I still want to come down there, but looking at the times the trains leave...it's a major pain in the ass.

If I come on Wednesdays the earliest train leaves early in the morning, meaning I would have to find a place to stay (and somehow wake up early...oh boy). Besides it's probably not worth the money (150-ish euro) just to stay at HoG for a few hours.

If I come on saturday/sunday for UC I can take a train around 8PM on sunday but then I'll be dropped off at 1AM in Belgium while the next train doesn't come until 6AM...meaning I'm screwed there as well.

Freaking retarded, seriously. Why can't we have Japan's public transport system?

EDIT: All the above is for when I have to go back to Holland, not actually getting to London; that's the easy part.

Just to let you know, you can stay overnight at HoG on some (if not most) nights, but I advise taking a sleeping bag or alot of energy drinks because your going to need one or the other :D

Yuki, if you can, please stick around and chat GG with us, not just for the selfish reasons of making this part of the site look good and for attracting attention but also because it isn't dying down (at least on this part) and I will actively try to get a few more people chatting here, so stick around please.

As far as the rest of you guys go (that play BB or AH or P4A or MB), what would help you get into GG or are you guys just not bothered with the game? Is there anything that would make you bothered? I'm just wanting to find out what might be effective ways of getting more people to look at the game positively.

For those out in the northern part of our lovely Britain

I'mma leave this here

http://www.facebook.com/events/573525099345787/

The link is a little outdated but check back in on it from time to time, Scotland is in the middle of a good bunch of Persona Ranbats leading up to a fairly big tournament and we are always hoping for new blood to come and enter :)

Next Ranbat is at the Old bank bar, Dundee on the 10th of June..so yeah.....stuff :3

I have got nothing against GG, its a very fun game :)

..but I honestly just prefer BB or Persona over it, I dunno maybe its the steeper learning curve in general for the game, its just I've have a lack of motivation to play it

No-one plays it in my local scene and the online is pretty poor :(

regardless I'm fully willing to get it another chance :) maybe after we get +R or the hype for the "OMG Persona is finally in Europe" dies down a bit, I might pick up my Ky again :)

I'll probably still use this place for GG's messages, mine can be too long and detailed to fit into an instant message client lol.

Also, speaking of GG's: That memory unit arrived today, meaning I am now available for both Persona and, once again, BB (and AH3 if you play that). If anybody wants some matches, then I'd quite likely accept an invitation.

I won't say I'm not bothered with GG. I do enjoy it but I do prefer BB, I think my biggest problem with GG is not with the game itself but that I've got nobody else to play the game with really. Which leads me to feel less inclined to play it and spend time with the game.

I don't have the money to buy +R currently but I'd love to get it and play the game some more. I think I'd be happier with the PS3 controller as well as I've got GGXXAC+ on Wii (5 different controllers for that so I'm not that used to using 1 controller) and +R would open up the ability to play with other people.

I think GG is a really fun game though, I like the characters, music and especially the sound effects. Story interests me as well but I just don't feel like playing it as I don't have anyone else to play it with primarily. I also don't think that people look at the game negatively, I think that there are just obstacles that prevent players from wanting to spend more time with GG.

(Sorry if this makes no sense, I'm tired and my eyes are hurting from starting at this laptop screen for ages, I want the main computer back)

I like playing as Sol, Dizzy and Millia mainly but I would also like to play as close enough everyone else in that game xD

GG suffers because of the Netcode primarily. Maybe that and the fact it's not HD? Seems like a silly reason, but I reckon that plays a big part.

I want to consider myself a strong part of this community. So leaving Dustloop in hindsight was a stupid thing to say, I'll reserve myself for this thread at least. Feel free to chat GG, I love the game. I just suck ass at it right now.

Thanks Yuki, nice to know you are sticking around and let us know when you have the chance to come down to heart of gaming, I'd love to get some games in.

Gamester - Essentially, you don't have enough people to play against to keep your interest high and I'm sure the net code isn't helping, not saying it is bad but it isn't optimal or as good as BB's, would you say that was a fair summary? Where abouts in England do you live? You might live near to a small pocket of players, I know some in Manchester and a person in Wales that can get ahold of a few other players so maybe we can help in that way.

Just out of curiosity, if you saw a growth in gg being played somewhere that wasn't where you live (I.E. France, America or just another part of the UK) would that make you want to play more? Genuine question, I don't know if people are really effected by things like that.

Kujikawa - where abouts are you based in the UK, maybe we can direct you to a small pocket of players? Your interested in playing so all we need to get you is some people to play against really.

InWithTheAshes - Is there a simplified version of why you don't play?

If it's too painful to go over, don't worry, GG can be......emotional :P

Fistmaster049 - So you like the game but you have no drive to play it, is that about right? Or is it just that you have more drive to play BB or Persona? What, in your opinion do BB and P4A have over GG? This could be as simple as character design or music preferences, I'm not judging here at all, I'm just trying to see what the most common issues are so that I can try and solve them.

It seems to me at least, that most of you like the game, it's just that you don't have the competition to play against in your area. It's kind of a two fold problem, if there aren't people playing the game (such as joe average) then the perception is that there is no one playing it, potential players that like the game then don't continue playing because there is no one (visable) to play against. Also, without a neutral location to meet with other players you can't really build a player base.

I guess the question I need to ask is then, how do you play against your regular BB or P4A competition (House sessions? Online?) and if there was more visable competition (say from HoG streams or any other for that matter), would you guys be more tempted to pick up the game again and show it to your BB sparing partners? If not, what would get you to do that?

Thanks to anyone that has the time to read through that and respond :D

Lolwut?

I do play Guilty, it's probably my main game. I certainly intend it to be.

As for competition, I have tried to get within contact with both a guy from Liverpool and the one other Mancunian I have seen posting on this site (although the latter hasn't logged in since one day before I delivered my message).

