CCVengeance Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Just want to say, thanks for hiding Spoilers as much as possible, guys. I'll be waiting for the 16th to start talking about anything though. I await your expert analysis.
Soviet Bear Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 That story was anime hype as fuck. I loved it, although the fact that it didn't have any gameplay and was just a "visual novel movie" kinda caught me offguard. 1) So Ky turned himself half-gear? That makes me sad I always liked him for being a super badass human. 2) Ram-chan became a likeable character. 3) Lol Venom/Millia/Slayer/Potemkin screentime. 4) So Xrd 2 pretty much confirmed based on this ending
kylehyde Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 How long is the story mode in this game? If there are no fighting segments I feel it might be kind of short. Although CP story mode was pretty long with or without fighting so... Never really liked Ky as a character, loved playing as him though. If he is indeed a half gear now that's pretty awesome.

Tsuki Garyuu Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 So if there's one thing that Xrd's taught us... Pork a Gear; get her superpowers
BlackYakuzu94 Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Does this mean that Ky can now start shooting off Gamma Rays?
Luminos564 Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 So if there's one thing that Xrd's taught us... Pork a Gear; get her superpowers Really? Le sigh, this is just plain sad to me. The other stuff is good I guess.
Tsuki Garyuu Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Really? Le sigh, this is just plain sad to me. The other stuff is good I guess. Well, not like it's confirmed, but it's the most likely sensible outcome. Even if it was, it was still an ass pull. lol

Monokeros Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Nah they'll probably continue the story the same time they finally decide to add Johnny/Dizzy to the game and that seems like it'll happen sooner rather than later.
Daemose Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 I'm dying for some screenshots. And also, any sign of Raven?
Zazz Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 See you in 2025. Plenty of time to make more Holy Zen right?
Dreiko Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Just a small confirmation. Johnny is still voiced by Norio Wakamoto here, right? (avoiding spoilers but this just came to me so I wanted to make sure)
NeoStrayCat Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Just a small confirmation. Johnny is still voiced by Norio Wakamoto here, right? (avoiding spoilers but this just came to me so I wanted to make sure) Yes, from where the credits have his name there, and some time watching it to confirm it. Plenty of time to make more Holy Zen right? Plz, this needs to come back, lol. But that's something for another thread, not here, lol.
Dreiko Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Awesome! Thanks for a speedy response. *hides under spoiler shelter for another week*
king of heart Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 The story mode was a maste rpiece. It was like Shounin mainstream type anime. But it was too related to Overture to the point I was wondering if the people who didn't play the game or watched a play through will have any idea what's going on! As far as I know Slayer's power should be on par with Sol but that wasn't the case in Xrd. Also the story changed the way I look at Bedman and Ramlathal. I really like them now.

