on Sankishin, discuss Canada Cup planning there : http://www.sankishin.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=339 -

Evo was fun, we somehow placed good in side games: Blade Arcus : I got 5th Koihime : Level5 got 5th BBCPEX : Brice won, I got 7th DFCI : Level5 got 5th GGXXAC+R : Brice got 5th In GGXrd, only Brice and Fan made it out of their pools. Anyway, with the new balance patch and characters for Xrd, you guys were probably looking forward to a meetup. MVA will be open Friday for a meetup, but I won't be there. Same schedule as always, feel free to run a tournament if any of you want one. -

Planned weekly meetup is Friday at MVA. Place opens at 6pm, we'll run a Revelator tournament around 8pm. Not sure about format yet, or whether or not we'll run anything else. If we have enough setups maybe we'll do Swiss Rounds again? Last Friday before EVO! Also, results from the monthly. I'll work on the uploads tonight. Monthly Tournament #2 @ MVA READ THIS FIRST : Going to try to run swiss rounds for guilty gear. We'll need 1 setup per 4 people rounded up, if not we'll do double elimination. Swiss rounds is a common format for card game tournaments, it lets everyone play until the end, google it if you're curious as to how it works. Saturday July 2nd 2069 Parthenais, Montreal, QC https://www.facebook.com/MixedVirtualArts/ (near Frontenac Metro, green line) Venue : 10$ (Saturday price) All tournaments will be free to enter, format will vary depending on the game, number of entrants, consoles with the game, and T.O. exhaustion levels. Schedule : 2:00pm Venue opens 3:00pm GGXrd Revelator : Swiss Rounds 7:00pm BBCPEX 8:00pm Koihime Enbu ?? DFCI ?? (If there is interest we can run it as well, I am not sure when to fit it in this, so please post a comment, and specify if your availability is limited) Prizes : Since the tournaments are free to enter, I'll be providing a 1$ pot bonus to each tournament for each entrant that tournament gets. Winner takes all. Extra Prizes : The winner of the Blazblue tournament will once again be allowed to rename our Granblue Guild. I reserve the right to veto the name. There might also be extra prizes for the other games, but they are TBD. Stream should be twitch.tv/p0chp , the venue has a nice set up with a projector too, so hopefully after testing it last week everything will work. This venue has monitors, so we'll need people to bring consoles. Besides that, please bring your own controllers/sticks. If there are not enough consoles for a certain game, it may be switched to single elimination (aka bring revelator setups please). The venue also offers a monthly membership for 40$, and soft drinks for 1$. If you're interested in coming from out of town, let us know, maybe someone can offer a place to stay.
