Yeah sorry about the generalizing. I was feeling a little lazy. But this what I've found are good elaborations on Bang tactics: If you catch him trying to counter with his Drives, you can actually mash Tager's 5A and beat it, even if he vanishes behind you. Expect for his j.5D, I believe you can beat it with 2A though or the 5C -> 4D like Tofu said. I 've ever actually tried it like twice and it hit both times but I hardly see Bang players just throw this out randomly. As for dealing with Bang's 3C, it has a good start up but if they start it any good distance away from you, you'll see it coming and you can punish with a 360 of your choice. As for his j.5C and j.4B mix up game, you mainly just have to watch for when he attacks. If he tries to dash over you, odds are it will be a j.4B. Anywhere in front of you will be a j.5C. Now it is pretty hard to punish these attacks unless he gets predictable. A good Bang would make a habit of never doing the same thing twice. By that I mean that he won't always continue a block string after the j.5C or j.4B because if he always does that, you know that as soon as he lands, hes gonna try and continue and that would be a free 360A for you. Now one thing I do not remember is if an IB is necessary for either attack in order to counter with a 360A. One thing I do need help with is a clarification on Bang's nails. If he throws any style of them, are they any that hit you as an overhead? I'm pretty sure they don't but sometimes I wonder what exactly hit me, the nail or Bang's foot...
-
Is it just me or do most Bang players have the same battle plan? It always seems to be jump, IAD, possibly throw nails, either j.5C for an overhead, j.4B for crossup or j.5D for a counter. When playing footsies, they either try and counter with his Drives, counter with 3C or just try and snake they're way into a BnB off a mistake or an IB. Now I won't lie, Bang's priority is really good, I tend to have bad luck on wake up with him and I usually eat a BnB or 2 before I hit a good rythym. Is there anything else to really look out for?

While I do understand your point about keeping everything within obtainable limits to your workload, I must comment on one of your statements. Now you say there was a recent tournament in LA for TvC and only a small amount of players showed up. But one thing you must take into consideration is that the console version of the game literally came out last week tuesday. So odds are that by the time April comes around, a lot more console players will have the game and be willing to join something like a TvC tournament because they will actually know what they are doing. Because if most US players are like me, they never had access to the arcade version and was only able to watch videos and read up on information about the game until it was released on console. So that would be a hinderance to any players who did not have easy access to the game. Now that the console version has come out, there is a much higher chance of a bigger turnout for a TvC tournament because more players will be familiar not only with the logistics of the game's design, but players will also be familiar with actually playing the game, getting comfortable and learning to actually play well. Watching videos can only get someone so far without actually being able to play it. Just a mere rebuttal, I have no intention of making anyone do work than is possible. Just something to take into consideration when making any final decisions. -

Well my biggest problem with mirror matches is just the lack of variety. Frankly, I don't mind mirror matches with other Tagers. I've played against Renegade's Tager many times with my own and its always fun. Its just that it would be some nice to some other characters played for a team Tournament like this. I expect there to be at least some mirror matches given the strange number of Tager and Haku players but also same character teams would cause a lack of strategizing for other teams. It would just be play against the same character twice with slightly different styles. About the Tournament, would the teams be able to pick who goes first and second for each match? or would it be decided before the whole thing starts and then its set in stone? -

Who were the new characters? If Zero is one of those, I'd be screwed on the arcade version. I only use my team of Zero/Karas and the only others I can even remotely use are Ryu and Morrigan due to them being basically like MvC2 with some exceptions. -

I think same charachter teams shouldn't be allowed just for the sake of keeping things interesting. Can you imagine a matchup between 2 Tagers and 2 Hakus? That isn't even a ludicrous possibility either given that there are many Tager and Haku players that go to SVGL. -

Actually I like qwerty's idea of random teams. It would add a little variety to the matchups. Although I have no clue how Pokemon or Waseda styles work... -

Sorry for being off topic but is there an Arcade version of Tatsunoko vs Capcom? I assume so give that it is a successor to MvC2 in some sense. I never even knew of the games existance until they announced the US console release. -

