Guymam Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 (edited) I'm going to start assigning homework to those of you who are ranks 1 and 2 lol. GODAMMIT I WAS THREE UNTIL ALL MY TROUBLES HIT ME. Actually, rewatching the footage of the stream made me realize that you can't hear the commentary. Also, one person can be kind of boring. I don't know though. Edited September 22, 2011 by Guymam
Xie Posted September 26, 2011 Author Posted September 26, 2011 (edited) Just reminder that the next Danisen session is this Sunday! It is from 2pm to 7pm this time around, as I have work the next day. Also, after we finish cleaning up, we're going to have an Olive Garden battle. Unlimited pasta dueling. Whatever you want to call it. Edited September 26, 2011 by Xie
Xie Posted September 26, 2011 Author Posted September 26, 2011 (edited) Double Post - Rules updated! Because of our current player numbers, I've updated the ruleset (with an experimental ruleset) to accomodate it. Notably, the rules for Rank 5 and 6 have changed greatly. Aim to become THE KING OF KINGS. Rank 5 - Strong -Due to the current player cap, Rank 5 is now a special Rank -Rank 5 requires a player to reach +5 to reach Rank 6, getting demoted to Rank 4 still only requires a -3 Rank 6 - The King of Kings -Only one person can become Rank 6 at a time, THE KING OF KINGS -The player who is Rank 6 cannot Gain points, for example, if he wins at -4, he will stay at -4 -Similarly, losing to a Rank 6 player does not cause you to lose points (unless you are also Rank 6) -All wins will instead be counted as W's. They will be tallied up in a cumulative score. The Gauntlet of Kings -If there are two Kings at the same time there will be a special format to eliminate one of them -Each Rank 6 player will be forced to play 5 matches in a row, starting with the newest Rank 6 player -Participants of the gauntlet can be ANY RANK which basically means that the participants can counterpick -This will continue until one of the Rank 6 players is demoted Edited September 26, 2011 by Xie
WanderingWolf Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 Hi Xie. A friend of mind told me about this and I was planning on coming this Sunday but then found out you changed the time. I work and can get out at as early as 5PM then head straight there but I'd probably get there at around 5:30-6 so my friend told me not to bother to come this time around. He also told me you don't usually do it Sundays. Can you give me the times these gatherings usually happen so I can try working my schedule around to make it to these? Also I checked your twitch.tv channel and looked a some of the past broadcasts. I noticed the video quality is something that could be better and also the audio balance between commentary and game sound. I've been casting in justin.tv (twitch.tv now for the gaming directory) for about two years now. So if you ever need any help with broadcasting, I am very familiar with it and would be glad to help.
Xie Posted September 27, 2011 Author Posted September 27, 2011 Heading over around 5-6 might not be worth it this time around.. As for future gatherings, I'm looking at doing it on 10/15 (Saturday). I'm aiming for a Bi-weekly schedule on Saturdays, but I tend to muck it up since I have stuff to do. As for time, probably 2-8pm will be the general time we start and end the Danisen. Regarding the stream, I happened to stay up until 4am the night before watching SBO so I was just like "fuck it" towards the stream and overlays. I'll work on it this time and actually take the time to test it out.
Wild Wallice Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 I originally said I couldn't make it but seeing that its going to end at 7 makes it doable for me. I'll show up and bring my setup.
flipid Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 I think I'll be there today, but I have to leave around 5:30.
Shazam Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 Wasn't able to make it to this one afterall, well it looks like i'll be seeing you all on Oct. 15th then! Hope you have a blast today and good luck.
Wild Wallice Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Turned out pretty good, we got more people than we had the first time. If we all want to have dinner together next time though, I think we should call the Olive Garden way in advance instead of right before the session ends. ggs all.
Xie Posted October 3, 2011 Author Posted October 3, 2011 Ggs to everyone who came today. Also, I actually did call the Olive Garden, they don't do call ahead seating or reservations lol.
