After playing this game and TvC(my first two 2-D fighting games), I realized that I always lose my cool and begin mashing buttons. Ive never had this problem with 3D games so its weird. Does anyone else do this or is it just me?

Its something I cant help though since 2-D games seem more fast-paced than 3-D ones and I lose my focus. Is there any advice to make me not button-mash?

When you lose focus, block...

What about Robo-Ky/Order Sol? Are they as easy to use as Sol/Ky and are they at least in the upper half of the tier list?

Robo-Ky has a weird way of managing tension, other than that he can be played pretty basic to great effect. You should watch Dogura if you want to see it happen:P

Order Sol is just hard, there's too much factoring in in practice. It has taken the Japanese 4 years or so before Order Sol got to a position where he could actually anchor a team. The character is fun nonetheless though.

It's Guilty Gear, dude. Everyone has at least a few hard combos, lol. But if you learn Slayer, you'll have an easy time beating people. You can learn basic mixups in a few minutes and be well on your way to becoming the best player on your block. :)

Meh, Slayer is good until you start to figure out how to play against him. This is also why has dropped from S+ to B over the years.

Speaking as an absolute newb to this series (I bought AC+ two weeks ago and it's my first experience with GG), I find Ky to be a good practice character. I haven't given all the characters a try yet, but Ky's moves are all easy to perform and he has some easy chains that lend themselves to experimentation. I've spent hours in Training alone just trying out combos with him, and while I'm still terrible at this game, I can at least consistently beat the CPU in Normal now, compared to being beaten by it on Easy during my first week.

I think the hardest basic thing for me is air combos. No matter how many times I Dust or use a regular launcher, I have incredible trouble following up with a decent air combo. The best I've ever done with Ky is a 9-hitter, and it was insanely hard to do it again. I'm not even going to touch things like FRC and Instant Blocks until I've gotten a grasp over the basics. I figure once I get the timing down for the many, many chains for many characters and can do them from muscle memory alone, I can start focusing on the other stuff.
