Arguably, fighting style should be the most important, but if you're attached to your character like Luna is, you'll put more effort in, and possibly get better faster than those who might not care for their character. But yeah, I think you highlighted the main three (personality, looks, fighting style) that affect most people's main choices.

Since we're all discussing our experience with fighters and such... When I first played BlazBlue, it was over at a friend's house, and I was mashing random, and picked Noel when one of the better players picked Jin or Arakune. Had enough fun that day to keep the hype going until Christmas. Later found out Noel's personality, after playing through her story mode... just couldn't play her anymore. The personality, goals, and values of a character affects how much I want to play them. If I don't like my character, it's like "Why am I even playing this character?". Though I don't particularly care for A.B.A either, so it can be overridden, I guess.

Showing lack of hype for half the cast... ...like the rest of the characters are boring or something.

This sounds like a good idea, with the back containing some of the below. ...provided we're getting both a front and back. Edit: Not a good sign that I'm filtering through the CS2 matches based on which characters are playing...
