Hi guys been lurking around dustloop for quite a long time as I'm a BB fan. I just got back into it after about 6-8 months. I've been looking for some players in the UK and finding this thread is the best thing that could happen to me lol. I've always played fighting games (BB, P4A) online so if this could lead to some offline matches that'd be awesome.

My skill level atm isn't that high but I'm back into practice mode and have every intentions to get better by when CP comes out. I'm going to pre-order BBCP, for that matter I would like to know if play-asia is the way to go.

My PSN is the same as my username here: Lensta. I might some people here but feel free to add me if you guys are still playing BB CSE/P4A. Those are pretty much the only fighting games I play.

Oh and I'm based in South London (Croydon).

Heat of Gaming, every Wednesday. BlazBlue and Persona 4. Plenty of other games too

Hi...apologies -- not sure if i should post it here but ima go ahead anyway...could anyone direct me to some contacts around Paris or Lille (France)? I'm visiting the area for 5 days starting today and I was hoping to get with some people for some BB or GG goodness. Thanks in advance.

In Paris, there's two places to play BB, Seo mentionned Arcade Street already, the other one is the Versus Dojo (Facebook page) which is located in the basement of "Square Games", they have consoles in HD cabinets. Unlike Arcade Street were you play per play, there you pay a fee for the day, it's pretty cheap, last time i went it was 3€, the downside is that it closes at 7:30pm, Arcade Street closes at 10pm.

Also if you want to go to either one of these to play BB, you should post a message on the French BB forums, there are dedicated threads for gatherings in the two places, here's the links :

- Arcade Street

- Versus Dojo

What a day yesterday was. All this fighting has made me tired, and I missed most of what happened in the threads =(

DL has become such a sad place.

Anyone who was quick enough to read a recently deleted thread will understand.

so sad

such cry

I put effort into that thread but they decided to just get rid of it I guess. :/

Good thing I saved it but man I don't even know, apparently nobody is allowed to read it.

Trust me, I'm glad anybody got to read it at all, at least the fact it got deleted proves what I was trying to say along with it, too bad it only lasted 10-15 minutes.

I deleted that thread so I could actually read it before shit spiraled out of control again.

Oh that's something I guess, I feared for far worse tbh, but you could have at least let me know, it's a bit of a bummer to just have it vanish after putting the effort in. Cheers.

I've got too much shit to deal with all of a sudden, sending you a notice slipped my mind.

I'm not going to undelete the thread. I'm happy to offer a reply of sorts, either here or in PM, your choice.

Posted (edited)

I'd prefer here as it would be out in the open, and bring things to light, which was the purpose of the thread in the first place.

EDIT: If you want to discuss or have me elaborate on anything from the original thread I'm more than happy to reply to that in a PM as well but an actual open reply about the subject itself would be preferred.

Here you go, then.

However, the attempts to iron them out has seriously hurt the website and the potential growth of the website and the community it represents.

Just a quick thing here, apparently every single thing Dustloop does causes this issue. While I'm sure you believed that this would be shocking information, it isn't even slightly.

What I came to Dustloop to find was a general gameplay forum with warnings of bans, infractions and whatever else plastered all over it. This was seriously off-putting of the site and the community.

Not sure if one thread per board and a post every ~100 pages or so qualifies as "plastered," but I get what you're going for here. What's really amazing is that despite all the warnings, the begging, the pleading; people still don't pay them any mind. Still get people posting in the all-caps news thread like it isn't even a thing. Still get people posting *feeds you a cookie* in the CP discussion thread.

I quickly found out from them and my own personal viewings of Dustloop as to what it had become. There was a severe lack of actual community from my viewing before going to the UK/EU thread, everybody here seems a stranger to one another unless you pry into their twitter accounts etc.

We're not a community. That's simple fact. The threads in Match Finder are communities. Groups are communities. Netplay's a community. Dustloop is a forum.

