  1. Still only 5 people for GG. Come on guys.
  2. Wow...just got annihilated by a really good Chun player. Anyone have advice for handling her psychotic rushdown? All I ever really managed was using special on the ground to anti-air her, but that never really lead to solid damage and she was back on me before I could even think.
  3. Good deal. I figured it'd work that way, but I had some friends asking me about that. They were worried they'd have to choose between games or whatever, and I wanted to make sure I'd told 'em correctly.
  4. Random question, BUT: how's it gonna work with so many Tournies starting at the same time? I'd imagine if nothing else SF4 and Marvel are gonna have huge overlap of players. If we're playing in one game could we just send a runner to another game area to let them know we're busy?
  5. If only I was closer, I'd be all about this.
  6. Sounds like an awesome plan to me. Hopefully some of the better players get behind it, too.
  7. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhzR6rlPP8M *shrug* ^That's a decent place to start. Watch close and you should be able to figure some things out.
  8. Just climbed back into training mode with Sol for the first time in forever. Wondering if anyone has tips for mastering SW loops off a BR RC? On some characters I can be pretty successful landing a few reps, but on others it's much more difficult. Definitely feeling rusty right now...too much Marvel... :-/
  9. People still care about Soul Calibur? :-/ I can hate all I want, but I still gotta admit that if they returned to a game more like 1/2 and less like 3/4 I'd be down. Shit just got weird.
  10. If that will make me right then yes, that is what I meant by soon.
  11. Hey man, I do what I can. At least we know there's a small GG group that will be signing up soon. Right, guys? Right....?
  12. Room reserved and pre-reg finished. Ready to rock in BB,GG, Marvel, and MK9 (what?!). How accurate is the pre-reg listing on the site? I know it's still a month away but I was hoping to see more than 3 people for BB and,uh,zero for GG. Now that my attendance is official I gotta remember how to play BB and GG. I hope Marvel hasn't made me entirely useless...
  13. Got to play the demo with a friend yesterday, and it really improved my opinion of the game. Some stuff still feels weird, and the general gameplay is a bit clunkier than I'm used to, but it was really fun punishing blocked projectiles with an enhanced Shadow Kick. Cage is somehow my favorite character to use right now. Considerably excited for the full game now, and while it still doesn't look to be a SUPERB game, it's definitely a lot of fun and a drastic improvement over garbage like Deception and Armageddon.
  14. I don't think anyone denies that Sentinel is a good character. Nini's post sums up what's great about him, and due to the nature of the game, why not throw Sent on your team? If nothing else he has a really nice assist. The point a lot of people are trying to make, however, is that Sentinel was never so broken or OPed that he needed this kind of random patch to be fixed. Players with Sentinel on their team aren't winning big tournaments, and a LOT has been done by top (and even not-quite-top) players to "expose" Sentinel, if you will. He's a good character, no question, he just isn't (and wasn't) overpowered.
  15. I'm on the eastern edge of Ohio, close to Pittsburgh. I appreciate that advice though, and it reinforces what I was already thinking, so that's good (I guess?) Looks like the first step would be to go on a Marvel strike and hook the PS2 back up.
  16. What's the plan for SF4/MvC3 on Sunday? Top 8? Top 4? Something bigger? Hopefully if nothing else all that nonsense will be over before GG/BB finish up. Hopefully Tekken and MK just stay on an alternate stream or something....Tekken streams tend to bore me to tears. But then...what do I care? Not like I'm gonna be at home watching. I haven't registered yet, but I'm definitely down for GG as well. Little extra money in the pot if nothin' else. :D
  17. No, patches aren't knee-jerk or lazy, but a change like "whoa geez we need to remove 400k from Sentinel" is. Linear makes another good point. In the end I'm not truly upset by the patch or anything, it's just sort of an eye-roller.
  18. It should more or less ensure that, you're right. It's just the way they did it that bothers me. Like I and plenty others have said, it's knee-jerky and lazy. Any patch that does more than fix bugs or glitches at this stage in the game is going to feel rushed/needless to a lot of people. Marvel 2 went a decade without any updates or revisions (right?) and Marvel 3 has been out a month and Capcom is already changing things; drastically in the case of Sentinel. It's a little out of nowhere, and just isn't all that necessary outside of bug fixes.
