Ottawa: Why have fundamentals when you have gimmicks?
Essay replied to Freezerburn's topic in International
Excellent news! looks fun, and now your avatar will actually make sense here. The setup sounds mad hype as well. Also in excellent news, I managed to get out and see Django Unchained in theatres, so if I could handle a 160-minute movie and hour drive with only slight discomfort, I should be able to make a gather soon. My fuel fund will be a bit precarious until I'm really back in business though, so I should probably be selective with my trips into the city. (Unless anyone ~between Constance Bay and Centretown wants to hire me and my Suzuki as a cheap taxi service. Then I'm down for coming out any time, haha.) -

To be clear, you're stuck with that Tuesday night class afterall, so it's all Mondays for the rest of the term? Or just until you get that exemption? Not that I can make it out quite yet... but soon. -

What he said. In games like these with so much going on on the screen, it's hard at first to try to juggle hit-confirming and general execution on top of pacing, movement, reacting to your opponent's character, reading your opponent, timer/meter-management, and wacky ArkSys character-specific sub-systems. When we go into training mode, that whole second group is usually out of the way, but it can hit you like a ton of bricks as you jump back in. Best advice is getting as much drilled into memory and "feel" as possible to free up your mind for the stuff that you're actually worried about and lacking in. Feel that framedata, hurtbox gif, run speed, or whatever in live matches now (even if you've only got the computer to work with) and you'll have an easier time thinking about execution later. Fewer distractions. With someone in Guilty Gear, or is that in BB and P4A too? Because, yeah, it's there in GG and it's more timing-imperative than it looks, unless your whole OTG is just about setting up a tech-chase (which can be a valid use of it). Now I have a hit-confirm string. Ho-ho-ho. -

We talking impractical starters for your character or just execution troubles? And which game? I just found out about BB and P4A's advanced-input buffer on held buttons. Godlike feature that. Now all of a sudden I can do Aigis combos. :bad: -

I'm not quite good to go for a session yet, but I'll let you know as soon as I'm game. -

Must've have been the screens he was using. Evo Monitors on the horizon, I take it? -

Is Gonq back in session? The last thing Krackatoa said about it in the SRK thread was "No Algonquin meets until school is back in session. -_-;". -

Why didn't anyone tell me that Izayoi has a Morrigan/Jedah/I-No hover dash? And teleports? And color palettes that don't look like ass?! Count me in for the next BB release; I think I found my character. Otherwise, Happy New Year's, people! -

Oh, we'll be selling you on GG; it's just a matter of when. Or, at least, I'll do my part if you wait a month or two until I can make it back out. -

So, I'm feeling experimental and am ordering one of these Cronus Cross-Over dual-mod USB adapters instead of the dual mod pcb. It's advertised as having about 2.5 milliseconds of delay (a fraction of a frame), so it should be good for our games. I'm skeptical because there's not that much consensus in the FGC on it, save a few that swear by it and a bunch that complained about its initial price tag (which has since dropped 25%). But, hey, if this thing works, it's the easiest dual-mod solution ever, so we're going to have to test it out. GG: Zappa, but I've put a bit of time over the years into everyone except Potemkin, Johnny, Ky, Order Sol, and Chipp SG: Ms. Fortune solo BB: Haven't played since CS1, but I want to give Litchi (my old main) and the new characters a shot in the next version P4A: Just fucked around a bit with Yosuke (gliding is fuun) VSav: Hsien-Ko, Felicia... plus a bit of Saskquatch, Zombie, Fish and the succubi And then there's my Vega in AE, Elena in 3S, and Felicia+random select in Marvel, which some of the HQ and barfights people might remember better. You should refresh our memory, or at least mine before I start guessing wrong. -

It is pretty awesome. Go to one of the Algonquin meets if only to see dat tech. Edit: Wait, is Krackatoa a leftie? His hitbox had some complicated origin story about coming into being from him learning fighting games on keyboard IIRC. Ask me about my Kamehameha. -

PSN guy? Clearly he'll never earn the approval of HQ unless he gives up on Sony. Seriously, we'll be good to play on whatever console I'm sure. I'll have two dual-modded sticks, and Johnny's got a selection too. At worst, the Tekken guys compete for the PS3 and we displace one of the Capcom games from an Xbox (or I bring my own, which seems to happen a lot). Only problem arises if someone needs to play on something fancy like a left-handed hitbox, *cough* Krackatoa -