From my understanding, off-topic discussion, something that was pretty common before I left originally, was cracked down upon as it clutters up areas of the forum and makes it harder for new players to find information.

New and old players alike, actually. I received a steady stream of complaints regarding the CP general discussion thread recently; 100s of off-topic, irrelevant posts every time new info came to light. I let the thread sit for a day - a day - after the Kokonoe reveal. 321 posts were deleted when I came back. Posts that had no bearing on Kokonoe, CP, anything.

Why the fuck should I cater to that instead of the people trying to make proper use of threads?

You started around '06-'07. That's right around when bullshit hit its peak iirc. I was mostly in Zepp Museum at the time, so I didn't pay much attention. But players who were around for info did. Most of them just up and left. Dustloop became a joke. Still is, depending on who you ask. Nobody bothers anymore.

You can't find info now because the people that have it won't come here to share it. They get annoyed with people who question them, post stupid shit, clutter up everything... it's not worth their time. Or they have info and are willing to post, but see the empty boards and wonder if it's worth the effort, or doubt themselves and think the info might be wrong, or who knows what.

Of course, letting people post stupid shit however they like won't solve these problems.

The next thing I'd like to tackle in this post is the attitude of the staff in general. Of course, I was around for the incidents that happened yesterday, I saw the whole thing. To be quite honest, the most shocking thing is the mod backlash. Contributive members of the past, no matter how little being told to "use other websites" and such. This in itself is a joke, and should not be the goal of a website trying to create a community.

Again, we're not a community, and we don't strive to be. If you're looking for a community, you really are better off going elsewhere, or joining one of the smaller communities that exist within Dustloop. But looking for community in a thread about news for a new game isn't going to get you anywhere - and defining community as "a place where people post off-topic" isn't such a great idea, either.

No matter what happened yesterday, the mods putting it off, ignoring the fact that there was clear backlash towards the way this site is going is hard to miss. The mods cuss and act unprofessional in threads. "Breaking these rules will either result in an infraction, tempban, or permanent ban, depending on how bad the offense is, past offenses, or the mood that the mods feel. Seriously, don't fuck with us on this." As a quote from the Q&A thread, this is not any encouragement to post a question, in fact it's quite the opposite, and this is not the only example of this, it's pretty much everywhere on the site.

Hint: we're not professional. We're volunteers. We play fighting games. We're sick of the stupid bullshit we've had to put up with for the past decade.

[Chubaki bullshit]

I don't care about Chubaki. I'm glad the thread's gone/not gone/whatever the fuck it is. The overreaction was legendary.

What I've really got to say after all of this is I think the site should try and make the forum more community based, and less factual.

No.

Like people getting butthurt over an asinine thread getting closed or begging to be allowed to post stupid off-topic bullshit.

Like having to explain myself for the umpteenth time even while things have been made pretty clear.

Like?

Like the things he just explained in his post; people ignoring the rules, posting off-topic things in threads dedicated to information, that kinda thing. Obviously I haven't been around for the past decade so I can't give you specifics as far as that's concerned, but the point I believe he's making is that the Dustloop staff are tired of people derailing the intentions of the site, intentionally or otherwise.

What exactly do you want out of this whole thing anyway? Like, was there some end goal you envisaged when you started this that's not been fulfilled or something? Because, to be fair, Circ has taken time out that he didn't have to to address the concerns you're having with the site and he's been perfectly reasonable about the whole thing too. Throwing that back in his face with a comment like that seems pretty out of line, in my opinion.

So again, if you believe this has "culminated in a whole lot of nothing", what did you expect it to sum up to?

Posted

Not really, I've just been watching this thing as it progressed and, I was kind of hoping that I'd find the reason why Dustloop went from a lovely, vibrant exciting forum to a message board with about as much personality as cardboard. But after all of this I've realised it must have just been me.

The entire forum can be friendly and fun-loving if you want it to be. Just keep the important threads on-topic for fuck's sake.