  19. That new schedule actually looks pretty awesome as far as a stream is concerned. Especially since it almost guarantees GG/BB get plenty of stream-time. Always a plus, far as I'm concerned.
  20. It's just a very large nerf, and it seems like a "lazy" fix to me. Instead of really looking at what's making people bitch about Sentinel (he can kill an entire team in about 15 seconds with the right conditions and has normals that do chip damage!) Capcom just said "Oh fuck it, we'll just make a giant robot have comparable health to a small robot". Plus, issues with Sentinel vary from person to person. I didn't think he was that terrible to play against; Phoenix feels waaaay cheaper to me. Others would probably disagree.
  21. I know he's largely outshined, maybe even made obsolete, by Akuma, but does anybody have any tips for getting in with Ryu? I've been messing around with him here and there and like using him for some weird-ass reason. Against a lot of characters I can get tons of mileage off of spamming Hadoken, but once beams get brought out I quickly crumble as I try to switch over to rushdown offense after my wimpy fireballs are destroyed. What's a karate man to do!?
  22. I have every intention of giving the Fist or Twist La Quinta tourney a go. If nothing else I can return to my room and drown my tears in it after getting obliterated at BB. Gotta get my group's funds together and I'll be reserving a room sometime next week, hopefully. I wasn't going to enter GG before, but I feel a recent necessity to participate and show the world that people still play it. If that means I can't afford to enter Marvel, so be it!
  23. I've been playing Guilty Gear for a long time. A really long time. Ever since I was thirteen or so and spotted GGX in the local EB and bought it on some odd whim or reason I don't recall, I've loved the series. The characters, the graphics, the music, the balls-to-the-wall gameplay, you know the drill. I've had numerous highs and lows with the game through the years, whether it was playing for hours after school before track practice with pals in high school or beating on scrubs at some random C-bus anime convention. The whole while I always felt I was pretty solid at the game, though obviously not champion material. Then came October 2010 and Season's Beatings 5. I signed up for the GGAC tourney, with my only intentions being to have fun and see what I could do. I practiced and practiced my CLSW loops all day, and tried my best to up my game as much as possible before the big weekend. In the first round I was matched against Sesshryu and his Order-Sol. Despite terrible tourney nerves and awful execution I somehow won the first game. My God, I thought, am I actually gonna get out of the first round? Nope. Everything fell apart those next two games. I got mixed up, tossed into the corner, and obliterated. My only answer was random VVs on wakeup. Onward to Loser's, where I was promptly and effortlessly eliminated by a May player. Ever since I've lost some of my love for GG, I think largely because I'm not sure where to go from there with my Sol playing. There is zero scene in my area, and I've never met another person who even plays GG without having it introduced by me. I've tried to train friends up but they never really pose a legitimate threat or a real desire to level up their games at all. Just the other day I was playing against a friend who never plays fighters seriously. He picked Bridget, for whatever reason. I rushed him down and hit him with loops and combos and what-have-you, but it took entirely too much effort and I ate way too many random, mashy hits. After that, I really feel as if I've lost my taste for the game, and it saddens me. BUT! Powerup 2011 is coming in just over a month...and I want to try again. I wanna get back in there and see what I can do. However, I'm still lost as to what I can do to get better. With no equal training partners, no online play, and feeling at the end of my own personal knowledge, I come here with a question: what can I be doing? Practicing my loops and combos will only get me so far. Have any of you ever been in a similar situation? What would the superior Badguys out there recommend I try? Any help is greatly appreciated.
  24. In the video Giant Bomb put out of them playing the demo, they mentioned something about not being able to do the stage fatality in the forest. Don't know why it wouldn't be in the demo, but uh...yeah.
  25. Ah well, I can dream. I'll just have to set up a ghetto Fist or Twist station under an overpass or something and hustle passers-by in seedy, illicit money matches.
