  1. Oh? When did they announce they weren't recording English voices?
  2. The time-frame of a port having an adverse effect on the game's technical quality isn't really something worth worrying about anymore. The hardware in arcade machines is so close to the hardware in modern consoles that less time is required to code a port than in previous console generations. More often that not, the main reason for a long delay in a home port is due to marketing. Developers have to allow a certain period of arcade exclusivity for new titles, otherwise the arcades have less motivation to buy the newest games. There's also stuff like selecting a release window that minimizes competition and other less-apparent factors that go into deciding when to release a new game on consoles. The home version of Xrd isn't exactly being rushed out the door, either. Even if they meet that September 30th release (which is likely to be the very earliest it would come out), that's a delay of over seven months. BBCT and CS both took approximately seven months to hit consoles, while P4A took less than five months.
  3. Daisuke deserves to be raised onto the stage during a wicked guitar solo in the middle of a laser light show. Also there's a fog machine. Kojima can be off to the side clapping, periodically pushing a pair of taped glasses up the bridge of his nose.
  4. I took the liberty of updating the news thread since nobody else had. If I wasn't supposed to for some reason, I request the mods delete my post there with apologies.
  5. Both the PS3 and PS4 ports of Xrd will be localized by Aksys and are due for release in North America sometime this fall. IGN currently lists a release date of September 30th, although that could be a placeholder until the actual release date is finalized. Source. Xrd will also be showcased at this year's E3, with a playable demo of the PS4 version at the SCEA booth. Daisuke Ishiwatari will be in attendance for interviews and an autograph session. Sources here and here.
  6. I've always thought it would be awesome to play a 2D fighter with a versatile all-around character who has a DP, a fireball, and some sort of horizontal space-controlling kick. Be cool if they had a projectile super, too. Oh well, a man can dream...
  7. Assuming that's the very last of the DLC for CP, my original estimates for the cost totals were pretty close. The only thing I failed to take into account was the cost of the six lobby character packs, which comes to $5.94. All totaled up, that brings the combined cost of this game's DLC to $114.19 ($116.68 if you're too impatient to unlock Kagura the normal way). Like NeoStray said, vote with your wallets.
  8. That was supposedly their motivation for waiting so long to make Kokonoe playable. I think that might have backfired though...
  9. Better yet, add a boxing squirrel.
  10. That's... sort of what they did with vanilla AC for the PS2, in a way. I can understand why they wouldn't do that with a new game in Japan, but for other territories, yeah, I could see that as a viable way to market the game.
  11. It's always been like that. I noticed that the very first time I popped the disc in. I thought that start screen BGM was groovy, but yeah, it only plays for maybe 30 seconds (if even) before the opening movie replays. "You like that super chill theme playin' right now? Yeah, it's pretty coo-- PSYCHE! Here's the shitty J-pop again!"
  12. If nothing else, I gotta give them props for originality. The aesthetic is 90s comic book gore meets Tim Burton chic-gothic sprinkled with a teensy pinch of anime--which is to say I've never seen anything quite like it. Most of the character designs are pretty inventive as well. I'd probably be more interested in this if it was 2007-2009 or somewhere in there. In the present day, the market has become so oversaturated with 2D fighters that a new game in the genre has to do something really spectacular to capture my attention. And it's hard to get properly hyped for a new game when 90% of the media for it is concept material. TCI looks interesting, but that's pretty much as far as it goes for me.
  13. I have no problems whatsoever with the game's roster as it is now. 14 is a decent number of characters, and there's a good amount of variety present in terms of gameplay styles and story representation from the various "factions" (for lack of a better term). That said, I certainly wouldn't complain if they added a couple more faces to the console version, which I'd say is a strong possibility given their recent history.
  14. The great thing about being unemployed is that you get time off for EVERY new game release! /crawls into bed with all his clothes on weeping softly
  15. Oh boy, new things to complain about!
  16. Damn, he was the character I was most interested in picking up. Hmm... Maybe I can sub someone who's ass tier and still retain my family's honor...
  17. Considering how easily the PS3 could display four BB character sprites at once, I'm still not convinced he wasn't misquoted on that. That's not to say they'll never do some sort of tag team feature in BB, just that the idea they need to wait for a PS4 installment to do it is bull.
  18. Before we go chasing that dream, I'd like to remind everybody that competitive rock-paper-scissors players (yes, that is a real thing) have been known to rank the different hands in terms of their strength and engage in fairly intense arguments about it. People will always make tier lists because arranging things from strongest to weakest appeals to our basic human desire for order and organization. I think a more pragmatic goal is to have as little distance as possible between the top and bottom tiers. Match-ups don't need to be dead even as long as there's a realistic possibility (key word being realistic here -- theory fighter matches don't count for shit when there's cash on the table or in the machine) of any character being able to beat any other character regardless of where they're ranked on the tier list. When you have a fighter where the entire cast is viable at a competitive level, that's the sign of a well-balanced game, tier lists be damned.
  19. It's still too early to write off any of the characters. Remember when Carl was universally declared the absolute worst character in CT? Then somebody discovered the clap loop, and suddenly that little dude was chilling on the top floor of Tier Tower. All the Rachels and Nus and Arakunes would look up to their new master and beg for forgiveness -- beg for mercy. And Carl would look down and whisper "No."
  20. There's no way someone can do this that it doesn't look like they're insulting you. If they mirror you after you've beaten them, it's like they're saying you only won because of your character and look see they can be cheap and scrubby too. If they mirror you after they've beaten you, it's like they're saying you're so bad that they need to demonstrate the proper way to play the character so you don't embarrass yourself further. I know their true motive is probably neither of these in the vast majority of cases. Still, that won't stop me from narrowing my eyes and whispering "You asshole..." every time it happens.
  21. Looks like it's just a handful of bug fixes, but it's hard to tell. Google Translate is like reading a text from somebody who's really, really, really, really drunk.
  22. I prefer the Japanese voices purely because the characters tend to yammer on a lot during matches and I find it less distracting if I don't know what they're saying. Haha. Also, no disrespect to Doug Erholtz or Erik Davies, but Yuichi Nakamura does the whole psychotic laughter thing better than damn near anybody.
  23. Apologies in advance if this information is readily available and I'm just too stupid to find it... Have ASW confirmed a date for the release of the 1.1 console patch, or is it just set for some unspecified time in May?
  24. I think it has to do with the way the game syncs up between players. The majority of the data exchange happens at the very beginning of the match, so that's when the lag is likely to be worst. Letting the stage and character intros play out gives the game additional time to do its thing, so the connection should (theoretically) be at its smoothest by the time the first round starts instead of halfway through it. Again, I think that's how it works. My understanding of netcode is largely limited to what other people have said and my own observations of the game's behavior online.
  25. knowthatfeel.jpg Fought one guy in a lobby a whole bunch of times the other night. Our connection was kind of shaky and he just kept mashing through the intros of every match so the announcer was going "The... wheel... of... fate..... is......." And I'm thinking, Really? Do you honestly believe this is saving us any time? And of course, first rounds were always extra laggy as a result. The dude was actually really nice and I doubt he was skipping intros out of frustration or anything like that. I think some people just mash buttons at the start of every match as a reflex from playing offline.
