BBCS2 Final Loketest Changes

By Guest, in Home,

Apparently this is loketest #5, and is the final loketest before the arcade release of BBCS2 on December 8th in Japanese arcades. Loketest #5 is available from November 15th to the 22nd, and listed changes have been piling in. Special thanks to Ushidonburi for Tweeting the changes, and your fellow Dustloop members for translating the Tweets into a compiled list. So read up, and be happy/sad at the changes before it hits the arcades, and possibly a console patch...

"Meet Your Mod" Episode 1: A.X.I.S.

By Guest, in Home,

A big welcome to Dustloop's newest moderators! Here, we are committed to the competitive scene with organized information and active discussion to further everyone's game play. We feel these newest additions will elevate character boards and reflect active members who consistently contribute. Some may be familiar, while some of these users aren't "celebrities" (yet). We are going through a QnA process to help our Dustloop community get more acquainted with our newest moderators.

- Why did you choose that particular handle, is there a story or reference you'd like to explain?

I chose this handle mostly on a whim, I used to call myself grey shadow but more often than not it was taken, when I first came to dustloop 2 years ago I decided to name myself Solbadass as a tribute to how awesome he was but then something changed, when Blazblue Calamity Trigger came out I decided for another name change, this one is the one I am known as now AxisTheBeast.
the reasoning for the change this time was because it sounded cool in my head and plus I wasn't gonna go in public and get called Solbadass for everything, something short and sweet besides it sounds way better than grey shadow and Solbadass.

- What is your background with fighting games...Did you start with BB or are your OG like SFII?

BB wasn't my first fighting game but it was the first I chose to play competitively, when I was a kid I was big street fighter and SNK fan, I played SF champion addition and the street fighter alpha's, for SNK I played KoF 1998 on Dreamcast, I also played plenty of Tekken and Soul Calibur with a Side a smash until finally I went up to GG Accent Core...A really good game.
for the most part I was a casual player until BB.

- What competitive scene are you involved with? (Ranbats, Arcades, XBL, PSN, Reload Online etc.) Would you elaborate the benefits of this particular scene?

I used to be a scrubby netplayer, until some people in our State decided start showing up to ranbats. (me included.)
I'm AxisTheBeast on XBL and I built a very silly rep for myself, good thing about online is gaining match up experience, at least the basic's of it, you can never achieve your max potential through online as I quickly realized when I played my friends offline, with online you never need to worry about entry fee's and gas money and the noisy guy who's in the crowd talking mad shit but...that's what makes offline fun, that and getting to know the people who share the same interest.

- How strong do you feel your nation is as a whole, what is the next step to strengthening it?

Only way we can strengthen ourselves is by getting more people into the scene and playing the game, netplay can only get us so far and tends to leave bad habbits, put ourselves in an environment when we can actually talk about the game without using a mic, yeah I am calling netplayers out.

- Which player(s) give you the most trouble and why?

Really aggressive players and patient players.

- What has been the most helpful tool while growing stronger in BB?

Match vids...most new players really haven't noticed it but those players over sea's on that tiny island do and know wonderful things, sometimes its inhuman and sometimes it just looks cool.
I also watch combo video's some of that stuff has a practical use to it.

- Is there anything you'd like to share regarding your respective character or Dustloop in general?

Tager-hang in there guys.
I know its tough and sometimes stressful when your backed into a corner but remember its never over until tager is dead.

IPlaywWinner BBCS Podcast w/ Coopa and Dacidbro

By Guest, in Home,

http://iplaywinner.com/news/2010/10/23/the-ipw-blazblue-cs-podcast-ep-001-feat-dacidbro.html

Featuring Coopa and the (in)famous Dacidbro. It's mostly an introduction to BBCS and the community, but still an interesting perspective. They also discuss the patch about halfway through the podcast.

Stuck at home on Halloween weekend with nothing to do? Sick of all the popular streams being hogged by the usual crap while your favorite game is being reduced to an afterthought? Fret no more! On October 30, Team Sp00ky will be streaming the Team St1ckbug Bi-weeklies in Brooklyn, NY. Featuring 2v2 tourneys only for GGAC, BBCS, and MBAA, St1ckbug Bi-weeklies is a chance for you to see some of the best players in the Northeast Region in action in your favorite games.