Good to hear you are around liverpool/manchester, Manchester had quite a few older players there that I may be able to get in contact with. There is also a guy from London that goes to uni up near there (he's not too far away essentially) called Tenrai and I've nagged him to join up here (I think he actually joined today) so there will be a few people you can play against if you want me to get in contact with them for you?

I should also add that there is a Guilty Gear UK group on Facebook that these guys are a part of so next time you're on Facebook, join yourself up and ask for the Manchunians and they might well respond.

If you are in London, it would be good to see you at the Guilty Gear days at HoG or the burst days (if you are more of a BB player). The BB guys are all really nice so I can't see you not enjoying yourself. I'm going to get myself down to HoG a bit more regularly now so I'll try to post up when I'm coming more frequently so you know when you can get some good matches in.

Had a small Netplay P4A Tournament today. Was kinda good. If I can step up my TO skills I may branch out 8-)

Oh shit speak of the devil :D had no idea there was a forum for uk players on this site till guerrilla tactics told me personally so i never made an account till today. Should be getting xbox live soon so il bring myself in with a couple of matches against you guys as i've only just started out as well. The Manchester scene actually has some sick players but i havent seen them do anything for GG in a while unfortunately. Ash if you are free next weekend u should come down next Saturday to Edgehill Uni in Ormskirk as im hosting the final session before i head back to london. We have a small scene here that mainly focus on sf and kof and recently my only sparring partner for GG graduated and left so ive been starved for matches, so i would be happy to give you the GG's on GG you have been searching for :D

Hah. Hahahahahah.

Well, you see, they would be GG's, but... Argh. I'm not entirely sure how to word this without seeming to be salty about losing (well, that's partly it, but not due towards it being the act of losing) or having much ill will to anybody here. However, it's really getting pretty aggravating.

I acknowledge that losing is a part of fighting games and that it's doubtful there will be a day where I win every match, even against only specific groups of players. But honestly, I have been consecutively steamrolled, within the same games, by the same people, for months on end. Actually, scratch "same people": There was a guy who consistently, dependently just ran/jumped back fullscreen, spammed fans and 1/2/3D, ended pressure strings with fucking 236D, and DP'd/bursted almost all the times I got in. If I did manage to actually start some pressure/get a significant hit, I'd just fuck up the confirm, drop the combo/do deliriously ineffective things during pressure, and leave him free (or me free?) to do whatever he wants. I lost. Repeatedly. To somebody who did not know the meaning of the term "mixup". This has happened in BB, and even Guilty, where there's generally almost no online competition unless you ask for the players to attend.

My main problem is my offense. neutral I can win about 28% of the time in P4, 40% or so in Blaz, and 48% or so in Guilty, all of which still suck, but at least it's some improvement (would probably be higher in BB and GG if I remembered that anti airs ecist lol. My defense can be fine as long as I remember what overhead's look like or that throws exist. On offense however, I almost literally do not do anything right. Try oki? Fumble it, get DP'd/poked out/whatever. Landed a confirm? Haha fuck that, just do what you would do if they were blocking and lose the round from it. Only simply stand still and do nothing? Doesn't keep you in, but at least you're probably not going to get counter hit by anything! Honestly, today I actually did that. Just let them have the pressure themselves. It was even in the corner. It actually did turn out better: I survived for probably five seconds longer than what I would have had I actually attempted to mount something!

Honestly: Do the people here just come to me for free wins? Because I am quite frankly almost sandbag quality (completely sandbag quality concerning P4).

Oh, and as for GG competition, go on, tell them I exist. If nothing else, I can certainly give them a confidence booster!

Edit: Oh hello there. Sorry you were greeted by such a downtrodden post, but you hadn't made your introduction when I composed it. Anyway, I'll probably attend that meetup.

So basically you feel like everyone's punching bag?

well if you want to stop losing (or at least constantly) try and learn from your mistakes, watch how your opponent is mixing it up, learn highs from lows etc.

learn your matchups and then learn on hitconfirming (well at least that how it should go in Persona)

and in any game really, learn your mixup and general gameplan on your character and then Test it, if it don't work, come up with a new plan and try again, keep going till your satisfied with how you play

I know that. I know what's required for winning matches. It's just that despite the fact that I know what to do, I never seem to do it right. It's strange really: People always say they're worried during defense more than anything, but I'm generally rather calm within that area. On offense however, the part that seems to mostly be viewed as the easiest, I panic, fumble and lose the round from simply not attacking my opponent right. There's just generally so many things to do on offense in order to keep on offense, I almost always just slip up and switch to the same, autopilot "solutions"; which generally costs me my position.

Sorry about that post. It was whiny, stupid and unnecessary. I do sort of kind of think of myself as the sandbag of U.K. netplay, but it doesn't give me any right to say things like that. I'll try not to complain any more in the future.

Oh and hi new guy. I don't have a PS3, but as well as Finches, Mike may have the game on his, as well as Yuki. I'm not entirely certain for either of them, however

I totally do. One thing i've never seen you do as plat is 5a dash 5a dash 5a etc, is this what they call stagger pressure?

Posted

I think I have done this beforehand. And yes that's what's called stagger, although usually I decide not to risk it and just late chain the 5A, before they reach the distance where it misses. To be honest, confirming is the largest problem: I think Plat sort of spoiled me in that regard lol.

Thats cool Ash, if you get in touch with that manchester/liver player you said you have been messaging try to get them to come down as well. Would be sick to get loads of matches on for GG as its mostly KOF here now (which im not complaining about since its my main game, but i am having a lot of fun playing and learning GG currently :D) just PM me if you need directions to Ormskirk, i would be happy to meet you at the station when you arrive as well since it can be tricky to find the Uni :)
