Mr.Sparkman Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 So whats the deal with the mantle? I haven't played the earlier games but I assume its defense vs offense related. Also this a good suit to practice the "2nd impact" trick right? CS.a seems good
Mightfo Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 So whats the deal with the mantle? I haven't played the earlier games but I assume its defense vs offense related. Also this a good suit to practice the "2nd impact" trick right? CS.a seems good The mantle absorbs beam attacks without causing hitstun or anything, so you can use it to safely land or be aggressive. You can also cancel things like A into it for fastfalls to help you get a boost advantage or whatever. Without the mantle you are faster.
AirMaster Posted February 4, 2014 Author Posted February 4, 2014 In Vanilla, the speed difference was really noticable. In Full Boost, he moves around much faster with the mantle on. But slightly slower than without it. Removing it when jumping and putting it back on when landing it still a very good idea. Anyway, added more changes. If someone could help with translating the additional combo paths it'd be really appreciated
vedasisme Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Common maneuvers: [6B] > rainbowstep > csA > [bC] Helps you with spacing, and does a fastfall that cuts guidance. Unsafe if the opponents are double-locking you. [bC] > csA > [bC] If you already have the cape on and you want to csA cape-cancel into a protected landing. Also take good advantage of the ability to fastfall your turn-shots. You can sneak in lots of defensive landings this way and get a reversal of pressure.
LinksJP Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 The bump down to 2000 cost really helped this thing. I was never terribly impressed by X2 in EXVS since it seemed to be way over budget at 2500 for what it brought to the table, but I have a really positive opinion on it now. Mantle gives it a lot of effective health, even if its actual health is only 540, cs.A is still really good, and AB is flexible in that it can be used to finish a br zunda or space melee suits. Didn't benefit as much as kshatriya from the cost reduction but X2 is definitely a lean 2000 cost suit with a lot of options and a surprising amount of bulk. All hail cosmo babylonia
Lucalibur Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 I have been interested in this game for a while, and have always liked the Crossbone X-2. If I were to pick up, what should I expect of this guy? As in, my basic gameplan, strengths and weaknesses, etc. It SOUNDS like a good unit for the rather tolerable cost of 2000 points, but I would like to hear feedback from people who played the game and tested this unit. Also, the mantle seems to affect speed as mentioned up above, but the wording confuses me a little. Is he faster without it or something? Sorry if I'm not making myself clear, I don't have much experience with this game other than videos but X-2 really caught my interest.
Skillkill107 Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 You're fine mate. He's faster without it while moving and rises faster, however he falls faster with it on and can cancel out of recovery frames by tossing it on. X2's gameplan relies on managing how he uses his cape to alter his landings, how he lands his CSa to grant opportunities to himself and his partner and how efficiently he can control his spacing and utilize his movement tools. Beyond that, I wouldn't say he's a very easy suit to pick up but he's a pretty spiffy suit, I always give him a bit of extra attention since a good one can wreck your day.
Lucalibur Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 So with the mantle allowing him to cancel the recovery from landing and granting him an 'extra' layer of life against beam weapons, you could say he has a few more options to avoid trouble than the average unit? I've noticed CSa is pretty good in general, really wrecks people's day like you said if they try doing something unsafe while you're watching. I guess the basic idea is that he is rather spacing and movement heavy and has the tools required to do that. Alright, that sounds just like something I would enjoy playing as. Thanks for the help.
Skillkill107 Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Yeah everything's more or less right except well...the landing recovery frames, I meant more like for his CSa/Sub or out of angle shot. Otherwise everything else is accurate and the beam mantle can be used to make his landings safer anyway.
Lucalibur Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Ah sorry, got that wrong then. Still, it's pretty great. I went through quite a few suits but this is still the one that caught my interest the most. Maybe I'm just a sucker for badass coats, but I also just plain like the design of the Crossbone series and X-2 in specific is my favorite. Looking forward to trying him out if I manage to get the game.
