  1. Nope, Andy just said he was running it and GG was welcome.
  2. I'm sure we'll have something on the go. I talked the AE crowd into experimenting with a Player Points system, so I've got my eye on how that's working out for them. There's always the option of mini-tourneys too. Might be fun to mix and match. When are you getting back anyway? There's talk of a February tourney at Algonquin being organized. Lolz
  3. Been studying up on Testament, and this gem of a series came up on Goldenrody's YouTube channel: 1 Hour + of FAB (PO) vs Shuumatsu
  4. Heh, it sounds like you don't wiff 7/8j.S as much as I do! Unless I show that I'm not afraid to j.236H my recovery for the surprise hit, my opponents tend to counter-attack/pressure after the wiff and can keep me from even landing. The move's not too hard to "wiff-confirm" and is pretty much the only good hitbox you can throw out in that scenario. With the FRC point to kill the recovery, it can be worth the gamble by restoring things to neutral (and making them think twice about counter-attacking immediately in those scenarios), especially when the alternative is letting them get in with your sword out of the picture. But I agree that the other two moves should naturally see more use in a match (especially if you're not ass like me at the sword-rush FRC...).
  5. It can be used to re-position the sword when the opponent is slipping past it. It creates a hitbox between Zappa and the sword's old position that can catch the opponent by surprise, and is FRC-able on landing to ensure it's safe and the sword's back near you. For example, if you go for an instant neutral j.S and the normal wiffs behind the opponent, you can still j.236H before hitting the ground and catch the opponent trying to counter attack by filling the space between with the spinning sword.
  6. So what were the results of the other league matches at Dev's? Update the file, or else post them here and I'll do it.
  7. Dev's place tomorrow? I'll probably just be there for a couple hours before leaving at 5:30. Going to skip on bringing a console this time, but I'll have sticks and converter in tow. Also linking the Google Doc for our GG League in my sig so everyone can find it. Finally, Bruce brought something amazing to my attention: Bedman footage! Watch now before it's taken down! So beautiful. :')
  8. I see you're expanding on to SRK now for the food-related topics. Next you can resurrect the Skullheart thread as your personal political soapbox!
  9. Sick, grudge match time. Channel that rage into beating him Thursday in a league match!
  10. Not saying you need to plan out all your matches for next week of course. Better to leave some of it to question so that we can freely move matchups around based on who's actually available, and so one no one gets locked into too many/few. We don't want it to become about preparing for all your specific matches either because we can never guarantee we won't have to pair you against someone else instead. But if two people agree and show-up, that might as well take priority.
  11. I think, either way, we have to do this now before he leaves. I'm going to say you and I square off next week like we talked about, as will Phil and Dev. We should try to make sure everyone has at least 4/7 matches under their belt by the end of next week. Anyone else want to lay down any specific challenges, or do I have to get arbitrary again?
  12. Alright, here's the link to the Google Doc. Creative vandalization / input / corrections appreciated. Anyone who has ideas of how to run this better, chime in. I'll try to keep the telling-each-player-conflicting-information-as-to-whether-they're-playing-a-real-league-match-or-not to a minimum from now on. (Apologies again, FreezerB and Dagwood!) Next time I'll try to get us started earlier, so we're not trying to squeeze in random matches right before people leave. I'm personally in favour of getting all our matches (plus the finals?) out of the way by the week before Christmas, as I'm screwing off to visit family in the 'States. If Psykotik still wants into the league after NEC, we could do it. We'd just run a Psykotik-kumite night or something to catch things up. Otherwise, the league's still open for anyone else who's going to be around for the next few weeks. (Tapioca? Tuigi? ...VERBAL?)
  13. Yup, we are. Still working on reconfiguring the template to reflect that, but I'll post it once I do so everyone can keep track or update it themselves if I'm not around.
  14. Screw Google Spreadsheet, Challonge records things much better. You just have to search through all the possible matches to fill in results since there's no matchup chart built in. We can try to start a GG round robin tomorrow if people are motivated. There's just some planning and time frames to take into account if we're going to accommodate everyone who's expressed interest. Also not sure if anyone will be bringing equipment besides me tomorrow. (Dev's got other commitments this week at least.) I'm only juggling either a console or a monitor myself with the sticks, not both, so I'll just go with the console unless people are bringing more than one already. EDIT: Talk to me if you're bringing equipment.
