Heh just like I thought - two characters. I don't know why people expected more. This is like 2D fighter demo 101.

Not worth the trouble.

There have been more than enough exceptions for this to be doubtful.

At least I won't miss on anything major without a PS4.

I had kind of figured that the Xrd demo would be a bit more substantial considering it is effectively a paid trial (not to mention, a time-limited trial)...  This would be pretty lackluster even for a free, unlimited demo.

Like most disappointing things in gaming these days though, I suppose this will start becoming the norm.

guess for a jpn PSN demo (where there the arcade version is available) featurin' console modes like tutorial n such somewhat kinda makes sense

also no idea about how big the download can get if more content is included

At least you can get a 14 day free trial of PS+ so you don't have to waste your money like I did.  It does gives me a chance to learn the system and start on Sol combos.

"No Demo" has actually been the norm for a very long time seeing as they hurt sales more often than they help them. "Early Access" is the new scummy hotness these days, though it doesn't apply here obviously.

The fact that they spent man hours and money working on such a limited demo that is only available to PSN+ members and only for two weeks is pretty bizarre. I'm guessing devs get a kickback from Sony if they release their demo for PSN+ only at least, but I can't really understand why they would deliberately remove playing against another player.

The demo is probably targeted at PS+ users who may not have considered purchasing the game otherwise. No sense in including a lot of bells and whistles that would attract more competitive players, as the arcade version already has a training mode.

But yeah, FG demos are rare these days.

It really makes no sense to make it time limited and only for PS+, if they want to catch some potential buyers, it should be for everyone, but maybe it will be available later, after all, the game is not out until december.

Yeah that's why I was guessing they must be getting some sort of kickback from Sony for helping to get people to check out PSN+, because otherwise why would you artificially limit your demo audience? The time limit I don't understand at all, there's probably more to it that we don't know.

I also wouldn't call 2P Versus "bells and whistles" but maybe that's just me. :I:

I was wondering why so crippled, your response makes the most sense to me. I am still going to play the shit out of the 5% they are giving us though. I can at least try and practice sol combos.

Versus is probably not included because, again, people in Japan can just go to the arcade if they want to play other people, and ASW probably wants to avoid cutting into arcade profits as much as possible. Plus you can use Versus as a ghetto Training mode by simply hitting Start on a controller and voila, free training dummy.

Having Arcade and Tutorial with the two main characters makes sense if you're just trying to get the attention of players who might look over the game otherwise. Use Tutorial to learn the basics, play against a basic computer opponent in Arcade to get a feel for the game, and hey, if you like it, buy the full game in a month. Kinda lame, but hey, better than nothing, I guess.

RIP Slayer. May you continue to CH Dead on Time in that alternate dimension you come from.

Don't forget that Dandy Step! But yeah, "Love is Over" to RIP. Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be listening to "Haven't you got Eyes in your Head" as a tribute. >_>

R.I.P Slayer's VA!

Anyone else hate that the DLC characters are on the box art?

Not really, its being a trend lately with BB:CP (Both versions), and P4AU.

And yeah, with all that demo stuff, at least its better than nothing like what T-Beast said, I'd also like it if a Xrd demo came stateside, but probably not. (And even if it did, it might be the same one from the JP demo.)

Early access is just getting people to pay to beta test your game.  This is getting people to pay to advertise your game to themselves.  Sony is also pulling something like this with Driveclub PS+.

In any case, I had a few hundred yen left over in my JP account and I don't have anything else to spend it on so I'll sucker in and give it a shot.

I know they said that the demo they brought to Evo hadn't been optimized to run on the PS4 yet so maybe that's why they don't just run the version they've been bringing to the trade shows... Yeah, I didn't notice any issues with that demo when I played it but I'm trying to be not so cynical here.

the demo makes perfect business sense.

- the people who are hardcore that already play GG aren't going to get anything special from the demo. they're going to buy the game anyway. the demo is not targeted to them.

- the people who have PS+ are people who play lots of random games / probably have more disposable income than other gamers. fucking around in the game for a few hours may lead to additional sales for minimal cost

- arcsys doesn't want arcades to get upset at a loss of revenue for 2 weeks because of an early demo.

bums me out but whatever

What koogy said. I don't know why people were expecting a lot for a demonstration for a game they intend to buy, if not already bought lol.

What more do you need to make you throw your money/wallets harder at ArcSys?

Posted

Yeah, since this is a Japanese-only demo, there's no real need for Versus, since if you want that you can just stroll on down to the local arcade. It sucks for us, but we aren't the target audience.

In other news, I wonder if the tutorial is narrated by the various character's like BB's is. That would be fun.

As unfortunate as this is, I guess it's kinda fitting that he went during a lunar eclipse?  I know that's Dracula's thing, but still.

Demo is disappointing, but I guess they wanted the kind of audience that cares about story mode, and are giving them arcade mode's limited story with 2 characters as a taste of that.

It's just a demo after all. Better than nothing imo.

And I think we should be happy that they made a demo at all !

But yeah, I also think it was Sony's plan to get more ps+ customers.

I plan to get my 14 days free trial next week.

14 days... More than enough to dustloop all day.

Also, the book Leo's holding on the cover may be The Backyard, don't you think guys ?

(Btw, I freakin' love the cover.)

=o, the book has that name?

Well, if it is, hopefully that's how its gonna work in the US LE (Kinda like SCV's LE in a book design way.)

And if anything, you can just get a Yen card/ticket/etc. more or less 1000Y, I know about how much they price hike those cards there, but hey, better than nothing, and some free games from JP PS+ there too. Sweet deal! :kitty:

I don't know if it's its name, but I was referring to the tome written by "Original Man", containing all the knowledge about the Backyard. (They talk about it in one of the trailers)

And yeah, ordering 1000yens is th