As far as I know Slayer's power should be on par with Sol but that wasn't the case in Xrd. Also the story changed the way I look at Bedman and Ramlathal. I really like them now. The game has plenty of resources available for people who need to play catchup on the story. (In game time timelines of important events in the story mode pause menu and of course library mode.) As long as they don't mind A LOT of reading.
TekkamanArk Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Also the story changed the way I look at Bedman and Ramlathal. I really like them now. I like Rammy more and still like Elphelt, but I felt like Bedman had no development at all. He just sorta felt like a Deus Ex Machina to move the plot along, and was never in danger ever except one moment with Gabriel. His character didn't change at all, and his mission is horribly vague. The only thing he had that could be called a character would be his hesitation to attack Rammy (because she reminded him of his sister I guess?), and that felt really forced. A guy who toys with lives and genuinely treats everyone else, and her, like worthless things wouldn't suddenly hesitate.
BioLogIn Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 About 'canon' and 'non-canon' GG games - as far as i can tell, in-game database in Xrd lists like every proper noun we've seen before; all character names, all locations from all games, all artifacts, etc. Or, at least, I haven't found anything that was previously missing after a 5 minute scroll; I haven't had time for a proped research yet. So I wouldn't write any characteer off just because the didn't get any screen time in Xrd story; there's obviously a lot of room left for sequels. Notable characters absent from Xrd story (no mentions, no nothing): A.B.A Anji Mito Baiken Bridget Jam Kuradoberi Kliff Undersn (well, at least he has decency to stay dead =)) Robo-Ky Testament Zappa Raven Izuna That Man 3rd servant Crow Notable characters that made little to no impact on the Xrd story / have minimum screen time: Axl Low - talks with Sony buttons symbols to pass the info about Conclave plans to That Man Chipp Zanuff - finds and saves runaway May somewhere in China (doesn't you have anything better to do, mr. President?), gets his ass hadled by Bedman Dizzy - hugs Ky and shoots Gammay Ray (without getting her wings out, she shoots like from her chest) Eddie \ Zato-1one - saves bunch of losers from Bedman and passes the info about Conclave plans to Ky & team Faust \ Dr. Baldhead - heals May a bit, hilariously teleports from full-speed Mayship to the ground below to set up a beacon, reappears in the very end to question Cronus. Also gets his ass hadled by Bedman I-no - leads Axl to That Man Johnny - find Faust for May's sake; also makes a stand together with leo versus Bedman May - runs away in tears because she is ill and doesn't want others to be hurt; found by Chipp, healed a bit by Faust Millia Rage - gets her ass hadled by Bedman Potemkin - sits on the stool for 10 seconds interrogating sleeping Bedman Slayer - gets his ass hadled by Bedman Venom - gets his ass hadled by Bedman Gabriel - kicks Bedman's ass. PWAB Mentioned once by Slayer (? I think). "Well, they are controlled by Senate, so why bother with them, let's bother with the Senate.". End of story. Also the first GG novel is named Silver Thunderclap as per aforementioned in-game database =\
Zazz Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Notable characters that made little to no impact on the Xrd story / have minimum screen time: I figure the secondary characters like Faust/Chipp/The Jellyfish Crew are pretty much primarily in the story mode to set up the next story arc which would cover the colonies and their mysterious true purpose.
BioLogIn Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Zazz, yeah, that's most likely the case. Doesn't make this particular story mode any more coherent, though.
SoWL Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 I didn't know where else to post this, but has anyone figured just wtf is going on on the monitor in Bedman's stage? Does it mean anything at all to his character? Going back to this, I tried to wrap my head around it now that I have the game, and I kinda wish I didn't. "Lucy and Woof of Life Amusing" is a story about a girl getting a toy dog as a present, going crazy because it's way too creepy, being put in a hospital and burning it down in a fit of psychotic frenzy. Also, moths (who symbolize dreams and concealment). There might be some more subtle layers to the story, since the first half of it goes over a few different scenes pretty quickly, but it's disturbing enough as it is. Who would've thought that something like this could be just a background on one of many different stages in a fighting game. It's okay, I don't need to sleep, I got Xrd.

As far as I know Slayer's power should be on par with Sol but that wasn't the case in Xrd. Also the story changed the way I look at Bedman and Ramlathal. I really like them now. I spent 5 minutes reading the chronology from the pause menu and got an idea what happened in Overture. One of the two things this story did very well was reference and explain past events without forcing it. The other part is how a lot of small details you notice become relevant later on: Like the dog biting Ram all the time, or the Big fucking thunderbolt event. Stuff I didn't enjoy though: A lot of characters were really, really glanced over, like Axl, the Assassins, Potemkin, etc. I feel like they needed a story arc in line with May's running away (which managed to nicely include Chipp, too). Considering they'll be adding new characters in sequels (my bet is Baiken and Anji playing a major role because of the Colony), I don't think we'll ever have such an awesome Axl story And I really miss Millia VS Zato dynamics. I also don't freaking get how Bedman escaped Zepp's custody and why it's literally glanced over and never referenced. It's like everyone forgot about him. But yeah, the characters are extremely likeable in their own peculiar ways. I even enjoyed Ramlethal.
kylehyde Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 So what is Sol's role in the story? I think I've heard about everyone's part except his.
