Most of the reaction toward Daigo was probably standard nationalistic bullshit, sure. For at least a few people it's about more than that, though. There's a perception among some players that Daigo gets a lot of special treatment, and that leads them to strongly root against him. Arturo talked about this a bit on the stream, but there's more than just (allegedly) not wanting to play on the stream. I think it's a lot of conspiracy theory myself, but I'll try to at least explain where they're coming from... Remember that, in Evo2k9, he got a bye all the way past pools for no reason other than "he's Daigo". Other players had to win national or at least regional tournaments to get those seeds; the only comparable tournament Daigo had won at that point was an SBO qualifier, and other SBO qualifiers didn't get auto-seeded. And it wasn't because he was a strong international player, either - so was Dan, and he still had to go through pools. On top of that, Daigo had far and away the easiest bracket of anybody in the top 8. The strongest players he had to get through were UTJ (whom he destroyed) and that random Hong Kong Chun who almost beat him. Meanwhile, Dan had to win his pool and play Sin, Dr. Chaos, and Combofiend to make top 8. PR Rog had to win his pool and beat Floe + Valle + Marn. And so on. In this year's Evo, they thankfully stopped giving byes past pools. However, Daigo still had an easier path to top 8 than the majority, with one of the softer pools and Lamerboi as his only close fight. Doesn't compare to Mike Ross's bracket, but about on par with Henry Cen's. Combine all of this with the never-ending hype of Daigo, people calling him the greatest of all time (when he hasn't clearly been the best in Japan in a game since early Alpha 3), and so forth, and it shouldn't be too hard to understand why people would think Evo would try to protect him. I don't believe that one bit myself, but it makes some sense that others would. Justin gets a lot of this same hate for a lot of the same reasons, FYI. If someone's heavily marketed, there's going to be a backlash against him and people will delight in his every failure. Happens every time, whether it's Justin & Daigo or Peyton Manning & Tom Brady.

good shit to BB/GG placers. where SH & mac at? spooky tried to stream every game, the fanboys just became too much for him. BB/GG got it better than some other games, reminder that there was a $50 arcade ST tournament that had part of 1 game streamed. also lmfao @ "disrespect", that's how it always goes in big competitive events. you're telling me none of you have ever seen that football game where the marching band ran onto the field while the game was still going on, or any of the million crazy things soccer fans have done? the hype & attitude around daigo matches was nothing compared to the shit that pro athletes have to deal with on a regular basis. still, fuck marn. so glad dieminion got him, he was saying all kinds of shit about europe.

SBO 2010 Results and Discussion Thread
Josh Ballard replied to Spirit Juice's topic in Tournament Results
what i searched and found some vague references (to taunting maybe?) but nothing specific, now im kinda curious -
Mac I'll cover your entry dude. Seriously. Slayerworld needs to be in there! Also just a heads up, it looks like Bar Battles could be moving to Momo's. Would definitely have the space to run GG and whatever else people want if it happens. =)

hi from columbus fuck fgs. except maybe mvc3 that actually look fun right now? also i just uncovered a deep dark secret... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZaH98rp3N0c kamui. how did you manage to hide your place at the top of the japanese fg god pyramid so well? well now THE JIG IS UP BUSTER

mystic quest > most real FFs, deal w/ it it's a nice game to speedrun, short for an RPG and not too complex + it has some cool tricks people don't know about. anyway, stream is starting in a couple mins!
-
happy birthday, my Friend. :toot: give us a celebratory drunkpost, or better yet get in my stream 2night (starting @ 9 or so) and do whatever there!!!!!!!!
-
yall should probably stop asking for GG. they didn't even include it in the poll and multiple other games are fighting harder for spots. also, i'll be kinda surprised if CS doesn't drop soon enough. i thought the leak might have pressured them into it, kinda like how rainbow edition made capcom rush out hyper fighting

I'm strongly with the majority opinion on this, and I say that as someone who lives in an area with no arcade CS and not many BB players period. As a competitive game, CT is on the level of Tekken 4, and the community largely stopped caring about it after 2 months or so. It still drew good turnouts at majors, but only a small handful were really playing it outside of tournaments. Melty Blood, CvS2, even PS3 Marvel/SC4/3s teams would all be better choices. Every one of those games has more hype and more players who care about them than CT does. End of story.

NORTHEAST CHAMPIONSHIP (NECX) Dec 5th & 6th-- IN PHILADELPHIA PA
Josh Ballard replied to eric's topic in Archive
how come nobody ever once mentioned TJ in that whole stupid johnny of america discussion -
Dustloop by and large is not a competitive community, and I think the only thing that could maybe change this is BBCS being good enough to make everyone care. The match experience issue really kept US Guilty Gear from getting as serious as SF/Tekken/etc, and online (even w/ mediocre BB netcode) is a huge help for that. Guilty Gear isn't going to grow because it's a hard game at a time where every big fighter has gone easy-mode, simple as that. I'd be happy with Slash & AC making it onto GGPO, but that probably won't happen for a long time. =/

Request for a General Discussion
Josh Ballard replied to Valentine's topic in Site Feedback and Suggestions
every "general" discussion forum on the internet is like exactly the same and they're all terrible however, i would be all for one if i had trolling immunity -
Basically any game with good netcode is using GGPO or an imitation of it. 2DF, HD Remix, and Marvel are examples of the latter, and even those are all slightly inferior to the real thing for various reasons: 2DF has a touch more input delay in general and doesn't have any delay correction for CPS3 games (e.g. 3s, Jojo's), and HDR/Marvel are much worse at handling long-distance connections than GGPO is. Blazblue and VF5 have the best non-GGPO netcode of anything out there, but they aren't on par with anything mentioned above. Unfortunately, Japanese devs always say they'll use GGPO then back out for various bullshit reasons...I suspect they don't want to step on the arcade industry's toes. Remember, HDR and Marvel were American projects, and we don't really have an arcade industry to worry about!

lol well i kinda want to try whichever version of kouma has actual air combos

You really shouldn't 5D all that often. Pay close attention to his sprite if you want to use it. A very good Hakumen isn't going to IAD too much - instead, expect lots of super jumps with barrier guard. As such, you have to approach this match with a mindset of wearing down his barrier gauge and chipping him, winning by time if necessary. And, of course, be extremely careful with 5D and 4D when he has a super available...

To anyone asking why people keep talking about a patch, there have been rumors floating around for a little while now that they will release an update later this year. Frequent patches/upgrades have become the norm with arcade fighting games anymore, and they are instantly adopted upon release. Arcana Heart Full was released in the middle of SBO qualifiers, and it immediately replaced the original version in the tournament. An even more dramatic example is VF5R, which came out only a couple weeks before SBO and was used in place of vanilla VF5 anyway. Smash players probably aren't aware of this since their games are console-exclusive and lack the online structure of XBL or PSN, but it's been the state of affairs for a while now.

izu in 3rd strike, 1st year of sbo. last year's winning team was more upper-mid than top of japan also. makoto is basically the perfect character for 1 game team KOF in sf4 was kinda random too, did gosho ever do shit in this game before? and again, rufus & viper are perfect fits for 1 game. kubo not even making top 8 in fate or tvc, i know that isn't teams but still arizona cardinals in the super bowl, that's 1 game single-elim ya know but ANYWAY! eric let's play tonight and follow the updates
