  1. Updating Baiken combos. New thread placeholder.
  2. Yo, that's like the other side of NJ. I'm like north jersey, like right across from NYC
  3. That's about an hour south of where I am currently. I think there are some people down in central Jersey who play BB, they're mostly around the shore though.
  4. Would you recommend anyone in particular that I follow?
  5. Ah cool, what days are you usually free?
  6. Recently just moved up to Hudson county NJ. Are there any players from around that area that play XRD?I also play P4U. EDIT: The days I'm most available would be sunday/monday.
  7. Link for CH 6A ODC combo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYT7dj7oypE#t=4m47s Edit: I don't know all of amane's moves so I'm not entirely sure if my notations are correct, so please correct me if I'm wrong. CH 3C>2B>5B(2)>5C(2)>6C(2)>236A/B>JC(1)>J6C(2)>J.236C DMG:2970 Heat: N/A (amane was at 100 Heat during the start of the combo) Optional: RC the last hit of J.236C then use 6D for drill meter/damage. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbL8xSLZj5k#t=5m09s Double edit: More from the same video. A slight variation on an existing combo, though this is more of a setup rather than an actual combo. CH 3C > 2B > 5B(2) > 5C > 6C(1) > 236D~D > 2B > 5B(2). (Opponent techs) 6D. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbL8xSLZj5k#t=5m50s Not entirely sure if it REQUIRES lvl3 drill but it's decent damage for the starter and pushes the opponent further away. (Level 3 Drill )CH JA > JB> jc > JB(2) >JD(Level3) > J236C DMG:2201 Heat Gain: 15 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbL8xSLZj5k#t=7m06s
  8. Dustloop account name: The09er XBL Gamertag: OrphanFight Character: Yu Narukami State: Jackson, NJ Thats doable.
  9. If his new counter assault is 6B instead of throw, does that mean we can do counter assault>FofG?
  10. Been doing this combo off of air throw tested on yu. AT(3rd hit)>OMC>land>dash>2A,2B,2C, j.BB, j.2B, dj.B, air kunai [optional garudyne]. Notes: There are two places where you can cancel the combo. On the 2nd hit it will leave you in the air and slightly higher than the opponent and deals a miserable amount of damage (500-810 or something, I'll write down the actual numbers when I wake up and get a pen/paper) or the 3rd hit which imo is ideal since it leaves the opponent in the air, with a good amount of untechable timing and deals 1300 dmg. I don't know if cancelling at the 2nd or the 3rd hit leaves you with a better poration but I was unable to land j.236A series from cancelling at the 2nd hit or the 3rd hit. I'm pretty sure that you can do more damage if you replace the OMC with a OMB and just use 2C as your pickup. I haven't tested it but I'll come back with results. I go for AT usually after EX air kunai or after 236A~Kunai. After a normal 236A~kunai you can rush under your opponent and stagger 5A into 2B so that it will be an air unblockable or stagger 5A then jump into AT. Just a quick note, if you're going to try to stagger 5A into 2B you need to actually stagger it so they aren't in hitstun for a second, it seems like opponents can block air unblockables if the blockstring starts with a move that is airblockable and the string is a true string.
  11. I'm down for this. I could use all the practice I can and having a scheduled time I can kick other people off the internet in the house so my lag is minimal. 1) IRC channel - I don't like using a microphone and xbox parties can get cluttered while dustloop forums tend to be a bit slower than messaging in real time. There is no reason not to use IRC since there is a web-based client. 2) Fri-Sat is good, though honestly any day besides monday is fine by me. If we do it early enough in the evening like at 6-8pm EST that would be great also. Though it would probably be better if we avoided a day/week where there are a lot of events. 3) I'm fine with allowing everyone as long as everyone isn't some ridiculous number. 4) While I'm indifferent to what we end up using I would lean towards rewarding players for doing GOOD rather than showing up. Try and have a decent representation of player strength here. 5) Forfeit the match - Lets keep things moving and act like this is an actual tourney. I'm all for doing a rematch in the case of a bruised ego, but do it after the tourney.
  12. What I meant by respecting 5C>2C is they aren't mashing out of 5C since 2C has super armor. By doing 5C/2C > J.D thanatos will grab people trying to hold up.
  13. When pressuring opponents with thanatos you can end your pressure in J.D to catch jump outs, this is especially useful for characters that don't have an r-action like mitsuru or yu (ones that actually act like DPs) and have been taught to respect 5C>2C so they aren't mashing 5/2A. Liz's R-action at 150SP will confuse opponents, most opponents will either focus on blocking on use an R-action post-confuse, depending on the opponent I will either run up > throw or try to bait a reversal. I'm not sure if this was an online only thing/bad timing but [at fullscreen] j.c knockdown > SB.agi has been blown up by yu's IK. He has massive amount of startup invulnerability and the move connected before I could block/jump out.
