Dazardz Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 (edited) I have no idea why, but recently, nobody appeared on XBL. Then, my XBL Gold ran out, I'm getting it again in about 3 days. But I still need some matchups practice. So if I set the difficulty to hell, will I get good practice, or are they quite easy? I've tried hell mode, and some characters like Carl or Valkenhayn dominate me. Or is even Unlimited+Hell good practice? Edited July 7, 2013 by Dazardz
Goldchampion200 Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 AI will never be the same as fighting an actual player. i know this due to the fact that i spent an incredible amount of time going vs the AI before i played BB online and saw the difference almost inmediatley.
Moy_X7 Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Just go to training mode and set the AI to level 100 Bear in mind that playing against the AI can really only help your hit-confirms, your reactions, and your execution. The AI can read your inputs, it does some questionable things and has a set pattern when doing certain things.
Star-Demon Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 The AI also has instant inputs - In general - if you play them enough you learn that they always do Y when you do X, and more often than not they get hit by Z because they stop caring what you do. Players definitely don't do this in anime games because the options are much larger than that. They attempt to make up for it by being psychic and having instant inputs.
White Man Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 The danger of training exclusively against AI in any competitive game is that there are limitations to what the AI can do. Because AI can't learn new strategies the way a human opponent can, you might find some little trick that works against CPU opponents in every instance and subconsciously make a habit out of using that tactic all the timeāeven when it would be counterproductive to use it in a match against a human player who will only fall for it once before punishing repeated uses. That said, I personally believe there's no such thing as a "bad" way to practice playing a game. Fighting the AI will help with hit confirms and reactions, as Moy said. And even if it does nothing else but help keep your reflexes sharp, at least that's something. As long as you remember that CPU tactics will generally differ from human tactics and are careful not to get too used to abusing tricks against the AI, I don't see any drawbacks to practicing against the computer. It's better than not practicing at all, at any rate.
Cheefoo Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Fighting AI is a good way to practice hitconfirms and combos. AI almost never blocks. They backdash way too much on wakeup and they never stop pressing buttons. They love to input read and hit you with a reversal, but some characters tend to do so more (Valk loves his reversal super and Tsubaki loves her shitty DP's). Protip for defeating any AI opponent (hell mode arcade, unlimited mars, score attack, survival etc.): step 1 pick Ragna, step 2 press 6, step 3 press 2, step 4 press 3, step 5 press C, step 6 do shitty 1-2k combo, step 7 go to step 2. Besides using them as glorified punching bags, they're pretty shit.
Assassin Cross Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Whenever I run out of XBL, I always practice against hell cpu's, but they're not nearly the same as human players. They're very exploitable once you know their patterns. E.g. using bang, most chars will backdash and get hit by cross-screen daifunka, and they'll always get hit by C Nail corner oki after daifunka. But conversely, they can also be really cheap with their instant inputs, e.g. tsubaki's dp's and unlimited hazama's rising fang (i get nightmares from them). After extended periods without XBL, I always develop bad habits, such as being overly aggressive since computers seldom block. But you should be fine since its only three days, and i guess you can practice hitconfirms and combos on them in the meantime.
White Man Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 OP was made almost two weeks ago. I had a joke about a tear in the space-time continuum all lined up, but then I thought it might be a little too esoteric even for a BlazBlue forum.
WipEouT Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 The problem with AI is they have a specific range of reactions/patterns based on what you, as a human player, doing. It may be fine to practice some combo or maybe get a small idea of how it could look like if you faced an opponent who used that character, but never be "comfortable" with an AI and expect to use all of your tactics and strategies online with other players.
TheYukianesa-01 Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 I usually practice using Hell Mode if there's really nothing else to do, because it helps me get used to the system. Just don't pick Hell Ragna as your opponent unless you want to break your controller out of INFERNO DIVIDER frustration.
pianomaster1988 Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 Unlimited mars is a way to practice some blocking. At least the fear of being kill in an instant will eventually put you to block some more.
Henjin Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 AIs are programed to respond to your movements. They are good for testing your reaction in most situations however, using mix-ups like over-heads or vanishing/teleporting to the otherside can screw you over. Done to a Hum opponent is good but a Cpu will catch you in a snap. Just stick to training mode to build your agility against dummy players cuz hell cpu's dont fall for that shit.