Essay's daily GG Training update: If you ever want to feel like you've conquered adversity, get the following techniques down with I-No... 1) j.D kara-FD-cancelled High-Jump Hops (191D~K+S... without ever bursting with D+K/S of course!) 2) Hover Dash cancelled into IAD (6[6]][956) 3) Falling j.Note > FRC > airdash > ambiguous cross-up (knockdown, 21478P 22 FRC 66... profit) 4) TK'd horizontal Chemical Love > FRC > airdash > combo (632149K 6FRC6 j.S... profit) I'm finally getting all of that consistent in training mode. Now, whether or not I can pull them off in a match, well, I'll have to wait and see. (Come on, body. Heal faster.) At least the AI in this game replicates the pace well enough.... At the very least, I want. The more the merrier, I say. -

Is someone able to point me towards a summary of these new BB characters' playstyles? Any of them have something extra to control on screen like Carl/Litchi/Zappa/Eddie/Bridget/Fortune? Also, I'll soon have a second dual-modded stick. I just ordered one of the last of these. -

Still no sign of Skullgirls patch on my Xbox. More time to focus exclusively on GG at least! Not sure why I had never played around with Robo-Ky. His meter building is kind of awkward, but if any of you ever let me land a Gold Burst with him, I swear you'll regret it. -

The thing that keeps me from playing I-No: always missing my HCL's while facing left. EDIT: That said, she's going to be worth learning with the +R buffs. -

Having access to a real Guilty Gear training mode, and free time to burn on it is bliss. Every character has fun things to learn. [cliché]I'm a fricken kid in a candy store right now.[/cliché] Heh, don't tell me you didn't notice my unbridled enthusiasm for every game BUT Mahvel at the HQ over the past month or so. Even when I sucked it up and played that game, understand I only did it for the butchered Darkstalkers. That said, it really is GG that I'm enthusiastic about over everything, which brings me to a big point Johnny, Devin and I were touching on before making this thread: (To be blunt) We should all try to at least play Guilt Gear. Now, coming from the mouth of FreezerB, Rigel or myself... yeah, there might be a bit of a bias. But it's justified, right? What I'm curious about is how others feel about using GG as a lynchpin, if only for the sake that it is useful for building "anime fundamentals". I'm as open as the next guy to BB (though I missed out on CS2 and Extend, I'm sure Ms. Litchi is still fuuun) and P4A (though I lost some of my motivation when I found out that there were already legions of Yosukes in central Ottawa). I'm dying too for the Xbox release of the Skullgirls patch and Darkstalkers Resurrection. Still, it's Guilty Gear that I see as having the most reward. And how do other Dustloop communities operate? I've been stranded in this effectively-tournamentless town for three straight years. You had better believe that I'm hungry for a roadtrip.... -

^ All the more reason we're piling into my car and travelling to a TO/MTL tournament once I'm fit to travel again. And hey, throw my XBL gamertag (Northofself) into post #2. My internet's trash right now, but that should be resolved in a few months. -

Just to be clear, are we trying to build an Arksys community or a Dustloop community? Because I specifically see Skullgirls and Vampire Savior featured on this site, and I am pretty damn hype about Darkstalkers Resurrection being released in 3 months. -
Wasn't the old PSP version widescreen? They just kept the same width horizontally, but reduced the vertical range?

I play her because she reminds me of Vanessa from Virtua Fighter (bear with me). Mainly it's the multiple "stances", which let me switch up my approach on the fly. But, most especially, both have great poking games too which I love to exploit. And, uh, half-circle motions. (?)

I originally came in as a Millia player, thinking that Tao would be my pick for combos and chains. I love her to death, but I couldn't get into her drive. So I looked to Litchi instead and liked what I found. The flow between her two modes kind of remind me of what I like so much about my Virtua Fighter main, Vanessa. Plus her story's great!! Ragna is my sub, which comes as a surprise. I usually don't like the poster-boys, but his voice acting is awesome and he just feels so 'solid'.