  14. Thanks for the info, I'll be updating asap.
  15. Yeah sure, I'll keep this up. Really the honor is all mine though, I do enjoy contributing as much as I can. If you could, please link the tutorial on how to rip things from nicovid and if you would be kind enough maybe point me in some direction when I go to nicovid, like some channel names, places where they stream tourneys etc. I just need a shove in the right direction and I can take it from there.
  16. Alright, I'll get to work on it later today. I'll start with jourdal's vids then work my way to pktzn's. I generally use nicovideo redirector to make it easier but I do have a nicovideo account myself however I barely use it and don't know any arakune channels myself. Any info would be great. Expect to see some progress around 3:00 PM EST. EDIT: Yeah, if I'm going to post something like a GG's video with souji or fumo I'll add the timestamp and the name of the person/event(if it's a major one like god's garden or an invitational and if I can tell the name of the person, however player names will probably be the LAST thing I do, getting videos is a bigger priority)
  17. I know we have a video critique thread, but we're missing a "video matchup/compilation thread" like most other character threads have. I decided to be a tad proactive and create one that will be a bit more organized and updated as time goes by. If you would like to see something added or if you have a video that you want posted here please PM me/post on this thread. Be warned, I may post double videos, since I am going to just grab videos from youtube, post them, and edit later. For now I am not going to tag any videos uploaded as new or not, the list is still very fresh. However, after maybe a week or two I will start tagging videos that I have added, they will stay tagged with the date they were added for week. This is just to let people what videos are new so they don't have to sort through dozens of links and match videos to find new content. Update List: 3/13/2012 2:12 EST:Creation/Format building. Videos are mainly pulled from Adakune's channel, if some are left blank they will be updated later with more videos, I would like to see if this page sticks before adding more to it. 3/14/2012 - 11:06 EST: Adding Videos From jourdal's channel, added a "vs. :VA:" section" 3/14/2012 -11:45 EST: Saving Progress - will add a format to matchup names later in the form of "arakune player vs. opponent", double checking links for accuracy/broken-links 3/14/2012 - 12:21 EST: Saving Progress - Finished copying links from jourdal's first page of arakune related videos, however I had a problem going to his second page. I searched "arakune" under his channel videos, it gave me two pages of videos however when I clicked on the second page it brought me to all his videos. For the time being I will just copy pktzn1213's videos until I can find a remedy to this problem. 3/14/2012 - 1:32 EST: Running into the same problem I had on jourdal's youtube that I did on pktazn's however I have linked both channel's content, surprisingly no makoto/plat/mirrors. I'll be adding some american/canadian vids, and I'll be updating when jourdal/pktazn upload arakune videos or when I rip from nico. Also when doing timestamped videos, it's my preference to actually timestamp the video a couple of seconds before the match starts, so you can leave a little of buffering time. So you may see arakune videos where it starts with the end of a hazama/mu match or the start of a button check, let me know if you prefer that or if it annoys you. Changing it will take all of five minutes on my end to make sure the entire arakune community gets a pleasant viewing experience. Youtube channel of potential interest - Adakune, he hasn't uploaded in a while, however he does specifically upload arakune videos. Link of potential interest - Nicovideo Redirector, easier than signing up for a nicovideo account. 18. Somethings I've taken away from my matches with various ragnas: Be incredibly careful when and where you place clouds/6D, good ragnas will just rtsd and duck right under them and pressure you. Some really like to be DP-happy, that's fine let them dp you once or twice from a 5A, 6A block string, then bait them by ending your blockstring with 5B/2B or jump barrier block, when they DP then fatal counter them. Other than that be careful of his run speed, 5B, 2C CH, 6B. He's still ragna and his mixups are still ragna-esque, he just does more damage.
  19. I myself don't have a lot of tsubaki experience, I'll leave this here from the tsubaki forum though and maybe it will spark some insight.
