I didn't see it asked elsewhere but how do we issue communications to our allies before and after a match?

L1 button is the communication button by default. Hitting L1+a direction on the dpad/stick allows you to send different messages. By default of course the messages are all in japanese, but just tapping L1 at the start is a respectful gesture towards your partner. You can also customize your messages and make ones in english, if you need to say specific things like front, back, watch out, etc.