WanderingWolf Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 (edited) I had a lot of fun and was glad I went. Hope I see everyone again there next time. Only complaint on the amount of setups. The Rank 1 line got pretty long. Also I was really caught off guard on a change of delay input. I've always been playing games on a Samsung monitor. I felt the difference and it was really blatant. Does this mean I should get a new monitor? This is the monitor I have now. I planned on getting a dual monitor setup for my room anyway so I don't mind getting another, I just need to know which one to get. Another note, the cast looked a lot better in my opinion. Maybe we should have two mics next time to have two commentators. Edited October 3, 2011 by WanderingWolf
Raptor Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Bummer I couldn't show up to this again, hopefully you guys had fun. I'm still not completely sure how the danisen system works, but will it cause too much trouble if I show up say 2 to 3 hours after starting time? Like how showing up to tournaments late can mess up the brackets. My new schedule has me leaving school at 2PM at best and I'm 1 hour away from Cerritos.
glod Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 (edited) Next time I will be bringing my setup, so hopefully that will help with the Rank 1 lines. Assuming James has space for another setup haha. Great games even though I didnt leave rank 1, always nice to play with a bunch of people and get experience vs. a lot of characters. And thanks to James for hosting Edit: I wont actually be able to make it to the next one due to a test for one of my classes. Damn. Edited October 3, 2011 by glod
drkomg Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 @Wanderingwolf Getting a new monitor may not solve your problem. I think most CRT (tube tvs that project light at you) are lagless. No pretty looking blazblue. But, to get use to timing, you can cheap out and just play blazblue on a CRT TV. If you're getting a monitor, check out shoryuken regarding HDTV lag. Most of the monitors at the danisen are probably ASUS VH260H with 2ms-6ms input lag.
WanderingWolf Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 A friend of mine said the same thing about playing on an old tv. But i guess i'll get the asus236h.
Xie Posted October 3, 2011 Author Posted October 3, 2011 Useful threads on SRK. http://shoryuken.com/forum/index.php?threads/sub-1-frame-hdtv-monitor-input-lag-database.145141/
WanderingWolf Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Very useful thread, thanks. I feel like an odd man out for playing with a weird monitor this whole time. Also, I work at Fry's so if needed I might be able to get discounts on tables, chairs, monitors and all that good stuff.
Tari Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Fry's sells tables and chairs? I never knew this. I always just go look at electronics there. Are they reasonably priced (ie: cheap)?
Xie Posted October 3, 2011 Author Posted October 3, 2011 Thread updated with standings, info, etc. We may need to change the format up a little bit to include a Rank 7 the make the average rank into rank 4 instead of rank 3. Questions - Showing up late - You can show up as late as you want, just realize we have a strict cutoff time. So if you show up an hour before we're ending, that's your choice, just realize whether or not it was worth the time and effort to come. Dual mic - I don't mind having a dual mic setup, I just don't have dual mics. Frankly, don't have money to buy another one right now, so unless you guys want to get a fund going, it won't be happening any time soon. Next on the buy list is probably an extension cord to increase the number of setups that we can have in the garage.
WanderingWolf Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Chair Prices - I know we sell a 4 pack from Merax for 69.99. I can get $17 off of that. Discounts here are really random. It's not a percentage. Dual Mic - Aren't we poverty? I can just bring my sennheiser mic. Just whoever uses it has to be nice to it, its a nice mic. I'd probably say more chairs over buying another mic.
Xie Posted October 4, 2011 Author Posted October 4, 2011 Regarding Expansion (more setups) - The only other remaining power ports are on my ceiling, so we need to get some extension cords long enough to ensure that there isn't a drag from that spot to the targeted switch. Otherwise there might be some hazards with all those people in one area. I could technically move the other car out of it's spot and create like a LOW LEVEL PIT for the 1-2 area, which might alleviate the amount of time it takes to find a match on the low level stations. Chair Prices - A JEFF chair at IKEA is 9.99 with tax. It beats out that price from Fry's, but if it goes any lower it may be a viable choice. Regarding Dual Mics and Poverty - If you're down to bring a mic, I will happily use it and incorporate it into my setup. Ideally, it is a Dynamic one because a Condenser will not work well in our high noise environment. If you're not sure, just post the model # to me and I'll look it up. And yes, I am broke, why do you think I still live with my parents. : | Edit: Also, I'd like to buy some kind of apparatus to block out the sun from 4-6pm. If anyone knows any mad scientists, this might be helpful.

It's 100 bucks but we had 18 or so people there sunday, if everyone chips in 5 or 10 bucks that's covered. I wouldnt mind chipping in for it and some extra chairs.