  20. Taken from the lambda thread (I'm going to do this for the characters that have threads which have arakune posts, I apologize if I post too much today, I actually have a lot more free time than I'm used to due to spring break)
  21. Played a bunch of player matches against a couple of hazamas last night. I don't know whether the fight is easier for arakune or whether haz has to work harder in extend, probably a mixture of both, however it still feels like haz has the upper hand. Things hindering haz in extend in regards to arakune: command grab lost strike invulnerability, ouroboros will only regenerate on the ground or when hitting an opponent(not blocking), Ouroboros' hit stun reduced, 6C repeat move poration. Things haz gained in Extend to help him fight arakune: 214D~B has corner blowback allowing for combos, 214D~B charged knocks haz back on block making it hard to punish, B followup to ouroboros will allow haz to attack sooner. Tools haz has in general to fight arakune: Ouroboros/snake chain(drive) - Can be shot out in several directions, counts as a projectile and has several followups: can retract, make hazama swing to the "head" of the snake in an arc (used to avoid anti-airs), can go straight to the head of the snake, or fling himself to the head and keep going. This is the meat and potatoes part 1 of haz gameplay, if he sees you setting up a cloud haz will poke you with this so your cloud disappears, he will poke 6D or he will poke you for a combo or mixup. 214D~B: Jasetsu-Gashoukyaku: Flash kick/pseudo reversal - Really good anti air and leads into major damage on CH or in the corner. Level 2 CH will fatal counter and level 2 can combo into Jakou(DP chain grab) 623D: Jakou: DP chain grab - It just so happens that this tends to reach where a lot of arakunes like to float and it's air unblockable, however despite it's appearance it is not a grab. Air throw: Yes, his air throw. It leads into a lot of meter gain and a substantial amount of damage, be very wise not to mash against haz, he will be throwing you a lot in an attempt to get meter(meat and potatoes part 2 of haz gameplay). 236C: Command grab: As arakunes we instinctively block, a lot, which is why you will see us fall for bang/haz command grabs more than usual. They may be porated to all hell but if it's free damage, they'll take it. Watch for purple throws and tick throw setups, they will go for it after a long block string. What arakune has: 2B: It low profiles a decent amount of haz's chain jump in's and can lead to at least 5D, I really never experimented that much with it. 5C: Really risky anti air but it can catch terrible jump ins, use at your own risk. Teleports: Keep him guessing where you actually are and where your actual trajectory is going to be, your best bet is to make it look as natural as possible. Don't use neutral jump teleport if you don't neutral jump a lot. Instant Block -> 5A->6B: This punish works really well against this commons haz block string: 2A,5B,5C,214D~A and variants. Generally you can instant block the move before 214D~A and you can punish 214D~A.
  22. Foreword: I apologize for posting a lot in these threads in a short amount of time, it seems like no one is using them but they're here and I figure that I'll either spark some conversation or add some insight. I'd hate to see these go to waste like they did in CS2. Her mid screen damage definitely has received a nerf, but she can still corner carry off of almost any random staff hit and her corner damage and oki are still very litchi-esque, as are her staff normals which present a problem to arakune's zoning. It's an incredible up-hill battle and it depends a lot on patience and watching what litchi is doing/what she is setting up to do and how to react to it. Generally she will harass you from full screen by flinging her staff at you if you try to set up clouds/j.D or 6D. If you take to the air she will chase you down with j.C[m] (wall bounds on counter hit). If you approach her air to ground with j.4B she will attempt either 2C/2C[m]/DP/j.C[m]. All of the aforementioned can lead into major damage and corner carries save for a non-RC'd DP (iirc). If you block her DP its a free fatal counter 2C, since the pushback is large enough to make 5C either whiff or make it harder to do dive loops afterwards, either way I personally find 2C fatal counter after blocked DP better. I know this goes for most characters but litchi is insane in the corner, against a good player you cannot/will not get out. Save your bursts until then or gold burst if you can guarantee a curse combo that will kill her. When it comes to pre-curse combos and litchi, I generally like to end my meter with combos that leave me in her face, since she could probably out range me if I have 100% curse and I ended my combo with 5a-6B-j.d/fog. Try to fill your curse gauge with 5D/j5D/6D since they will leave you in good positioning to apply pressure. One final thing: Since arc nerfed daisharin litchi players are using it as a neutral tool now, be aware of this.
  23. I'm honestly confused on this match. I feel like rushing him down IS the best option but his normals are actually really good and cover his space really well, however if I take the zoning approach I get Ignis who messes with my setups and she amplifies everything that I didn't like about relius already. Don't get me wrong the match isn't impossible, I just walk away from the matches I win or lose feeling like I never learned anything from it and feeling sloppy about it.
