Hi everyone,

I'm definitely new here and have been trying to see if I can find any comparisons or personal opinions between the Hori Real Arcade Pro V3 SA Vs. the Hori Soul Calibur V arcade stick.

I have a PS3 and I'm trying to get into Blazblue and my old junky stick needs replacement.

I would ideally like the Soul Calibur stick as its cheaper generally, has the neat USB ports, still using good parts, and from what I hear...good for mods (artwork is a tad tough). But my issues with the stick is the layout doesn't seem as good as the Hori Real Arcade Pro V3 SA stick, I like the simple black look to the HRAP3 SA, hopefully it's easier to swap the artwork off than the Soul Calibur stick.

Anyone have any opinions on either one? Does either stick have the ability to shutdown the PS3 system from the stick? I'm a beginner, so I would like to start off with solid footing before I get beat up a lot online.

Thanks,

Crashed

The SOUL stick is as easy to change artwork on as any TE, and getting plexi to change the art lets you decide what layout the buttons have anyway.

Tempting, but two tiny questions. Can any of these sticks turn on my ps3 and control the ps3 xmb menus?

Is the Hrap3 Sa also easy to mod the artwork?

I'll clock in on this tommorow, I need some sleep.

FYI I'm the guy who does hardware mods and customs.

Turn it on, I'm not sure. Mine doesn't, but that's probably because it's dual-modded. If you can turn it on with a normal wired controller, then yes. They will definitely navigate the XMB, though.

Can't speak for the artwork, though.

Isn't this a requirement for all PS3 control devices? In any event, I'm pretty sure I can do this with a dual-modded 360 stick, so it'd be super weird if a licensed PS3 peripheral couldn't.

It isn't a requirement. I have a Hori V3 and it doesn't turn it on.

Well in the end, that's ok, just would be nice is all.

I am leaning on the Soul Calibur stick as it's only $100 on amazon, and it has the two usb port features. I just don't particularly care for the art and the flat top surface. Not a huge deal to me as I'd play on a table.

I like the HRAP3 SA as its a cleaner look, I like that the edge of the stick has a nice angle to it to lean on. But it costs $140 roughly on amazon.

But if Mr. Mortified can help me mod the artwork, that would definitely mean I'll grab the Soul Calibur stick. I really suck and have zero skills at anything with scissors or exacto knives..or art.

Thanks for the help everyone, appreciate it! :D

It's even less important than you might think, unless you leave your stick plugged in all the time, which, since it is corded, you probably won't. Or you'll store it somewhere near the console. In either case, you'll either need to get up and plug it in, or get up and pick it up, both of which will take you into arm's reach of the power button.

Just letting you all know I went ahead and grabbed the Soul Calibur stick from Amazon as it's cheap and a solid stick from what I hear and read. I Should hopefully have it by tomorrow morning :D

Thanks everyone for the help, maybe I'll see you all online sometime