  15. The Bedman cometh! It's a really politically-charged character given the circumstances behind Japan's current economic woes. xD Otherwise, I've got a league chart mostly whipped up in Google Spreadsheet that I'll share when I get home a little later.
  16. Hmmm, I dunno. I definitely agree with free character pick (except after a win), and standard 2/3 rounds (so it doesn't alter the value of Bursts), but it might make sense to play for more games during league matches so it's not all over in a flash. I think Topanga was doing something like first-to-seven games, but that's probably too much for our purposes. I'd personally vote for at least first-to-3 games for the round robin phase. Not for the league-end tournaments though. We don't want those dragging. Oughta keep them standard.
  17. Yeah, this is kind of how the World Cup is run. The lower half of the league table gets eliminated and the upper half gets seeded in a tourney (though a single elimination one). I think this could be a good approach. Definitely for a tournament at the end, but we still want to leave openings for catch up outside of Gonq in playing out the league matches, right? Gotta allow for some matches taking place off campus for those times when someone has to skip Gonq, because DQ's don't determine who's da bess. Haha, yeah, but considering these are going to be casual, informal, low-stakes tournaments in front of no one you don't know, don't you go banking on them legitimately preparing you for the real thing... ...until we start streaming them and become instant-Twitch sensations, of course!
  18. Yeah, I've got the same concern. The problem with weekly tournaments that we add the points up from is just that: missing a week entails missing potential points. If each tournament is just its own thing, with its own prize, it's not a problem, but then they stop feeling like big deals. The format I mentioned (which worked pretty well back when I played in competitive 8-ball leagues) I think is most commonly referred to as a Round Robin, and sees every player play against every other player a set number of times for points/wins. The advantage of this format is that if someone falls behind on playing out their matches, they can catch-up another time. It can work well with long sets, and can really be played out in as many "rounds" as we'd like, depending how long we want the league cycles to last. No one has to worry about administration beyond recording results, and we just generally pace ourselves so no one gets too far ahead of the rest in the number of matches played (so the weekly standings mean something). If someone wants to join late, we just finish up the remaining matches of the cycle, find our winner and start a new league, or else we let the new player into the already-running round robin and they play extra matches per week to catch-up.
  19. We're talking about GG ranbats, right? Like weekly tournaments? Or a league table to play out, ala Topanga Asia League? The latter makes more sense to me, as it's more flexible in terms of organizing matches, since people could run their matches at either 'Gonq or other meetups, depending what people can actually make it to. Gotta keep in mind blizzards and other seasonal obstacles will start to get in the way soon, so the more flexible the format, the better.... (What to do if new people want into the league? Run a bunch of catch-up matches?) Personally, I'm only lukewarm to the idea of mini tournaments for points like what they tried last month with AE. I'm not all that interested in seeing 'Gonq turn into a set weekly commitment to worry about, mostly because my future is murky and there will be bad weather days. :scared: EDIT: I'm curious what those who haven't chimed in yet think. Phil? Adam? Bruce? Joe?
  20. D'oh, yeah, we all broke for dinner out at the same time. If you had come about 30 minutes later I think you would've caught people returning. Best bet is to text someone if you're coming at potential dinner hours just to confirm where people are at.
  21. Going to grab Bruce and swing by in a bit so we can get our Faust on.
  22. Ooo yes, great stuff, based Honnou. *runs off to try it all out*
  23. November 24th? It's not out of the question. I'm curious to see more information about the monthly turn up though; last time Pedro mentioned it, it didn't look like anything was planned out. I trust it won't be like the recent weeklies where it's all CP and no GG?
  24. I'm still up in the air. There are at least system and aesthetic things that I don't like that will keep it from replacing GG for me, but if Izayoi turns out to play as well as I'd like a second waifu to play, then I'll give it some of my time. For now my muscle memory is still baffled by her BnB from the few minutes I've invested, so it might not be until I can get training mode time in that I really start playing.
