  1. And uh, BB Starts at 4, apparently, so be there before then.
  2. What's the purpose of this? Self instruction? Or is it intended for consumption by others?
  3. Northeastern University, International Village. Downstairs. I forget the room number offhand. x.x
  4. Boston area monthlies are next Saturday...
  5. As dumb as it sounds, try to find a copy - via emulator or whatever - of like, SSF2T. Or maybe one of the older Fatal Fury games. These older games are total jerks when it comes to inputs, so if you can get your motions down precisely enough that you can DP reliably in them, then you'll have excellent, precise execution elsewhere. I disagree with training on Xrd or something, because modern anime games have all kinds of floppy input detection that can create bad habits.
  6. Yeah; The CPU can't really teach you matchups beyond like, the properties of moves, because they usually won't do things remotely the same way that a human does. Relying too much on the CPU for "how does this matchup work?" is going to result in a very skewed perception of how each character plays.
  7. Spacing and hitconfirms are about all you can get from the CPU - that and more combo practice. In theory you might also be able to learn some punishes, but a lot of the time the CPU does dumb things like mash after unsafe moves, so as often as not this doesn't give good information. Oh, you can probably work on your anti-airing a bit too, and maybe even a little throw teching.
  8. Am I the only person still checking this forum? :P Why isn't there a CF Q&A thread? What are the first combos I should be putting in time to learn? I've basically been doing abbreviated CP combos so far, and they mostly do okay.
  9. Yeah, I too am frustrated by this. There used to be LOTS of info here about BB games, but now it seems like I can't even find out if like, some random move has invuln for part of its animation. Very frustrating.
  10. What's the reasoning behind using j.BB>j.BCC instead of the old j.C > J.CC? Does it do slightly more damage? work in more situations? What's going on? I'm still habitually doing j.C > j.CC and I'm not seeing a noticeable damage difference.
  11. Also, what is 22{D}?
  12. I realize it's a punish combo, but sometimes I fish for 5B (CH) > 6C hits, and 6C is pretty easy to hitconfirm into Install. And with us generally having more charges now, having 2 stocks isn't out of the question. Air conversion sounds sadly awkward. =/ I'm always looking for something I can do after air hit j.CC.
  13. I assume that works from 5B as well, just with reduced damage? (Also, see earlier question about air conversions?)
  14. Beats me! But okay. Delay. Gotcha. Does this mean it is possible to convert air combos to ground combos using j.236A>j.214A?
  15. Maybe I'm old and forgetful, but what does the j.236(A) (with parenthesis) notation mean? Is that a whiff?
  16. Kokonoe is an irritating matchup, because it's really hard to get in past the range of roughly her 3C. You can use your own 3C sometimes, and you can jump in from roughly 3C range as well, which will go over a lot of her pokes and hit her, but you need to be careful of being too predictable because 6C and j.A can blow this up. Harassing with 421A can help - it's weird how many Kokonoe players get confused by this and suddenly think they need to close in - but overall I've found the best way to deal with her is to play annoying and run away a lot, hopefully getting them to commit to something foolish. Obviously, this works better if you can get yourself a life lead, however.
  17. What uncertainty? There's going to be one. Anyone who thinks otherwise is crazy. If you're coming down to "But what if they use voice actors I don't like" then whatever.
  18. I dunno; BlazBlue is a fairly consistent series, and I don't think many people who preorder are unclear on what they're getting. Usually I consider game preorders to be a stupid idea, because the game could turn out to be s**t, but BB is so iterative that there really isn't much room for that. So I don't think it needs serious preorder bonuses. In fact, I'd rather see the resources that could go to creating a "preorder bonus" given out to everyone as a "first print" bonus at the very least. Note: This is different from creating some sort of limited "collector's edition" with toys and artbooks and stuff, because those always involve a price increase - if people want to buy these, that's fine, and it's probably a good idea for companies to make them if they think they can sell them at a good profit. This is serving a different demand than "preorder" bonuses.
  19. I've written about this more or less in passing before, but here's the gist: You should try to have ~3 combos (may actually be more like 2.5) to start playing a character semi-seriously as a beginner. Those should be: A basic BnB combo off your best poke (Usually 5B, but may vary by character) A basic BnB combo off 5A/2A - this one may very well be an abbreviated version of your 5B combo. Some sort of combo off a mixup - either off of an overhead, or off of a throw. All of those combos should be ones that work both midscreen and corner. And it wouldn't do you any harm to learn some "combo stubs" that work in other situations like "if I hit with any of these moves, I can do Hell's Fang -> Followup and add a little damage" More than that when you're just starting to learn a character is going to be way too much for an actual beginner. If you're an experienced player of the game and are just learning a new character, you can probably learn more than that, but for a real, honest to goodness beginner, learning more than the above is way too much grinding combos before you get in and play. The idea that a beginner is going to basically sit in training mode for like 20 hours to learn 10+ combos is absurd. Beginners absolutely DO NOT need corner specific combos, anti-air combos, counter-hit combos or whatever. Heck, I'd argue that you don't even need throw or air throw combos, because for now, the 1500 or so damage+knockdown from those is fine. It's probably not that much less damage than you're getting off your beginner combos anyway. From that starting pool of combos, a beginner should be able to get in and play. And then they should be able to use Beginner Learning Method #1: Watching Replays to determine where they seem to be getting lots of hits, but not getting any damage. Then they can decide based on that information what combo to learn next - "I keep hitting with 2B, and I need a combo off that" or "My anti-airing is good, but I get no damage from it." And they can build organically from there.
  20. Huh. I could have sworn I got 214B to connect once or twice, but maybe I just went straight into the jump cancel part. My memory may be faulty. This isn't a combo that I would necessarily CHOOSE to use, but sometimes I mash DP, and sometimes when I do that, I get super, and sometimes it hits, and sometimes I have a charge, and being able to add 2k to a combo for one charge is a win in my book. And yeah, 3.5k for a reversal is kinda nice. :P It goes in the same category as the 75 meter 63214C RC combos. Not generally important, but super useful under the right circumstances. I already have combos for common situations, so I'm working on weirder stuff, because that can still win you a match.
  21. Hmm. Will work on that next. Next question. Is there a trick to the 236236C > 2366D combo? I've done it a couple of times, but I'm messing around in training mode now, and the dummy keeps teching out before the 214B here: 236236C > 2366D > Dash 5C > 2C > 214B
  22. I'm not "good" but I don't suck either...
  23. Belated thanks for this; Once I read this thoroughly and noticed that it needs to be done after a juggle, it is indeed pleasantly easy! I couldn't get it to work after grounded 236C.
  24. You've just got to practice it. Set the training dummy on random block, do whatever thing you are attempting to learn to hitconfirm, and try to confirm it appropriately depending on whether it hits or is blocked. You can also do this vs CPU if you want.
  25. Ahhh, okay. Great. That gives me some situations to mess with. Thanks!