2v2s? Awesome. I wouldn't mind playing in something like that. At least then if I find the right partner, they can cover the bad matchups Tager has...I'll be there! -

I agree with Tron, adding in Tatsunoko vs Capcom would open up the doors for another group of gamers to get in and enjoy themselves. I may have only had TvC for all of 5 days but I'm already learning so much about the game that I would love to test my mettle with others. I'm sure there are others who would love the same thing. That and it would be a good competitive setting to use instead of WiFi cause that is just awful a majority of the time. I've played 10 online matches and all of them had bad lag. I swear the only game that i've seen on the Wii that has consistenly good connections all the time is Mario Kart. Everything else has problems half the time. -

Wow if CS AND Tatsunoko Vs Capcom got put into this, I'm going. I'll even give people rides if they need them from near NorCal. Well, I'll give a few people a ride given they don't mind cramming in an '03 Mustang GT and helping with gas a little. -

Man the hype during the first few rounds was insane. I was going deaf! I don't mind a good audience cheering the players on, but man, that may have gotten just a bit excessive. But the Haku mirror match was the best! too much poking and pretty much no countering! And of course every time one of them did use a poke, everyone yelled... -
I'm used to seeing the typical crazy MvC2 God teams but I still can't get over how fast they're hands are moving. Thats always been crazy to listen and see. Every time I see two really good MvC2 players, the noises they're making on the sticks just reminds me of playing SSBM back in high school. SSBM made the controller the loudest things in the world with every joy stick movement snapping back and everyone slamming on the L button to either dodge or L cancel. Oh man those were they days... Too bad I couldn't vote though. I signed up for SRK the day after the poll started. I would've put my vote in for MvC2 honestly even though I'm only an average level player. Its still fun to mess with everyone's gameplans by throwing a random Jin AA assist.

Someone recorded a majority of the matches. they got the matches from the first 2 rounds and then they recorded the semifinals and the finals I believe. I know they got the finals. Actually, if my memory is right, PhaethonH was the one who recorded everything. Must be him, he was the only Carl player there. @PhaethonH, if you feel like changing it, I'm James. The Tager who got 7th. So if you want to switch out the names, go for it. I don't mind either way. -
Yeah actually that makes sense now that I think about it. I remember trying to pull Litchi out of the move where she jumps to her staff and throws it at the enemy and her action prevented my AC from pulling her in because its the nature of her attack. Same goes for Hazama apperently. But I do know that anytime Hazama is in the air and he isn't in the process of throwing his chains, he can be pulled in by AC. If I remember right, anytime his chain is not out, its possible to pull him while he is in the air.
-
I haven't played any real aggressive Hazama users yet so I really only know of that one BnB combo he has involving his mashed C attacks I believe (correct me if I'm wrong). But whenever I play against Hazama, its a very hit and run game he plays generally. D drive to latch on, if he gets a CH, he'll fly in and get a few hits and any viable combos from it and then flys right back out of there. So I've determined 2 ways to play to force Hazama to act. First: Turtle like theres no tomorrow and try and bait a punishable approach. Farm a Spark Bolt and see if you can get a clean shot because if you have more health, you can play defensively and MAKE Hazama get in close which is where he has trouble against Tager. Second idea is to get in his face by means of doing Sledge through his drives and trying to get in at him. If you can get close, Hazama is now out of his element and all you really have to weary of are his low and high attacks off D stance and his CH super. throw in a hard pressure game, Hazama should be stuck for a good while unless he tries to use his drive to fly away from you. oh and I just thought of something, get him magnetized! If Hazama is magnetized, it forces him to stay on the ground for fear of getting roped in by AC and if hes magnetized and you can bait him to reel in close to you, 360 and 720 options become available too.
-
Yeah I tested that out a little today. I noticed that the sword does not count as part of his hitbox and you are just hitting his extending arm. But I found 2 problems with this situation. First, the timing is partially based on luck from what I can tell. If you try and CH it when you see his elbow stick out, Haku will stuff Tager's 4D cause his palm doesn't come up fast enough. You practically have to do it at the same time. Second, you have to actually be close enough for Tager's palm to connect with Haku's arm or else Haku will he get a free CH on you. I didn't try out the 360A idea though because I kinda forgot...haha. So next time I have the chance, I'm gonna test out the timing on the 360A and I'll try the jump mix up idea Henaki threw in.
-
What are good follow up options for a CH 4D? Only real reliable option I've gotten so far is 5C->6A->AC and so on and so forth. Even then, if you're in the corner and you get the CH, they won't bounce back far enough for you to hit them and since you can't cancel into B Sledge from it, I can't think of any other options. Only other ones I could see would either be AC if you could cancel into it or maybe MTW...not sure. I need to test some stuff out next time I get the game to myself.
-
Oh alright I'll keep those in mind. Thanks a lot Mike and Leo.
-
Wow 4D and 360A both beat his 4C? I never even thought of that. I guess I assumed his sword didn't act as an extension of his hitbox for those. I'll have to test that next time me and one of my friends get a chance to practice. Any advice for his air poke? or should you just play footsies the whole match?? I remember j.5D beat out his poke once or twice but the timing is really tight given how quick Hakumen slashes.
-
Any tips for dealing with Hakumen players who literally will do nothing more than his new pokes??? I got stuck in a match today and I just could not think of anything to do except stall for Spark Bolt and hope for the best...

