Core Skills That Every Great Player Has Mastered
Qu_Ane replied to thekiyote's topic in Guilty Gear General
EDIT: Okay never mind, apparently I don't know shit about frame data so exclude that part. The health multiplier you obviously get though, right? I mean, my mind literally goes blank after a certain point. lol You mean a high degree of talent, which requires luck to get. In my opinion it takes talent to even play a fighting game. So no I don't get it, I guess you're trying to say that if you aren't highly talented you aren't talented at all, which isn't true. -
I would torrent at night too but my laptop is loud as shit. Ever wondered what Chubacca and T-Pain what sound like after fusing? The dang vent. And I have a Mac too, don't want to sully it with an H folder yet though.

Core Skills That Every Great Player Has Mastered

The last three days I've only gotten five hours of sleep due to the time change. And due to that I haven't been able to kick it in gear to practice UNIEL, which in turn means I've scrapped three days I could have gotten better. Just thought I'd add something nobody else has said. Be healthy man. That can go along way. Get a good stretch in here or there, stay hydrated, get ample sleep, and don't overeat. Under those conditions I've made some of my best progress in games. And to the talent argument, I don't think you're using the correct word. Talent is a generalization. There are people born to have huge builds, or born to do great math(and some destined to suck at it), and people who are adept at thinking on their feat. I think that's called luck. Athletes, engineers, politicians. Yes, there are some who made it there with hard work, but I doubt that goes for all of them. The world isn't fair, some of those people are just plain good. And they get a positive handicap to some degree. Just look at the people who apply themselves and find out frame data and math for health modifiers and shit, I could never do that. But we all have some degree of it, just some more than others and that's why we have competition in the first place. If it was so clearcut who was and wasn't talented then there'd be a lot less of us, but that's what's so great about it...I think? -
I think I've lurked here long enough to confirm my suspicions. You're actually a Kirby aren't you...Masahiro Sakurai? How is that you're playing with only one arm? Were you hiding in Dustloop all this time in order to find "that"? Did you think I wouldn't find a Hawaiian shirt laying around? That hot dog stand was my personal buffet and you robbed it from me. Don't think you'll make it out of the US alive, because I will do everything in my power to take my town back. And for the record the rumors of the plans to Blazblue 3 being hidden in the lobby were true, but I took it from the mainframe before you could find it. Did you think I wouldn't notice your presence? I still don't understand why you left H.A.L....but if we cross paths Sakurai...I will fight you. And there will be consequences for what you've done. Mark my words.

...wow. Okay, I need to try Mu-12 in BB, cuz we sound like the exact same person when it comes to UNIEL. o__o I've been told the spacing requirements make it a combo not worth mastering early on, but I'd suggest at least trying the first delay combo from the wiki. That one was hella hard for me, but it's like anti-mash fundamental. If you can get to the 2A after the first crouching orb even once you'll feel a ton of difference in your skill with other combos. I still sort of mash out the startup moves to charge early. I notice a few of these games let you press some things beforehand-ish (AH3LM being the biggest offender), so folks like us'll be at an advantage if we can learn startup timing pretty well. I tend to hit 2C 5C at my own time, and hold up for the jump/charge right afterwards. Due to that I drop at 5C every once in a while, but I feel like I get days to charge when I don't drop it (I'm working on not dropping it at all, of course) and it really helps me wrap my head around things in mid-air (much needed, bcz time seems to flow fast forward for me in mid-air sometimes).
-
My arm's never gone to sleep from too much movement before. Gonna have to follow this advice too. Though for the record, I made it past the first crouching orb into 2A a few times so I must be doing something right. I wonder if there's a character you should spar against more with Vatista in between learning combos? I used Gordeau when I was learning this one. I hear all of the match-ups are so different. There's not much love for 5B and j.B/j.C as starters on the wiki. Are they unreliable due to speed? Although j.C's got a corner combo, I originally though was midscreen.

>Room is 0 bar >Requiring 1 bar Fuck.

As many times as I've been told that I still end up mashing start at the beginning. Anyway I realized pretty early this wouldn't work. Look at our locations.lol

I'll open one.

Oh and a new PSN logo. So, if anyone wants a fight, I'll be lurking/training. I prefer not to host (though I think I'm a 1 bar)

In an hour or so I can fight. IDK why it's taken years for Sony to make an update for closed captions on BDs, but that's what's stopping me from getting on. Not really hype enough to play right now anyway. I feel dead inside. Like a chicken. I've already been fried and put in a KFC box. FML...