So if you're in the area, come out and compete/chill/hype up the players, and thank Sp00ky for giving the scene some love.

Also, word on the street is we may possibly have a Salty Runback from the SB5 BBCS Grand Finalists, so stay tuned for more info!

On the weekend of November 5, 2010, Level|Up series and Tournament Legacy are throwing together a huge regional tournament for the Southern California area complete with huge prizes. SoCal Regionals will feature BlazBlue: Continuum Shift along with the usual tournament lineup, but with an added twist: the stakes are higher than ever thanks to the good folks at Aksys Games, as they will provide the $1000 prize pot to be split among the top 4 placers. Not only will they get cash, other sponsor prizes as well such as joysticks and monitors are up for grabs too.

So who will reign supreme in the SoCal BBCS scene? Will someone from a different region best them all? Or will we see any hidden surprises?

Be sure to register for the event ASAP if you're planning to go; registration price increases the closer the event approaches. If you can't make it to the event, a live stream will be provided courtesy of Level|Up.

On the weekend of October 15, 2010, hypeness descends again upon the Midwest for Season's Beatings: Redemption. While the main focus of this tourney has been on MvC2 in years past and recently SSF4, tourneys for the other games are just as hype, and this year should be even moreso for GGAC and BBCS, with the best of the East Coast and the West Coast flying in.

Which coast will reign supreme in GGAC and BBCS? Will all those questions be answered once and for all?

If you're planning to go to the event, keep in mind that online pre-registration ends by October 11th, so don't delay!

Anji Mito: An advanced guide to Anji

By Guest, in Home,

Every thread needs drunk irc chat. So its time to contribute.

<klaige> no love for the old fucker of the room
<klaige> in that case it's time for old man stories in the irc chat.
<klaige> once apon a time..many years ago (in 2003) there was as college student named travis.
<klaige> Travis had unexpectedly stumbled across this new 2d fighter... guilty gear XX
<klaige> Travis decided he was intrigued...and wanted to know how really good players played this new fighter.
<klaige> he watched videos..and studied the ways of guilty gear.
<klaige> then by accident on a summer vacation with his fiance' he learned of this mystical land... the family fun center of omaha nebraska
<klaige> the family fun center had a guilty gear cabinet. it even had players who played the game competitively
<klaige> travis decided to venture out to the family fun center for a guilty gear tournament
<klaige> when he got there.. the goddamn cabinet broke...it seemed all was lost.
<klaige> but late in the night a magical tech man repaired the cabinet...and the tourney was on.
<klaige> Travis shenangianed his was through the field...doing non-sensical combos and having no other intuation than to mash out the most damaging things he knew over and over again.
<klaige> Eventually he took 2nd..in the first tournament he ever played..... extremely proud...he decided he had a career in fighting games
<klaige> foolishly Travis would go on to invest retarded amounts of time in effor in ever guilty gear game henceforth.
<klaige> in the 2006-2007 times he imagined a fairy land...where other iowas would flock to play guilty gear with him
<klaige> sadly this was not to be..and he continued to go to other states any time he wanted to play that fucking game
<klaige> eventually he got national recognition as one of those dumbasses who chose Anji-Mito as his main.
<klaige> And thus he travled the midwest...drinking whiskey and challenging many fuckmuppets to games of guilty gear.
<klaige> Now he resides in a fucked up house in west des moines..acitng as the crotchety old motherfucker of iowa fighting games
<klaige> He pines for a time when he house wasn't fucked by sewage floods...and when people gave a shit about gulty gear.
<klaige> One day perhaps his skills will be relevant...but for now he bitches and moans....and dreams of days where guilty gear is king...and his wasted time means something.
<klaige> Until then..he drinks more whiskey and farts alot in his computer chari..
<klaige> calling these new fighting game players whippersnappers and ingrateful fucksocks.
<klaige> he will die a lonely death.... eating cookie dough and drinking whiskey til his heart explodes.
<klaige> and all will say......
<klaige> 'hey...who was that fatass that played the faggy fan dude in gear 50 years ago?"
<klaige> -
<klaige> "what? stfu and playe more SF7"
<klaige> "kay"

