Matchup Ranking - Advantage Noel. Still an annoying match-up tho'.
Recommended Playstyle - Smart but aggressive.
The strategy you're going to want to go with in this match is primarily aggressive, but also considerably cautious. Platinum is, by all intents and purposes, a random character and no two matches against her will be entirely the same due to the nature of her Drive mechanic. You can easily go several matches straight up against her and not encounter a specific weapon even once. Other times you'll have to change up your approach on the fly due to her getting a variety of them in a short time.
That said, you should be knowledgeable of the properties of every single one of her different weapons because all of them, when used effectively, can be frustrating to deal with.
General Strategy - At the start of every Rebel, much like the Platinum player you're facing, you need to pay attention to what weapon Platinum will be able to equip. Subsequently, as the Rebel goes on, you're going to want to pay attention to what weapon appears next and how many uses she has left on her current one.
Playing the match-up well constitutes as reacting appropriately to the weapon that Platinum has equipped taking advantage of her limited options on wake-up and while being pressured. If she doesn't get a chance to use her weapons, she loses. Simple as that.
Noel vs. Cat
Platinum's Cat is a fast, long range poke that hits overhead when used in the air. Occasionally it'll be used as an ender for combos Platinum can't pick up given the situation. It usually isn't something to worry about too much, but like any of Platinum's weapons, it's something to be wary of.Note that it whiffs entirely if Noel is too close. Punish an improperly spaced Cat accordingly.
Platinum can use Cat to stall in the air for an extended amount of time in combination with Swallow Moon.
Noel vs. Hammer
Arguably the scariest weapon match-up for Noel. Ms. Vermillion is known for her unwavering high damage output these days, but Platinum is no slouch either in the damage department. Depending on your distance to the corner and whether or not Platinum has meter, she can seriously put on the hurt.
In the instance where Platinum has Hammer, she's going to want to rush you down and deal the damage accessible to her with it. She's not that bad on offense either considering her solid normals, great 5A, TK Swallow Moon (j.236C) mix-up and Dramatic Sammy. Standing Hammer is neutral on block loves eating Guard Primer; something Noel doesn't have very much of. Watch out for guard crushes.
Noel vs. Bat
See 'Has a DP?' section for more information.
Noel vs. Pan
Platinum's Pan is something that won't be thrown out too much outside of combos, but you should be cautious of its combo extension properties and her ability to stall with it much like her Cat.
In pressure strings, jumping Pan can be used repeatedly and hits overhead, so even if you block the initial one, take care that Platinum doesn't hit you the second (or possibly third) time with it as it leads into a combo.
Noel vs. Bombs
One of Platinum's many zoning tools. Each bomb comes out at an arc, hits multiple times and does a good amount of chip damage, so watch out. With Mystique Momo (214D), she's able to throw up to three bombs out at one time.
Noel vs. Missiles
In a lot of ways theses are better bombs. Platinum's missiles travel straight horizontally, hit multiple times on contact and all three of them can be fired at the same time with the help of Mystique Momo.
Your Best Tools - Optic Barrel, 5D, 2D and Counter Assault
Optic Barrel - Noel's 236A/B/C
Proper spacing will allow you to hit Platinum while she is in the middle of something, buying you time to get in and apply pressure up close.
5D
Still useful for going through various things. Platinum's Bat can be baited and punished well with this move.
2D
No explanation needed. It's fucking 2D. Just don't get predictable and mash it out whenever or you'll deserve to lose like in any other match up.
Noel's Counter Assault
It's just too great for getting out of pressure for it not to be used. Especially against Platinum's relatively solid pressure game. This is less a guideline for this specific match-up and more for playing as Noel in general.
Use it, use it, use it.
Has a DP? - Yes. 5D with Bat equipped.
The easiest way to classify Platinum's bat is as a DP, but it should be noted that it isn't a particularly good one in a lot of cases. Like any DP it can be baited and punished and in this case 5D'd through with relative ease. This requires knowledge about the properties of your 5D, and naturally, you must anticipate when the Platinum will throw it out.
Has A DP With Heat? - Yes. Cure Dot Typhoon - Platinum's 632146C
Cure Dot Typhoon is fully invincible from the start and can not be punished until Platinum stops spinning. She has limited control over the direction she spins as well.
Things To Look Out For - Dream Sally, Mami Circular and Miracle Jeanne
Dream Sally - Platinum's 214A/B/C
At the end of a combo, is great oki and can be a set up into being Dramatic Sammy for a combo if you're not careful. It's also and equally great zoning tool that has great synergy with Cat, Bombs, and Missiles.
Mami Circular - Platinum's 236B
Platinum's Mami Circular is pretty fast, has a lot of active frames which make it close to impossible to Drive through, breaks Guard Primer and leads into high damaging combos. More often than not, getting hit with a raw Mami Circular is the worst thing that can happen to you during the course of a Rebel/match.
If you get hit with a raw Mami Circular while Platinum has Hammer, you should probably just Break Burst. No kidding. It's going to hurt.
It should also be noted that Platinum's with meter can start a pressure string, use Mami Circular and rapid cancel it. Rapid canceling Mami Circular at the correct time allows Platinum to use the move's momentum to cross you up and continue pressure.
Mircale Jeanne - Platinum's 236236B
Miracle Jeanne is scary. It just is. Platinum's weapons are already quite useful as they are normally and Miracle Jeanne increases the power of any one of them.
Noel vs. Lion (Miracle Jeanne Cat)
The range on Lion is insane and it does a good amount of damage despite its ability for her to follow up. She's normally going to power up her Cat in a situation where you're already a good distance away from her and use it to keep you out.
Be incredibly cautious and try your best to work your way in from the ground. Cancel your movement into a barrier block when you think the Lion will pounce.
Noel vs. the 16 Ton Hammer
Kills Guard Primer and/or barrier and sends out an unblockable shockwave that hits from a distance from a distance. Counter Assault or something 'cause otherwise your guard is going to be broken.
Noel vs. Excaliborg (Miracle Jeanne Bat)
Increased range and hitstun. If you're counter hit in the corner it will lead into big damage.
Noel vs. Paper Fan (Miracle Jeanne Pan)
Increased range, power and stun from Platinum's normal Pan. It can also be used as a ghetto anti-air.
Noel vs. Large Bombs
Insane chip damage. Barrier block, please.
Noel vs. Large Missiles
Incredibly big, very fast, do good damage and/or chip and combo into each other using Mytique Momo.
