Alright, so I got to play some games with Omnisscythe and other good Kagura players and I managed to hold my own against them. This matchup doesn't feel as bad as I thought. Some things I took away from those matches: - Akira pointed out a lot of things that make this matchup look really dumb on paper (high damage, big normals, flashkick, etc) and he's right in that Kagura is definitely threatening thanks to those. However, there's one flaw Kagura has that balances out these strengths and prevents him from abusing them as easily as he'd like: his poor mobility. This restricts his neutral gameplan to be somewhat defensive. - In neutral, it seems that hovering right outside Kagura's 5C range is the sweet spot, He can't do much here; 5C and 2C whiff, if he tries to approach in the air, he'll eat a Brio and if he tries to bulldog his way in with 6D~A/C, Carl can punish it with cantabile or by simply jumping and coming down on them with j.C (second option only works if Kagura's drives whiffed/didn't hit Ada). - Tenerezza is very useful in this matchup. Anytime Kagura's in 5C range w/the doll, he can be caught by it. If Kagura's poking around with 5C or 2C, you can "punish" the whiff with Tenerezza. It may not actually hit but they'll be forced to block and if Carl's in the neutral range I mentioned, Carl can even get in on him to start pressure provided that he can do so quick enough so that there's no gaps for Kagura to flash kick through - Be mindful of doll usage. Although Ada can eat projectiles w/near impunity, Kagura's individual strikes deal massive amounts of damage to her, so much that he can kill her off from starting health values that you didn't think was possible. - I found that crossup mixups and resets are much riskier in this matchup as Kagura's flashkick blows them up for free. Better to limit usage of j.2C crossups in this match. - When you're mixing up Kagura, throw out an overhead every now and then to make him lose his flashkick charge (make sure the string's tight though). - With that said, I did some kind of crossup setup and somehow made the flashkick whiff (!?). I'll have to look at the replays again to see what I did. - I've been told that Kagura's mixups aren't actually that safe. FWIW, they don't feel too safe to me either considering how I managed to mash out a few times. - You can rhythm block his crossup and fake crossup; the latter's faster by 9 frames - Kagura's flashkick is safe on air block. If you're in the air and in range, he has no reason not to do it. Keep this in mind when running pressure/mixup/oki on him. I still need to do more research on this matchup but I think that it's definitely winnable.

I had a combo in CSEX on Tager and Hakumen that was something like [5B, j.2C, j.B, j.C] x 2, 2B, 3C. Did something like 3 meterless, maybe it'll work in CP? I'll test it out when I get home.

[CP] Carl Clover Gameplay Discussion (Changelog in OP)

I usually do (air dash into stuff), land, ground combo, [236A3214D (done very quickly)] or [4D1236A]. As for combos: For anima, you have: •- 63214D, 6]C[, Lv 2/3 6C, 5C, 623D, j.B, djc, j.B, j.C, 421D, 5C, j.B, j.C, 46D, 5C, sj.B, j.2C, j.B, dj.B, j.C, 8D, 3C (meterless 5k!) •- 63214D, OD Cancel, 5A+B, 6]C[, 46D, Lv 2 C, 5C, 623D, j.B, djc, j.B, j.C, 421C, j.B, dj.B, j.C, 8D, 3C (Unburstable 7k w/OD + 75 meter) For 4D: •- 4D, 236A, 6]C[, 6C hits,5C, j.B, j.2C, 421D, sj.B, j.2C, j.B, JC, j.B, j.C, 8D Generally, you can combo into CT during any instances you can combo into 5C so yes, CT would work after Anima and 4D. Extra PSA: this isn't aimed at you in particular, Sodelic, but to everyone doing 236A crossup resets, make sure to practice them from other setups too. In every Carl mirror I've fought thus far in CP, I've blocked every single 4D crossup reset because everyone was doing the exact same setup (5B, 6B, Vivace crossup 4D) and likewise, people who know the matchup will likely do the same. If you only practice 5B, 6B, vivace reset, you'll autopilot this to the point where the reset becomes really telegraphed against people with matchup knowledge. I've made this mistake for a long time and now it's catching up to me when I play really good opponents who can block Carl mixup, don't fall into the same trap that I have! D: -

Ottawa loves anime, do you? Also, reminder that there'll be no meetups at Dev's/my place this weekend. -
The UB followup combo is a regular combo albeit a rather hard one. I actually don't even know if it works in OD lol. (Sorry for the delayed response btw)

In the corner? 46D, Volante (provided that it's done early enough) and Fuoco will all catch backdashes. Relius can backdash a meaty 6D but Carl should be able to punish it by doing a delayed 5B or something. Midscreen, you could try 46D but truth be told, it's probably going to be very hard (if it's even possible) to punish Relius' backdash midscreen if Nirvana's behind you.

Ottawa: Why have fundamentals when you have gimmicks?
Psykotik replied to Freezerburn's topic in International
Oh man, Ottawa getting hype for CP? Shieetttt. On that note, I'm willing to lend out my PS3 w/CP on it again for this week's Algonquin meetup if Scott can take it with him. -
Updated this one with a few of my observations from playing a few Rachel matches. Anyone who wants to contribute more here is welcome to.

I'm actually done for the night, sorry. GGs to you and lime.

Yeah, I need a room. I'm looking to get there on Friday (whether it'll be in the morning or afternoon is TBD)

We should start making NEC room arrangements soon, Bill. We've only got a month to go.

Everyone does :< GG's to everyone I've played.

I got shenanigans http://youtu.be/LLWzJIatg7w I could probably make the combo a little better but then again 5.4k for 25 meter ain't too bad :P EDIT: Fixed the link
-
http://youtu.be/Q32XJu5LPQo?t=21s It's rather tricky but if you can do this, there's no reason not to. 236D isn't a command, did you mean 421D? As for OD, I haven't been using it much yet but from the times I've used it, it seems amazingly useful for healing Ada + creating burst-safe combos/mixups. It's definitely something I need to experiment with more. As for OD combos, I don't really do anything specific, just my usual combos. There's probably a lot more I could do in OD that I haven't explored yet.

[CP] Carl Clover Gameplay Discussion (Changelog in OP)
Psykotik replied to Akira-Shiro's topic in Carl Clover
Heh, winning with a character online doesn't mean netplay doesn't affect him Necro lol. To answer your question Wiredgod, how much Carl is set back by netplay could vary from person to person due to personal executional quirks and whatnot. Most of the initial difficulty in learning Carl's execution comes from getting used to negative edge inputs. As far as timing goes, I find that Carl's surprisingly lenient on timing for most of his practical stuff. FWIW, I've been able to pull off most of his stuff in most 2 bar connections but then again, muscle memory probably plays a big role in this lol. Short answer: I don't think it's that bad but someone else might disagree. Offline is still superior ofc.