Going Back to Guilty Gear

By Guest, in Home,

I had written up a post about how I felt BB's downfall is it's failure to create a platform for players to showcase their own style and invention, due to basically being a mix of a Capcom fighting game components (where your options in general are very limited, and depth comes from mastering that with footsies and option selects) with airdasher components thrown in that actually resulted in removing a lot of the depth you find in a Capcom game (not to mention okizeme as a whole), but I realized it would probably fall on deaf ears here.[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]

Instead, I'm wondering if there is any way that GG in America can have some sort of growth in player base aside from the obvious new release or throwing more events. While Blazblue as a whole is nowhere near GG at a high level of play in terms of required character knowledge and execution, I don't believe that Blazblue players are any less capable of getting to know a system like GG's and enjoying it thoroughly. GG is a hard game to digest from the start, but it's always going to be easier picking up a fighter once a player is already familiar with the genre- I think the fundamentals of GG can be taught using BB as a building block, as odd as a thought that seems coming from GG. The key here is that there is a genuine interest in the game, which must first come from exposure.

I've thought about making both beginner and advanced short tutorial videos for guilty gear but have always ditched the idea since I figured there just wasn't an audience for it. I'll start bringing ideas for it together again since I still think it could only help. Perhaps there can be a section of dustloop dedicated to presenting particularly interesting high level GG matches, with commentary/pointers making it easier to digest and therefore more interesting and informative for newer players.

Negativity is never going to spur growth in the scene or help it as a whole... it's not Marvel. The game just has no replacement yet, and doesn't seem to be getting one soon. Instead of pointing out the downsides of a game like BB and spending time wishing for a new GG, it might not be too late just yet to keep some semblance of a scene in the states.

Official statement on the delay of US Valkenhayn: http://blazblue.jp/topics.html#topics145

The English version from our friend Belsarius at aksysgames.com: http://www.aksysgames.com/forums/topic/895

" ... UPDATE:
Arc has released an official statement, dealing with the issues causing this delay, and their suggested workaround. The issue is basically this: The patch that enables use of Valkenhayn (not the Valkenhayn DLC itself) also introduces a bug. Since the 360 patch and DLC haven't been released yet, the 360 version is currently unaffected, but any PS3 versions that have been patched are. Arc is, of course, currently working on a solution, but for now they have the following suggestion:

Arc System Works said:

The Cause:
When waiting for the Ranked Match matchmaking, players can practice using the "In Queue Training Mode". While in Training Mode, if the player is playing with one of the following combinations: "Ragna x Hazama" and "Ragna x Valkenhayn" and finds a match, completes the match, and returns to "In Queue Training Mode," a freeze will occur.

The Solution:
Avoid using the following characters while taking advantage of the "In Queue Training" feature: Ragna, Hazama, Valkenhayn. *Using any other character and "In Queue Training" will not cause the game to freeze.*

You can find the full statement from Arc here http://blazblue.jp/topics.html#topics145 but it's all in Japanese. If you want to contact Arc's support department, you can e-mail them at support (at) arcsy (dot) co (dot) jp. Exactly how long it will take for Arc to finish the patch and run it through the approvals process is uncertain, but our best guess at this time is probably a few weeks. That's an unofficial guess, however--how long it will actually take is up to Arc, and they haven't given us an estimate yet.

The DLC, however, will still be going up on the NA PSN on the 28th of this month. Just keep in mind that in order to use it, you need the patch, and the patch introduces the issues described above.

Additionally, the 360 DLC and patch have been (unfortunately) further delayed because of issues with Microsoft's servers. Sadly, there is no projected release date for them at this time.

tl;dr:

PS3: Patch has been released, DLC will be released on the 28th. Installing the patch, however, will introduce a crash bug. Arc has suggested a work-around, described above. They are working on a fix, but as of this moment there is no projected date for when that fix will be released.

360: Patch and DLC have both been delayed, due to an issue with Microsoft's servers. There is currently no projected date for when the issue will be resolved."
