M.C.Dillinger Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 (edited) For me, knowing that the game is keeping track of how often I win or lose is enough to stop me from playing online, even though I can't find anyone in my area to play with. Every time I try to play online it feels like the game is trying to humiliate me with every mistake I made. After all, anyone can see players peak from a player room lobby. This creates a feeling that I'm being judged by failure rather than success or effort. This make you stress out on the rare occasions I do play online makes everything worse. And that's why I say no game should ever have stat tracking of any kind, EVER. I stress out about them even when I know it's a little while the player itself. Edit: . . . And who's idea was it to track a win to lose ratio across all player rooms? I look for prayer matches to AVOID this crap. Also, some losing itself that stresses me out but a record of how often I lose. I went to a small tournament last spring and had a great time (even though I was eliminated immediately.) Circuitous Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 No one gives a shit about your W/L record unless it's preposterously high.
M.C.Dillinger Posted August 11, 2012 Author Posted August 11, 2012 so . . . All that matters is my PSR?
Circuitous Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 PSR's a (slightly) better indicator but it's still questionable. Honestly most randoms you fight won't give a shit about your stats, and if they do, their opinion is of little consequence until they fight you anyway. Basically, don't worry about the numbers, just focus on improving yourself as a player and doing the best you can. If you can make a reputation for yourself as someone worth fighting, that'll stick better than your stats.
M.C.Dillinger Posted August 11, 2012 Author Posted August 11, 2012 Why the fuck didn't anyone tell me this three years ago?
Tsuki Garyuu Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 Did you even ask three years ago? lol jk. Take Circ's word for it. W/L ratios don't matter regardless of what game you're playing, even if it's not a fighting game. If it's ridiculously low, then it's just your own sign of needing to get better. Some high level players (by number anyway) might let you in a lobby because of that. Of course, you can always ask some people to help you get over that intimidation.
mr.mortified Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 Trust me, numbers are nothing. I just play everybody, regardless of how much higher/lower level they are and just see how far I can get. w/l is like poop right now for persona, but the main thing is to get used to the game and to know what you can/can't do in a situation against the opponent. It's all about how much you learn from each match rather than the ratio that you have
YukiBlue Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 Unless you're that Swagna PSR god. Numbers don't mean shit. Ever. Not a single digit. EVER.
Akita Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 yes, but not because of points or W/L; b/c of match up
M.C.Dillinger Posted August 11, 2012 Author Posted August 11, 2012 jk. Take Circ's word for it. W/L ratios don't matter regardless of what game you're playing, even if it's not a fighting game. Osuna Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 A lot of things in games aren't important. If you take everything super serious of course it is stressful. There is one number I pay attention to a little bit though. Number of matches played. Usually, but not always someone who has played a lot will present more challenge than someone with a 100% win rate (No offense to any 100% win rates I may have broken)
mAc Chaos Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 I don't even remember someones stats five seconds after I play them, why would I care. I don't even know my own stats lol
Tsuki Garyuu Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 that are antisocial range. Wha? If it's so unimportant, why keep track of it? I never said to keep track of it, not like it should be looked at constantly. Perhaps that particular quite of mine just came out of nowhere. Regardless, don't take W/L into account. Get a couple of people who can help you get over the intimidation.
Superkenon Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 Anyone who would hold your record against you is a douche. But most people don't even pay attention to those scores, let alone remember them. I do care about my own stats a bit, if only to gauge if I'm getting any better. But that's it. In some ways it's like a picture of your cat; no one but you is gonna give an eff. But anyway, take it from a guy who's unlikely to exceed a 5% victory ratio. What people do remember is how good of a sport you are. So, as long as you're having fun and taking everything in stride, you'll be considered good company. The thing is, everyone's gotta lose before they get better, and this is basically universally understood. There's no shame in being beaten, especially when you're learning from each loss. BATTLE SCARS
M.C.Dillinger Posted August 11, 2012 Author Posted August 11, 2012 1) I use speech dictation software to write. Sometimes it completely miss What I said without me noticing. B)I'm in the game itself rather than me. If when the loss ratio is important why does the game show this information at all? Duck) WHAT DO YOU MEAN NO ONE CARERS ABOUT MINE CAT! Just look at him, he's like a little panda bear.
Superkenon Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 Nyaa~!! B)I'm in the game itself rather than me. If when the loss ratio is important why does the game show this information at all? Because it can. Numbers are fun, and sometimes it is interesting to look at. It could just well not exist as far as I'm concerned, but some people like the persistent stats as an incentive to keep playing -- in a similar fashion that character-building keeps people playing something like WoW. But it's definitely a mistake to let it lead you entirely, especially when you don't need it in the first place. You sound like you're having fun playing BlazBlue just for the fun of BlazBlue -- so, take your mind no further than that. Just keep on a-rollin', enjoying the game and the SPIRIT OF COMPETITION!!
mAc Chaos Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 I still like to know how many games I've played. But we keep track of unimportant things all the time. Look at our accounts on Dustloop. It keeps track of our post counts.
