Leopold Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Not sure if this has been asked before or not.. Recently I was analyzing character designs and came up with an interesting question. You see, Relius wears a mask, yet there's really no explanation for that. We know that Ignis is a perfected version of Ada yet if you compared these two you notice that Ignis has bright blue eyes just like Carl's. Could it be that Relius gave his eyes to Ignis, thus that's the reason why he wears a mask? I just want to hear your thoughts on this matter and see what you think about it.
NecroTheReaper Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 If you take his look from Amane's astral though, he still wears the mask, which would've been before he created Ignis, but that is a joke of an astral, so maybe? I don't know xD

I don't know xD But is Amano a time machine? I though it was just a rejuvenation power. I think it might be still possible that those eyes from Ignis could be Relius' very own. PS: Ty for the tips for Carl early on.
NecroTheReaper Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Ignis' time of creation is the only thing in question, if she was made before or after, that'll answer the question, so if there's a time in one of the mangas or in the story where he doesn't have ignis but wears the mask, we have our answer.
LeDom Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Yeah, it's most likely just for show; to make him look more sinister.
NecroTheReaper Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 That's honestly what I figured, just because things cant make too much sense in BB
Narroo Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 This is the guy in a cape and attacks using dramatic poses inspired by opera terms. It's for show.
mAc Chaos Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 I thought the white eyes were not the mask but just Relius' eyes himself. I was always wondering why they were just white Broly style.
NecroTheReaper Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Maybe it'll be answered in CP, no clue. However, I would like to know if my favorite" now" sadistic scientist lost his eyes if he did.
Chaoschao222 Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Why is this a thread of it's own? It has no place. There aren't open speculation threads atm (one will be made when BBCP releases on console), and there's never really been a set place to talk about character designs (I've weighed pros and cons of making one for a while, and... )
BladeOfJustice7 Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Oh, I thought this discussion could have easily fit in the CP Story thread, in my opinion. Concrete facts and speculation/fantasies are what makes story threads from what i've seen.
Chaoschao222 Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Oh, I thought this discussion could have easily fit in the CP Story thread, in my opinion. Concrete facts and speculation/fantasies are what makes story threads from what i've seen. The two are meant to be separate. The existing thread is lax on these rules because BBCP isn't out. There are already two threads 'pre-made' for once BBCP actually releases on console. So while this discussion would fit into what the current Story thread has become, it's not appropriate for what it's meant to be.
BladeOfJustice7 Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Fair points made, thanks for clarifying. Wasn't aware of the true purposes of these threads intended by the Dustloominati.
Millia-11 Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 I don't know what's up with Relius' eyes, but I think I know why Ignis has birght blue eyes, while Nirvanas eyes are blank. I was thinking about this some time ago, and that's what I've came up with. I remember I've read somewhere that to create a Detonator doll, like Ignis and Nirvana, you need a soul full of hatred. In time when Nirvana still belonged to Celica, here eyes also were normal (had pupils and all, there was a picture somewhere on BlazBlue wiki). Later Celica freed the soul of the machine, and Nirvana was deactivated. When Relius had activated her again, he used soul of Ada, and it was probably not good enough, making Nirvana not fully functional (blank eyes). Later he crated second Detonator, and implanted her with soul of his wife, who was probably pretty pissed about him making a doll of their child, and that's what had made Detonator Ignis working right. That's why Relius also really is interested in Makoto's soul, because she has deeply hidden hatred, that was born in times when people were treating her like sh*t just because she is a beastkin. Of course it's just my speculation, so please don't take this as a fact.
Kibafool Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 I always thought the reason Relius wore the mask is because his eyes were seriously fucked up from his travel through the boundary. It's been shown that he can physically see the souls of others, as demonstrated in Makoto's bad end and when he temporary gave the ability to Carl.

NecroTheReaper Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 If that's the case then I wonder what it does, cuz we have other cases of people falling into the boundary but slapping a mask on them isn't gonna make em any less goopy

From what I remember, Carmine almost reached the center which is why he was turned into Arakune. Relius fell into the boundary during his experiments but didn't get turn into a blob, but instead his vision was distorted to see souls. In response to TD, it's not the mask that lets him see souls. When Relius woke up in the field after going through the boundary, his eye sight was already different. During that scene, to me it sounded like he was actually blind and can only see other's souls. None the less, there is something special about his eyes which he keeps hidden behind that mask.