If you guys want it recorded I can spectate. Have an Elgato HD I can use. Would rather not take part as my internet has been problematic with this game.
-
I'm probably being trolled but did someone say Knuckles cuz if that's true I already know my main.
-
Thanks, I just hope it helps. Not quite. If I had to make an example, there was a character who'd shoot ice at you as a follow-up after a spin-kick. But at the time the dummy cpu would fall out of it. I'd still continue the follow-up (which I knew would miss) as practice. I like to call it image training, because it became natural for me to want to see that follow-up when I'm through with the spin-kick.

Hi there. I've got a solution for you, as I went through the same thing recently. My track record for fighting games is a tad longer though, so there may be a difference in learning curve. A lot of the harder combos I've had to learn were done in slow motion, literally. Go into training mode, do the inputs at your own pace. Don't worry about the timing just yet, ignore whether you get the combo right and just MAKE yourself do the inputs CORRECTLY. Making sure you're pressing the right buttons is a must. Because you're probably like me, and combos (for no explicable reason) make you jittery and you go all ADHD with the keys. So as opposed to learning the timing first, you need to learn to be comfortable with inputs first, that way you can actually focus well enough to time the combo. The trick is to teach yourself not to see 4 buttons as 1000 buttons, teach your subconscious not to panic. Cuz if you're like me you are always moving full speed ahead, something that's very hard to change in a player. Start by observing which part of the combo makes you tick. It may be at the third or second hit, maybe even the first. Even if it's just two hits, once you get that part, move at a comfortable pace through the proper motions, ignoring what your character is doing(yes, this will look kind of stupid on the screen but you will be surprised how less panicky you'll be after you try this). Sometimes I've even practiced two hit combos and three hits, because the character was just so weird compared to who I've played before. Always try to make mental corrections on everything you do and push yourself little by little to get more of that second or third part right. You'll likely mess up, but just keep doing the inputs. You are training your muscle memory to slow down and understand the keys properly. FYI, I've used this way of practicing from Blazblue to Guilty Gear to KOFXIII to Arcana Heart, but as someone earlier said, each game is different so your observation needs to be different.

Noted. I started picking factory for some reason. lol This is what I thought too.
-
Interesting. I never did anything but watch a few vids concerning Dissidia, but if it's going arcade I might have to try it out.

Thanks and GGs to everyone who joined my lobby. Especially duncan45, SoaringZero, Nemesis-Type, and meatbag. I didn't realize how late it was, I'm not one of those folks who can game past 1 at night, so that's it for me. Not to mention that ass of a brother of mine snuck his way onto my wifi somehow and caused hella lag. Thought someone hacked my wifi at first. The whole situation just pissed me off so I just got off. Hopefully I'll meet some of the same folks next time and we'll have a better set.
-
Damn...I just know I'm gonna lag since we're on opposite sides of the country. Mind if take a shot in the dark anyway? lol EDIT: Nvm, lmao that wasn't gonna work either way.

Anyone east coast want a quick match?
-
By the way my skype id is: screwy-minus I was big on Medaka Box at the time. lol

I should stop being satisfied with halving people's health in this game and actually learn my character. But it's just so fun to throw normals out and actually catch people slippin with minimal strategy. I love seeing how much I can whoop someone's ass without trying. It's a lazyman's pride. So, if anyone's east coast or maybe midwest my net should be good enough to put up with. Barrage me with request/invites, I need peeps. But beware, I learn quick. People used to call me A.I. lies
-
I'll have to keep what I say short (something I should practice anyhow) cuz I'm using the Vita version. (Don't ask) Sorry for lurking all this time, tomorrow my net should finally be stable. I'm very intolerant with lag so I probably won't play long. lol I'm East Atlantic. I know a few active AHers not on this site so I can try and get them too, if you'd like.
-
Thanks a bunch. I've been going on the assumption that Ky has command normals and specials that are easy to take advantage of (Sol being the same but worse). I try to avoid characters who have too easy of a time, so as to focus on learning the game (which sounds backwards, I know). But again, that's just an assumption. I'll try Ky too.

This is out of place, but could someone kindly tell me what Slayer's game is like, generally speaking? I've been trying to main someone in Xrd, and he seems like he has very clear set of normals and mix-ups. Mostly based on disappearing/backing out before attacks. But I might be wrong. In any case, I just enjoy a simple game of footsies for the most part (yeah I know, I don't belong XP) but I'm trying to step up my game and learn some new things. I was hoping to find a character close to my style, at least.
