I think one of the problems is actually choosing what content to put on the front page. I know a lot of people have been has been saying "put up more videos" but then the question is how exactly would you choose one from another?

And yea one of the really big issues is definitely how many people are willing to do the projects, keep up with it, and making sure it happens.

I think there are a good number of people who are willing to help. However, I think some people are waiting for input/being told what to do, avoiding stepping on the toes of better players than them, or just wondering if it's even worth the large amount of effort. This first push is going to be the hardest but it'll be the eye-opener the community needs.

Videos for majors, I guess. We could put up important combo videos... But that is more important for the character subforums than the general site. We don't have a large casual community like SRK... So there is no huge need to do mindless PR stuff unless you want to go that direction.

There's a good number of excellent matches done online or at non-major events, so that can be shown off. Also, we have a big casual community, that's why we're in half the trouble we're in with the overall lack of serious players. At this point, having gossip articles to pull in people to also browse over the more serious articles could help. Some players just need a nudge or a spark of inspiration. If you believe that I am a bit misguided in my reasoning, then let me know as you've definitely been more involved in the community in this regard.

It's probably just some bias from how my own scene is. We either have people who play or don't play and the people who play are actively interested in the game. PR stuff geared for casuals wouldn't really appeal to them (though it is stuff we do when we want to boost tournament numbers). I'm not really sure how other scenes are so I can't comment on that.

Plus... I believe it was discussed in the staff forum that DL is geared for people who actually want to play the game and not spectators. I actually think that there being too much stuff geared for spectators on SRK is what originally caused the discussion on SRK and birthed this thread. :psyduck:

I would personally prefer it if we keep DL gameplay focused, but that might just be me. While I have kind of mixed feelings on the front page becoming a tutorial 101 (as I believe that if you want to learn that stuff, you should go to the proper areas like Beginner Mode and Character Subforums), video tutorials would be helpful for people who can't really get it or need a visual example before they can understand something.

I am in favor of Blazblue as a game and local communities overall getting exposure so that people know there are people who play this game (and there might be people nearby them so they should go play too). But there's lots of different ways we can approach this kind of thing.

TLDR; No on gossip articles. Okay on tutorial stuff (especially if someone experienced wanted to make a video/video series explaining gameplay mechanics, etc) as long as it's not going overboard. Plus points on- Go to a goddamn tournament. :V

Is the project scene interviews eventually going to be put into an article once the videos are in? That'd be pretty interesting.

For me it's more of, "am I being biased choosing this over another?" when it comes to featuring a video on the front page if we were to go that route.

I can very easily see videos that have a lot of good matches since I help upload them to YT and make an article but how would I go about it? By player? By how entertained I was? It's all very subjective and I'd rather not clutter up the front page with only my personal opinion of what I thought was good (and then worst case scenario it actually wasn't that good lol). This goes the same for small events and online matches not from Japan.

For the reasons above, I do think that we should just stick to video results from majors and minors (for example, we could post up video results of NCI coming up in a few weeks). That way we won't have too many videos of- wat is this for? :v:

And to answer your question- yes. Once I have the recordings (in whatever form they come in) and the transcripts, I'll publish them for the front page.

you dont have to be biased

you can just be like "a lot of good players showed up to this tournament"

"heres an sbo qualifier featuing x"

example, a-cho just had a BIG 3on tourney this past weekend with a ton of famous players - that should def go front page

Don't worry, I read the entire thing. Just wanted a snipping point. :kitty:

I agree on all of them, just thinking of the people we may be appealing to. However, definitely not up for anything that would shift DL far away from its' emphasis on gameplay. Finally, thank you for your support on reducing the numbers of Team NAH.

Also, I would try to set-up an interview for the players down here and will do it soon, but do you have a list of questions and/or format for this? Also, SOMEONE who shall no be named needs to get their butt over here to Tampa to play.

I just feel that a lot of amazing matches are lost and strategies unknown because of the limited "official" support for online play. This is mostly because the netplay warriors don't go to a damn tournament or don't know where to go.

But since we are trying to propel those people to show their worth at tournaments, making the whole aspect of tournament play as hype as possible is much more important. It's a dependable source of good footage and info, so I see where you guys are coming from and agree for the most part.