I think a good fighter mentality is aggressive by nature. The willingness to go balls out and kick some ass stands as intimidating. i've always thrown people off by just jumping in someone's face with Tager and just bashing on them instead of back dashing and turtling like I see many Tagers do. To me, I see Tager as a big ass tank and should just run in and beat the crap out of some stupid Nu or Noel who think its an easy win. Its a high risk game, but the rewards are all the sweeter for it. Remaining calm is essential as well. I've seen too many people just rage and panic when they're near dead and they just mash hoping something happens. This is when most people would forget proper openings in enemy comboes or anything like that. I've even done it once or twice but it takes a really close game to get me to do that. I won't lie, I have caught myself just trying to whip a 720C out of nowhere cause I was about to lose. Same goes for barrier bursts; you can't just do them randomly and hope for the best, you have to wait for the perfect time during an enemy's combo to burst and retaliate effective or else you just waste it.

When do you usually go? I've got classes starting up on monday but i'm still gonna be going at least a few times a week. Hell i'll probably be there tomorrow a little after lunch time so I suppose I could try and learn some new combos on the fly in the midst of a challenge. -

I'm trying to work in the new combos. The old ones are just out of habit. I'm trying to get used to doing AC on command outside of combos to play more mind games. I gotta learn to do the AC pull in to 6B i've seen you do a few times. Thats just too badass to not learn. So give me 2 days and I should have a new combo or 2 to mess around with. I learn quickly so I should right up to your level in a week or so. I gotta learn Ragna some more too. I really only know one good combo and i'm awful at setting it up... and its always been 110 credits for $20. the only promotional things I can think of is Wednesday is Arcade Mania. $12 for Unlimited credits the entire day. and they're nice and you can pay $6 for a half day of unlimited credits. you just pick which half of the day you want and you're set. -

haha good stuff. Sorry for having to leave that last match I was playing you in. little family emergency I had to attend to. but i'll be back many times I'm sure. so we'll have our rematch next time we see each other. Hope I never have to play your Lambda though...I still have nightmares of how annoying Nu was since I main Tager. I actually only subbed Ragna so I had someone faster to play against Nu. Even then, my Ragna is still lacking a lot. I can combo easy enough, but defensively, I'm god awful with pretty much everyone. I play really aggressively in all fighting games. I just don't have fun unless I'm in everyone's face! And as for your main character dilemma, your Tager and Ragna are both pretty beastly. It took a lot of luck to get you those 2 times. so either of them would be solid choices.
