DIO is a player that'll come to a lot of people's minds when they think of Carl. While I'm personally not a fan of his Carl either. he's a competent Carl who's capable of beating strong players and watching his play could be insightful if you can look past the sloppiness. You have clearly never seen his ABA play :P

One thing I noticed at around 1:10 - Fermata clearly drained Ada's life to 0 but when Carl activated OD, she gained back her life immediately instead of dying. It seems that Ada doesn't actually die at 0 life until she's finished with a move which probably explains the 0-life "clap loop". The fact that we can now recover meter during supers will definitely be a strong incentive to use ODs.

^ I should add that while that's techincally true if Carl is alone, if you can get Nirvana to push you in the corner as you're doing the string, it'll hit everyone even if they IB barrier guard while crouching. Of course, you have to be really close for this so if you're further away, [5C, doll move, jump cancel] or [5C, 3C, tenerezza] are also perfectly fine for pressure.

Try not to go out in front too much without cover as you can punished for it like you were in 6:24. As for your offense, Akira basically covered almost every issue I could've thought of in his post. 5C jump cancel into IAD + doll move is a good option if you're a bit far from your opponent but if you're close enough, the 6B>6A gatling is also a viable option to mix up your pressure. I noticed that you ended your knockdowns with oki that's not reversal safe and required you to hard bait Makoto's DP. Volante oki works in the corner as reversal-safe oki that'll also catch rolls. Some of your pressure strings and mixups had very noticeable holes (5:06 and 15:32 for example) that would have allowed your opponent to mash or jump out. Fortunately, your opponent respected you enough to let you get away with that, among other things. With that said, this is a pretty solid bit of Carl play. Your neutral seemed alright and some of your mixups were quite nice such as the one on 11:52 (I'm stealing that btw lol). Your biggest problems right now (combos and offense) are things that'll fix itself with time.

Kokonoe and Noel can be hit by fuzzies, it's just harder on them, especially Kokonoe lol.

I'm not even talking about that split, it's more about how you're detailing every single input in the combo to the point where it gets cluttered. It can become very unintuitive with regards to readability at times, especially during combos where Nirvana's attack hits long after the negative edge input but it isn't noted. That might just be me tbh but IMO, it wouldn't hurt to be more concise with your notation and just list the sequences of attacks w/out the extra inputs (such as jump cancel directions and stuff like that) as they hit the opponent, aside from maybe indicating allecancels and some charge timings. EDIT: With that said, it's not a big deal, sorry if it came off like that

Your notation is really confusing >_< On another note, have you tried adding the 2C wallbounce in there somewhere? I can't test anything out atm but j.B+3D, 2B, 2C, 5C, j.B, j.214C, Airdash j.B, j.2C~allecan, 6A, [...] you make the combo a wee bit longer and add a bit of time for the doll to recover. Anyways, here's a quick black hole punish combo I found: (Vivace out of black hole and then backdash twice), charge 6C, Lv2 6C, 5A+B, 5C, 623D, j.2C, j.C, 46D, j.2C~allecan, j.2C, j.214C, 421D, dash, 5C, sj.B, JC, j.B, j.2C, j.C, 8D, ender. Does ~5.8-5.9k w/out a super ender.

I have a feeling that the first point is probably referring to the passive gauge consumption; Nirvana can already attack before passive consumption starts. The cantabile change seems odd... I wonder if they're adding the CH buff to encourage us to use cantabile in neutral as a counter poke of sorts. Then again, it could just be a random change that I'm overthinking. One interesting opinion of the loketest is that Dogura thinks that Carl will be very strong after the patch. While I have a feeling Carl won't be breaking into S tier in this version, the fact that many problem characters are getting nerfs while Carl remains relatively unchanged definitely helps his standing in the tier list. On another note to everyone else, I changed my mind re:discussion and I'll permit it in this thread. Y'all know the rules, get to it.

I won't say Carl is ass tier per se but his neutral is not as good as people think it is. Anyone who can poke the doll safety will generally have a relatively easy time dealing with his neutral; all of his bad matchups (Haku and Mu stand out in particular) consist of these kinds of characters. His inconsistent neutral is pretty much the main reason he's considered mid tier character despite his ridiculous vortex.

Got it, regarding that string, 623D can be done pretty much whenever. For the first j.2C, try to hit them when they're relatively low to the ground after the wallbounce; after the first j.2C~214C, the second j.2C needs to be done pretty much immediately after you land and you need them to be low enough so you can hit them with the second one immediately.
