Q&A about Joystick Building, Parts, and Purchasing
M4g1c4lM4g1 replied to mr.mortified's topic in Hardware
If I remember correctly... The BB TE is the same as the SSFIV TE, which will run cheaper because the BB TE is a limited edition item. If you want, you can get a SFIV TE and just replace the art. -
What I did? I practiced. Literally I ended up grinding the same combos over and over in training mode/challenge mode. (If you want to practice the same combo in challenge mode you can press back/select right after you land the last hit.) As a beginner, you'd want to learn an easier combo or two that you can rely on, and later on replace them with better and harder combos. I don't know much about Jin at all, so you'd need to go to the Jin forums for a list of combos, or use ones you've done in challenge mode. Once you move on past the beginner stage, you'll learn more and more combos. You have to have your own way of organizing those combos. I've only seen people organize them by what starts the combo (referred to as the "starter"). So, when you learn the more advanced combos (assuming you're organizing by starter), you would categorize them by: - The move used. - Where you and your opponent are on the screen when the move hit (note 1. distance to the corner, as well as 2. distance between you and your opponent). - Whether or not the move counterhit your opponent. - How much meter you have. - Character-specific combos/alterations. ...I'll use my A.B.A here as an example. One of her good pokes is f.S. (Don't worry about the details, just the concept). Hit opponent with f.S: -Midscreen: -Close to my opponent: gatling into 2HS -> j.S, j.HS, j.D for corner carry. -Far from my opponent: cancel into rekkas. Also provides corner carry. -with 25% meter: FRC into keygrab. -Corner: gatling into 2HS -> orbs loop -Near Corner, with 25% meter: cancel into rekkas, FRC last hit into 2H -> orbs loop. Hit opponent with a throw: Corner: cancel into 2S -> butt loop. (Disclaimer: Half this stuff isn't optimal, it's mostly for example. ) Don't sweat what I mean about rekkas, FRCs and the like, just note that different starters lead to different combos in different situations.

As far as combos, you will have to learn the combos, although there may be more than one way to do so (I tend to go by muscle memory off of a certain move/situation, not necessarily a good way to go). As far as hitboxes go, it would be like turning your stick into a keyboard (or vice versa), so if you have a fg you can play on PC you can try it (if you don't have a fg for pc, Wonderful World is a freeware fighter that you could use to try that out). Keep in mind the norm is stick, so you might not be able to borrow someone else's controller if you forget your controller or it stops working (or at least not play as well), and you might not be able to play in arcades.

...Kenshi's looking pretty cool.

Hopefully we won't have to wait "12 fucking years" for this one. >.>

There seems to be multiple theories of how you should learn. 1. If you haven't, go through tutorial mode. If you've already played a different fighting game you can skip the basics, but BB has a lot of specific mechanics that you should know about before diving in. 2. Pick a character that you like. I ended up finding a character going through 2-4 on Yuki's list. Now, lots of people will tell you to go into challenge mode to start learning combos for your character. (Note that challenge mode doesn't have all the combos for your character, nor the optimal ones. For this, check out your character's subforum here on DL and look for a combo thread). Another school of thought is to get a simple combo down (one usually found in the first few challenge mode combos, sometimes just a few moves into a special), and instead play a lot (presumably against other people, online or offline) in order to learn how to get hits on your opponent (since if you never get a hit, you never score a combo).

Also worth noting that combo teching was discussed in this thread, and the same basic ideas apply to CS2 from CS1.

Seconded.

Was thinking of getting the game since I barely have stuff to play with my non-FG friends. Not sure when I'd get it though. -
As far as stick stuff, just keep at it in training mode, you'll get it down.

She definitely takes more effort than characters like Ragna, Jin, Tager, etc. Nothing that can't be overcome with practice though. -
I can attest to 360 not having this option for CRTs. No idea that PS3 could though. o.O

Maybe consider running up to be a false "startup" for the throw, making it possible to react? I don't know, most of my throw breaks are me trying to throw them at the same time. >.>

He doesn't quite live in MI AXIS... -
With Lumin gone, half the people who usually would make it wouldn't. That's why Toasty moved it to Friday, so those people have a chance to attend.

Hold 8 after 5C input, so you're buffering throughout the move. Then after 5C is done, go to 2 and press a button. This comes from no Saki experience, so you might have to delay the 2 some or something... don't know. Just saying how to buffer charge moves in general. -

I know little about Saki, but in general charge characters' combos involve buffering the charge with another move. I don't know how/if this will work out with the charge being on [8], but try holding the direction while doing the previous move or so. Only problem I forsee is if the previous move was jump cancellable. -
No set way to change between A/B configs, but changing buttons is really easy in BB and available in the character select screen, so no big deal.

Shana stick is pretty cool.

Q&A about Joystick Building, Parts, and Purchasing

Should you want one, he can build you a custom. -
...post is too good to stay in NPG alone...

By doing 623X (Forward, Down, Down-Forward), you have no way of getting 236X. 6236X would give a DP if you're fast enough (iirc), but if you're too slow the buffer will forget your first 6 and you will end up with 236X.

Another good idea, just make sure your converters are lagless. Hopefully will update this post in a few with a list. EDIT: Converter Compatibility Thread
