Hey guys, I just started playing GG recently in preparation to learning the mechanics of the game for when Blazblue comes out. I picked up Sol for now but I'm having trouble getting his SW loop on other people. I can do the 2D combo on sol himself but Ky for instance gives me trouble for clean hits. My question to you is, is there an even easier person to pick up than Sol-badguy or should I just stick it out and keep trying. Also, any links to videos of these combos would be appreciated.

I have yet to play Blazblue, but as far as I understand, the system is quite different. There are similarities, so it should help some. Also, Guilty Gear is just an amazing game, so you should continue to play it too.

I wouldn't say any single character is easier to learn than others, but when it comes to winning, you'll find difficultly with the low tiers. I'm not saying it can't be done, far from it actually. Personally, I believe you should pick a character you really enjoy and have fun playing; otherwise, you will get bored and go nowhere. As far as combos go, just keep practicing and you'll get them down. Play around in training mode a lot, but make sure you try out new combos and tactics in an actual fight because it is way different.

Finally, welcome to Guilty Gear! I'm far from being the best or tournament level, but I'm getting there. It's definitely a blast; I hope you stick with it.

in addition to the above posts, i wanted to add that you should also poke around Youtube for Sol combo videos and Sol matches.

With each character Sol faces, they have a 'sweet spot' for SW clean hits. So to properly get it down you'll have to do the loop in training mode vs. everyone and see where you hit nets you a clean hit. I find doing it in the chest area nets me clean hits on most characters. Once you figure that part out it's a piece of cake to do SW loop.

Wow, a lot of this information is kind of misleading, in my opinion:

1. Actually, some characters are a lot harder or easier than others, regardless of tiers. Venom and Millia, for example, are generally considered very hard to pick up, while characters like Pot or Jam are considered fairly easy to learn the basics for. While I agree that you should pick a character for whatever arbitrary reasons you see fit, you'll have to deal with losing more in the beginning if you pick someone hard to work with.

2. To say "don't rely on SW loops" is also misleading. You probably mean that learning combos shouldn't be one's first priority in picking up a fighting game, which is true. You'll be much better served by getting the hang of defense and getting hits in before you focus too much on combos. However, it is kind of Sol's main loop, so if you want to play Sol and do damage, it's the way to go.

3. Yeah, some SW loops are character-specific, but it's not as hard as it sounds. Even I can do basic SW loops on most characters and I'm pretty scrub at Sol. A good resource for Sol combos is this thread, made by a very strong player by the name of Veteru.

Hey all, just a quick question, I'm about a year into playing fighting games and GG has definately been the most fun I've played and I want to start entering local tourneys... I've been playing reload online because its the only human comp I've got and I'm using a Hori EX2 which I have for my 360. But that's not AC, I have it for the Wii but only have a gamecube controller. I'm thinking of getting an arcade stick to help me learn AC, BUT can I really learn AC from training mode and vs CPU in AC and then playing real life people on reload? Do the 2 games combine well?? Hope that makes sense...

If you ask me...and you guys can laugh all you want, but it actually might be worth looking in to: Play GG...Play GGX...Play GGXX...Play #R...Play Isuka...Play Slash...and THEN play GGXXAC+ (in that order). Just pick a character from the series and just TRY to stick with them as you try each game in the series and watch the changes made, you may learn more than you bargained for.

Makes sense to me! But can I take and blend my vs human experience from reload over to combos I learn in AC vs CPU?

when trying to learn how to play GGXXAC don't listen to blade he doesn't help

Whatever, you Zappa is beasting all hardcore now. :arg:

Not picking zappa has nothing to do with how good zappa is. It's just presumed that you aren't going to want to learn to play 5 characters instead of just one or two (ABA). Eddie is still just one character, since getting the shadow is a pretty consistent event.

Moral of the story: Don't play zappa. Play Slayer instead.

Easy character? Anji. I am glad that I started out with Anji. His combos are dead easy and this character makes you think of creative ways to get in or setting up Okizemi. Definitely try him out.

toss out two or three Potemkin Busters a round, you'll be set.

"Hey, I hit you two times and already evened the match!" XD

Says you. I learned a lot from that experience.

Why do people hate anything I say?

This is obviously misleading and useless if you were wondering blade.

BMS: lol most pros dont even play an alt ino's during casuals. I-no requires a heap of dedication just to play her casually amongst skilled players. We all know this so nobody recommends I-no to newbies.

Snare: What you can take from #R is spacing skills and get really accustomed to mixing people up online. Though I doubt the validity (and honesty) of people online, you need to be money matching people or at least have arcades/attend local gatherings where people actually care if they lose so you can learn something. Just go up and ask your locals (since you have tourneys)... and get some matches/training with them (even if your getting smashed). Try and get some feedback from them so you can work on getting those skills.

Playing against CPU can give you extremely nasty habits that WILL get you killed against human opponents. You know like doing unsafe moves that are never punished on block by CPU's. You need to be unrelenting during pressure because this game is so offensive and CPU's unlike humans can just block everything so you might feel like everything you try is worthless and not get into the practice of Okizeme or feel rewarded when you hit them for doing it.

One clean hit SW into 2h into air combo that ends with a VV should be your staple for now. This is so you never miss your chance to mix them up and do it again. You'll know when you can land more than 1 CLSW consistently enough to start upping your reps.

Why is it misleading and useless... You start a character early on, you learn their ins and outs, you learn their changes, you understand them more...WTF is wrong with that????

why do all that extra work when char move properties are constantly change throughout each revision. Take Jo for example, Nevered played him in ggx but i heard hes got insane mist recover thus allowing him to do easy unblockable and all the hs moves dmg/stun like crazy? then in xx JO got even more raw dmg with 6h and addition of ensenga. In reload, divine blade and corner coin combo become the staple. In slash, with the introduction of Jackhound JO's gameplan was changed as he can put out consistent dmg not only in mid-range but also half-screen distance thanks to mistcancel Jackhound antics. In addition, the mist finer property changed to allow more one-hit recoin setups into mist. then comes AC where most of the staples combo carried from reload/slash is gone and replaced with crappy killerjoker frc combos. Just play the most recent revision and hit up the forum when u need clarification/inspirations..or motivations.

Just wanna add my opinion if you don't mind.

Johnny was stupid broken in GGX, from what I remember.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWrl7CboQZw lol mist lol.

In AC, his mist got destroyed by the nerf bat. Jackhound still has a use, but at a higher cost. Good news is that 3HS came back. I also prefer the old DB, compared to the knockdown DB. Then again we have KJ, which can kinda do the same thing. :psyduck:

Also

ALSO

I think Blade has a valid point, sort of. If a person can play #R online, learn the mechanics of GG, then move on to AC and learn the Forcebreaks/Slashback it's all good. However, telling someone to actually play Isuka is just wrong. Terrible game is terrible.
