Thanks everyone! I am again amazed by the helpful, responsive community here. it seems my issue rightnow is adjusting to the LONG blockstring and understanding when they end/how to get out. Im working on it. The well timed vivace seems like a good plan. And yes, I have seen the frame data a bit. Ive never been huge on knowing data, just some basic stuff like: zangiefs SPD is one frame, while akuma's raging demon is zero frames. Ryu can wakeup SRK in 3 frames. But as far as really knowing how much something is plus or minus on block, I didnt feel like I had to know. sometime sI would look it up jus tto know if a move was "safe"ish or not, but rarely did I come up with my own frametraps or anything, just stole them from pros if I used them.

OK, serious question time: how the fuck do you get out of corner pressure? Ive found myself mashing Shoryuken out of instinct. Otherwise I either: eat huge combos and die or use up all of my barrier gauge, then eat huge combos and die. Sometimes I get counterhit out of jabs or throw attempts and eat huge combos and die. Is there some equivalent to SRKs, like a move with invincibility on wake-up or something?

[CS2] Carl Clover Tactical Discussion/Questions/Help
Regalstirling replied to Kyle's topic in Archive
So, alright. I understand that Carl doesn't exactly have BnBs. But taking into account my mediocre execution: what are one or two reliable combos? I have my Carl solo one pretty much down: 5B 6B 623C 6B sjc 5B 2C 5B jc 5B 2C 5C. I thats a pretty solid combo. When the game is Carl - Nirvana - opponent, I usually just have nirvana do drillhand and I airdash, trying to get a cross-up or something. Or if they are coming at me, the long-finger 623D When its Carl - opponent - Nirvana I go for 5B, 6C, 6D then I just go into my Carl solo combo. Theres gotta be something better to do here thats still at my level, and something with some of Carl's reset shenanigans oppurtunities afterward (believe yall call that okizeme?). any help to be given for these very basic questions? -
Hey, I was tryin to play with you earlier but the internet was doin weird things, and it wouldnt let me join your room or party. I dunno if you go the messages I sent you either. But Im at my moms for a few days while i wait for my new house to open up, so I should have better internet soon. Its probably for the best, my scrubbiness is still embarrassing. Id say I drop 9/10 combos that i start, haha.

[CS2] Carl Clover Tactical Discussion/Questions/Help

proration is some mathematical shit. Ill try and keep it in mind. other just two very specific questions: what can I get off of throws? (with or without absurd execution?) and off of the 3C slide. I know I can get an ultra off of it, but if I dont have meter, can I do anything? -

This is my first non-SF fighting game, and Ive been playing for about a week. My combo creativity has been limited, haha. Been doing a lot. B, 6C, 6D then just goin for resets into that same tiny combo, haha. Real Talk: Im a newb. -

Hello, newb here. First time in the Carl specific forums. Is there no combo thread for him? Sorry if this is obvious, but I do not know where to look. -
well, after my thread got hijacked (trolled?) I am back. The execution for anyone is still real hard for me. I drop FADCs in SF to this day, now and then. But I acknowledge that the gap between high execution chars and low execution chars is not as big and scary as it first seemed, and not letting it keep me from trying Carl. I am in the process of moving, so I havent been playing much, but I can get a couple reps of carls combo with his 26 and nirvana's 8[D], which is a good amount of damage for very little execution, so tahts making me feel good. Also, Carl's dad being announced is awesome. If I eventually get the hang of carl, it will be right when Relius is released and I will have to switch, haha. Then once I master him theyll release Jubei, no doubt. Well, anyway, thanks for keeping the advice incoming. Hope to play some of you online in the near future.

Ive been hitting up training mode. Definitly a higher level of execution that Taokaka for combos. But Tao required that high level for drive cancel mix-ups/cross-ups. If I can get a 2C with carl, the back-and-forth between carl and nirvana isnt too hard and does lots of damage. Other, harder combos I drop before they do enough damage alot, but they make for easy resets. I think carls complexity could be worse. that being said: IF THERE ARE ANY CARL PLAYERS THAT WANT TO PLAY ME AND HELP ME OUT: ADD ME: REGAL STIRLING.

Ill check the character specific forum, but that sounds like it takes some execution. Ill give it a shot, though.

the TL? I do love me some trolling. what is this TL?
-
lets say I have one charge with tsubaki and I land a standing B. Where should I be spending that charge in the following combo? Ive seen people extend combos with the air projectile that I believe is QCB+D. is that how you beef up the damage so much?
-
OK, so Ive got it down to basically 4 or 5 chars, but obviously thats still a pretty sizable list. Im coming over from SF4 and am a bit daunted by the execution and weirdness on some of the cooler characters, but thats also some of whats attracted me to the game. Arakune is real cool, but I think Ive pretty much ruled him out on account of his weird playstyle and high execution barrier. Carl is in a similar boat, but Ive had more success with him, so hes still in the running. Tsubaki and Valkenhayn have very easy combos and seem pretty straightforward. Although as tsubaki I cant do enough damage, and as valk I cant open people up and I get counterhit all the time. Taokaka seems like a nice middle ground, but I havent been able to get my j.8D~A loop down. is she viable with some more basic combos with less damage output? (I do like 2k-2.3k)

OK, Im coming over from SF4, and Ive wanted to be able to play this game for a while, but none of my friends do, so it has been hard to learn. Ive played through some challenge mode, and gotten some combos down very reliably, but pressure, footsies, mix-ups, and wake-up game all seem to just work so differently in this game that I can rarely get in on people and open them up without getting counter hit A LOT. When I do land a combo, the opponent is knocked far away/can air tech/can roll and I cannot keep any oki pressure on. My turtle-ing attempts have not gone much better. Are there some dumb habits that typical SF players usually bring over that anyone can tell me to get rid of? Are these problems ones that can only be solved through practice? Should I be choosing a main before I really feel comfortable with the game? I dont want to dedicate myself to a character and then once I learn the game, decide that they werent for me. Yet the chracters are SO distinct in BB that I feel like maybe picking one and sticking to it from day 1 is a necessity (whereas in SF I learned on Ryu to get basics and later switched to Adon). Should I be embarrassed that i cant even beat the AI consistently in score-attack mode? Who allowed tager to do so much damage? any advice at all. If anyone is on XBL with a mic and wants to play sometime, Id be very grateful. kick my ass and tell me how you did it, please. My XBL name is: Regal Stirling Thanks in advance for reading my very long post and helping me out!

ya, as a big fan of dudley and J talbain, combining them into a classy werewolf is probably too cool for me to even attempt to play. Also SRK says a patch is goin through? does this mean that tsubaki might stop being such low tier? cause shes definitely the character that has felt most natural for me.
-
ya, add me on xbox live. Ill be busy with finals in the immediate future, but Im excited to learn to play better. Workin on Tsubaki as my main, I think. Taokaka can do some silly shit with her drive, poppin up behind people and whatnot, but I just find her character design so lame, haha.

new to BB and to the forums, but just saw that there was an NC thread. any UNC students here? tryin to learn how to play, figured if I could play against some people in person itd be of help.