  24. I can't recall where I read this, I think it was in an earlier CS/2 post but in theory and according to frame data this should should work now also: close range air to air your best option against jin is probably j.A. They both have a 7 frame startup however jin's is active longer and has better recovery, though arakune's has longer range(correct me if I'm wrong) and will stuff at close range jin's other air to air options since jin's j.b/c have 10 frame startup, j.2C has a 12 frame startup and j.D has a 16 frame startup. Otherwise attempting an airthrow close range will beat out jin's normal air options at close range also, since airthrow has a 7 frame startup and even if he techs it you're reset back to neutral which is still favorable. A thing on oki: It doesn't hurt to roll midscreen if jin doesn't have meter. He can't get that much damage and his good corner carries/damage midscreen rely on 6B/2C starter or having 25 heat to freeze an opponent and push them to the corner and combo. One thing I really haven't tried out is finding how far I can punish a blocked icecar since I rarely get the opportunity with the jins I play against offline. Instinctively I attempt 5A-6B, but sometimes 5A will whiff even on IB. Things to note about yukikaze: It has mix/high guard points during the guard point animation so bugs will hit it, and you will be caught in the super if you are near it much like hakumen's drive. However you can avoid the followups by superjumping, yes followups. Super anime-style sword swing and the sheathing of the sword, both can fatal counter. Yukikaze is active after one frame, it's great for catching frame traps or false blockstrings such as 5a, 6a. Just something to watch out for.
  25. After a couple of days of matches with a local plat player: Synopsis: The items that plat uses really determines how you have to play the match, I don't know all the changes the items have but there are a few that really influence the match. I'll list all the items here and my impressions on how they influence the match. Baseball Bat - Arguably the best "dp" in the game, you can block while doing this and it is invincible the from startup and it can be used in combos. It can either trade or outright beat j.4B. Be cautious when approaching plat when she has this equipped, attempt to bait her out by doing a falling barrier block. Baseball bat is air unblockable. Magic(cat) Missile - Annoying cat-faced projectile. Can be done in the air. Starts off slowly and increases in speed much like jin's 236C Ice sword. Discarding this item via 214D shoots off three missles aligned in a wall that will combo twice but the third is teachable. If plat has this item, be cautious in your horizontal approach, j.D will trade with cat missiles from full screen and plat will recover in time while the missiles are approaching just as you teched. If you have 50 meter feel free to f of g plat carelessly throwing cat missiles. Super Cat Missles - Gigantic Cat Missles that are the height of an average character and take up 1/2 screen. Can be done in the air, not air unblockable if discarded they will fire off sequentially and will combo into each other. If plat has these, take to the sky and harass her from there or make an attempt to make her waste her missiles, they are air blockable and they are easily IB. These control a lot of arakune's movement along with the next item. Cat bombs - smiling cat bombs, fired in a 45 degree angle and follow a parabolic arc these present some of the best space control against arakune. If discarded they fire three bombs in the same arc. These really suck since not only because of the space it controls but because of the amount it has opposed to the missles or other space controlling items. Cat bombs come out once the startup animation completes, so j.D will trade. I haven't found a decent way around these, I tend to make her waste the item or rush her down until she does. Something to note - Air cat bombs will be active until contact whereas cat bombs on the ground will explode in the air. Super bombs are larger and do more damage. Cat staff - More of annoyance than an actual threat. It's a large staff that meows when swung, not an overhead, easy to IB, -9 on block but it's range makes it nonpunishable from max range. One thing to note, it does ground on hit, not much of a change between normal and super other than hitbox. Discarding it is more useful against arakune since it lobs the actual cat hammer at a 60 degree angle similar to lamda's 2D. Frying pan - Grounded version will make the opponent spin on hit, whereas air version will ground bounce, no landing recovery and is an overhead. The normal versions are unsafe on block whereas the super versions are -3 on the ground and -1 in the air. If discarded they will shoot the frying pan in the same trajectory as the cat hammer. Frying pan is mainly used for combo filler, however be cautious of platinum discarding it for a new item if you are laying a cloud during a super jump. Piko Hammer - breaks two primers, used as combo filler/loops, grounds opponent with no emergency tech. If discarded plat will lob the hammer similar to cat staff. Rarely does plat discard this since it's combo/damage potential is really high. Super version will break two primers but if it doesn't connect it will cause a quake effect similar to potemkin's slide head, an unblockable full-screen grounded projectile with no emergency tech. Piko hammer also allows for unblockable setups. This is the item that plat is the most deadly with imo, play hit and run until she has to switch items to something more favorable in your matchup. Things I noticed: Not much to go by, I could kinda autopilot curse since the plat player didn't have lot of arakune experience. However his plat was on point and I felt that Arakune is still pretty strong in this match, just watch whats going on with plat's items and be aware of what she can do with each and the match will be a lot easier. She doesn't have the ability to do her old pressure like xie used to do but she can hold her own.