Sweet on the interviews. Anything that can get people's attention to their scene is definitely be helpful.

I know I have some tougeki qualifiers that I uploaded and Jourdal I think got some of them... would anyone mind an article on those even though they're months old?

And got'cha. I know that there are a lot of good matches that I see but it's usually just a few players within the whole event (depending on where it is; some have consistently good players no matter what, others it greatly depends) so then I feel that it would just be featuring notable players than the event. That is the main reason why I'm hesitant on just making articles on good matches since it's such a broad area that could potentially just focus on certain players but I agree on articles for the larger tournaments and whatnot.

EDIT:

Also, SOMEONE who shall no be named needs to get their butt over here to Tampa to play.

I'm trying dammit. DON'T RUSH ME (╯‵Д′)╯彡┻━┻

There's a sticky for it in BB General. :3 You should check it out.

Also, I have nothing against netplay. But it would help the community as a whole if those people would show up official venues as those are the ones that get attention. Getting them more interested in checking out their local communities or starting their own is in my opinion a better direction to push in.

pktazn- I think those replays would be helpful. I actually haven't watched any of them myself. :psyduck: You should stick them in a playlist (or playlists) and then post them up on the front page with a short blurb (mentioning what block, etc) when you have time.

Posted (edited)

Yea I was thinking of organizing it by block. Probably one big article with a link to the playlist for the block since it'd probably clutter up the front page having one for each. I'll get to work on it as soon as possible and if Irene comes by and says hello, I'll definitely have time haha.

EDIT: What about videos for GG in general? Should events like Mikado go up on the front page? I specify them because those are the videos I usually see from the GG uploaders on YT and I know there's still interest in the game.

What are you going on about? I TOTALLY didn't mean you at all. :kitty:

1) I feel incredibly stupid now. Excuse me while I read that.

2) Yes, definitely agree with pushing people towards tournaments. Hopefully getting the scenes known and the people interested will help.

Well, the game needs to be PLAYED at tournaments first. You know how much snide behavior I get when I'd say I'd play BB in tournament, even locally?

Then I went to first one. Won my first two matches while cold. People did nothing but bitch that the game sucked. I made three people walk off, and the others went to go play MAHVEL BABY and Ken Fighter.

Half the problem is the lack of social skills among players. The other half is that people won't stop bitching about the game.

Do you even play CS2 or just CT? Secondly, did you just hand them the stick and beat them or did you try to explain mechanics and such while playing sub-optimally/with another character?

So as I was writing up the draft for the SBO Qualifier videos article I was wondering should I write out some of the players that are in the qualifier? I don't have all the names for everyone but I know some of the more popular players do show up.

Tourney I went to ended up being CT because DERP WE BROUGHT THE WRONG GAME (Sweet! Advantage: Me!), but the guy pretty much told me no one would play BlazBlue in any form around here because it's trash. I heard similar comments from people hanging out at tourney.

I came ready to play CS (CS1 at the time), actually. I was worried someone I know would show up and Beat me with his hakumen, or worse, someone else I know that would mirror my Litchi and corner rape me to death because he's just a vet and I'm not.

Next year, either game - I've gotten a lot better and I'm going to get much farther. I'm going to finals unless the vets I know decide to play. I am NOT losing to fucking Jin like I did so closely last time. No.

Well, I beat my first match pretty well using Litchi and someone said to his friend "Don't you ever get that good with Litchi." (Feels good!), and three people that were hanging out and signed up left - both people I played in the next two matches got to their position by Default.

Seriously - people make playing the game and participating inhospitable and frustrating right now. Better attitudes and social skills are needed.

Players just need to be a bit more open-minded.

Also, beating down others like they're trash isn't exactly the best idea ever. Go easy on them, or so I would say if they did not have their stupid "DONTCHU GO EASY ON ME NOW, YO" pride.

Meh...

this is not how people learn games.someone could feel offended if they felt that their foe had to go easy on them. it'd be better to explain in between matches what's going on, or even go into training and show a few things, like how to use the character. lf you cant show them how their character works, at least show them what yours can do, so they'll at least be more prepared. going easy just makes everyone worse. most people are generally open to help if they see that you're more knowledgeable or better.
