  1. You absolutely can, and it still performs its primary job in that case, but what happens there (in my experience at least) is that your third ball just barely gets tagged by one of the other two. If you want all your mix up options available you've got to sacrifice damage on a combo going into it and bank on pressure being good enough to make up the difference. I guess treat it more like a really long reset attempt in cases like that?
  2. It is also doable from full combos in 1.1, but you lose the ball you would either teleport to, or would let you keep at a tight spacing after you airdash back in. Not the end of the world, but it hurts your options on the pressure side of it a bit. I tested around a bit. The spacing issue is resolved with extra hits, but getting those extra hits into a knockdown is finnicky from character to character. That was overthinking it in the first place though, all you have to do is take a step back before hitting 5h. They get pushed back onto the third ball on hit or block, and the reversal whiffs like it should. You can also get the setup off of 2k > c.s (3) > p qv, dash or no, if you hold the qv for the tiniest fraction of a second. Of the ones I tried it on, it works on Ky, Sol, Chipp and Leo; while Millia and May got to tech out. I know from challenge mode that it's supposed to be possible to link QV into QV, but I've never been able to pull it off. That might allow you to try it on the super light characters if for some reason they're really in love with Winger or Ultimate Whiner or whatever other reversals the super light characters have.
  3. I can't seem to get this to work anymore. The pool cue gets tagged by the reversal every time. Am I not doing it tight enough, or do I need to modify it a bit to get the spacing right? I was thinking of trying p qv > 5p > 6h > p qv k-s set, but I almost never wake up reversal so I can't test it reliably without grinding out the timings forever.
  4. Are there any holes in his basic pressure? I'm finally getting to play this unholy bullshit, and it feels like I'm playing against Zato with how long I have to block.
  5. AFAIK, all the stage crash bugs are fixed.
  6. We're running Xrd again in Sacramento on the 11th. Pre-EVO, should be a packed house.
  7. I'd definitely help build up a Venom bible.
  8. I never single fighting game, top tier players use whatever they find most comfortable. Macro functions, button layout aren't something worth worrying about unless you're not comfortable with what you're currently using.
  9. Absolutely everyone is lost for a long time. I didn't break through to a level where I felt I could call myself "competent" until like two or three years in, and there's still a whole lot to learn. Give it time and patience, you'll get there.
  10. Every voice in the dub is good in comparison to english Venom...
  11. Something minor - At least in Xrd, as long as you have more than 1hp you can survive and amount of chip. You can test this yourself in training mode by setting a training dummy to normal block and everything and throwing Axl's stance attacks at them, which deal huge amounts of chip. It does a buttload of chip, but you can't actually kill them, even when you set their health bar to 1%, or 4.2 hp. Do the same thing with a multihit special, and they'll fall over on the second hit.
  12. I'm under the impression that a few of your guys come in from outside the bay, so I'm just dropping this in case any other them are unaware of the Sac locals. http://www.dustloop.com/forums/index.php/topic/10874-june-14th-capitol-fight-district-sacramento-ca/

  14. Yes, there is actually an anime scene outside of the bay in Norcal! We're organized through Facebook! $5 venue fee, and 5 bucks per tournament. Spectating is free, but you pay the venue fee even if you only play casuals Our general group - this is where actually announce and organize local stuff. Only kept private to stem the tide of spambots, anyone is actually welcome. The 11ths event Hard facts, up front - Sometimes Smash is there with us, which severely limits space with Street Fighter already being the primary game; so sometimes space is limited and there's only space for one or two Guilty setups. Also, I can't stress this enough, bring setups if possible. TO's bring all they can, but they only have so much. You'll be compensated in some form or another for doing so, usually with raffle tickets or a waved venue fee. The good news - Most of our players are SF and Marvel crossover, so it's not like we have a huge lines waiting to play a casual set. Our main TO also likes a bunch of games, and he's always up to get some going. Despite only consistently running Guilty brackets for anime, our scene likes to play a lot of different games. If you can find 5 people with 5 bucks who want to run a bracket for your game of choice, TO's will try to find the time and space to run it. There's a core group of 5 people who almost always show up, so no guilty bracket is very rare. In the event that it does happen, casuals are still more than welcome. We recently started running events twice a month, with Smash every Friday, if that's your thing. Both of our "biweekly" TO's have busy personal lives, so the weekends of the month fluctuate a bit. Rules --- Guilty Gear Xrd [PS3] - BYOC - Double Elimination - 2/3 matches with 3/5 for Winner's, Loser's, and Grand Finals - Loser can change his/her character - Please take a shower - Please don't be a dick - Food is allowed, but please pick up after yourself. Hope to see some new faces on the 11th.
  15. Does the bay area really count as part of the central valley? Regardless, anyone's welcome. You've probably seen me get salty at someone online if you play in public lobbies (i cannot handle Venom in netplay, genuinely sorry), but we're really chill in person. Smash got split off to friday weeklies, so we have tons of space now at the venue for casual setups for whatever people would want to bring. Due to the small size of the core group we're lacking offline matchup experience unless you play Venom, Ky, May, I-no or Chipp and would jump on the chance to grind casuals all day. A couple of us were discussing carpooling down to the bay area event after we stop needing to save that gas money for EVO.
  16. Neither one of them has showed up to locals in months We've got a a decent sized scene, but there's only a core group of like 6 people who actually reliably sign up at events and keep Guilty going. The skill disparity is pretty big, and we have a lot of low level players to grind with. https://www.facebook.com/groups/207385072653458/ Just starting a second event every month. Flier for the next one should be up soon, for a week or two from now. Both our TOs have busy private lives so stuffs a little inconsistent on timing, but it always happens. Don't worry if Guilty drops off the flier, they'll always run a bracket if 5+ people sign up(this goes for any other game to). They always drop a game off the flier when a bracket doesn't run, poor marvel and ki have dropped on and off more times than I can count. The only time we didn't have a bracket was the weekend of Northwest Majors, when something like 80% of our scene was out of town. Gonna put up a locals thread soon to try and start getting people to come in. At NCR I discovered there's a bunch of valley players that aren't even aware of the local scene.
  17. Does 6h+s work as reliable OS against his 6h? I'm not actually sure what the window between the i-frames and the active frames are, so I have no idea if c.s can beat it out if he ends up a little too far away/
  18. That's not been my experience at all. You're still owned if you happen to ball set a few frames after she does a sword set, and if she stays mobile it's still a risky idea to try and knock her out of the sky with how well she can stall her momentum and counterhit your 6p. You're still autodead if she touches you midscreen and you don't have dead angle or burst too. Still feel fucking miserable playing against her to be honest.
  19. Has anyone figured out a single worthwhile air throw combo in the corner? c.s > j.h doesn't even give you a hard knockdown on light characters, as I'm sure everyone's figured out already. Best I've been able to figure is to c.s > S set > 6p > 6h > qv. Only does 64 damage and sideswaps. Try not to get bursted into the corner. Only useful if it'll kill them, or they're a light character. Extensions off the QV are possible with or without meter depending on the character. Even comboing in the first place seems really dependent on height of the throw.
  20. I can't wrap my head around baiting his DP. I can get them to throw it out, but figuring out how to space myself during K ball so that it whiffs so it's actually punishable is another story.
  21. If he got good rewards off heat knuckle/extend outside of the corner i'd be inclined to agree he's at least a solid B. He still only shines once he gets you cornered, and he doesn't really have reliable tools to get you there.
  22. I've been having the same thing happen for a few months now. I even put my router into DMZ mode to see if it was a port forwarding issue, and it didn't change a thing.
