Yay art supplies for christmas~ Breakin' in a new sketchbook and pencils I got, so have a sketch of one of my OCs. No prizes for guessing the inspiration behind the character.

Thanks everyone, I was originally thinking of starting with gold but now that I look at it again, yeah red's probably the best option. As for the lines, I know about it. It looks fine in 100%, but when I resize it it starts showing white specks. Easy fix, if annoying, but thanks for speaking up at least. @Shaffler:

Dropping off a WIP here for feedback, just curious what color scheme you guys like most: CHOKYAKU...HO'OUSHOU Regular Colors Gold Custom Palette Ama's Custom Palette Some things need to be fixed with the resizing, since lol the original image is like 3500 by 4300 pixels and this is 33%, but like I said, WIP.

Solar basically just went into more detail on what I was talking about. I suppose I should clarify on the "lighter pencil strokes". The way the paper was scanned made it seem like you were pressing down your pencil very hard. Not only does this damage the paper, but it also does other bad things like make it harder to erase. I'd recommend to use the Posemaniacs 30 Second Pose Viewer to get an idea of how the body works, muscles fall, and etc. You don't have to do 30 seconds at first, try 90 at first and speed it up as you go. Obviously shouldn't be putting lots of effort into these sketches though. For facial features, hands, feet, I'd recommend looking into some of George Bridgman's books. He emphasizes the planes of the body to show the shapes, and it helps render a 2D image to look "full". Considering your level, I'd also recommend "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain." It's a VERY good book for people to learn how to draw, not telling you any step-by-step, but telling you what to look out for in your drawings. I'd also ask to pardon my rudeness; too many times have I seen people post terrible art in front of me, ask for feedback, then when I attempt to politely critique they promptly shut down and become entirely too defensive. The fact you didn't though is a good thing, keep practicing anatomy and drawing from life and you'll be able to apply that to your own unique "style" and be a good artist.

Learn anatomy. Stop trying to draw anime. Use lighter pencil strokes. Stop smudging to shade. Etc. Etc.

Went ahead and updated first post again. Figured it's a good idea to stay in that habit. @Michi: You have no idea how hard it was to actually get down the positioning and poses. Spacing was harder than...fighting Potemkin as Jam and staying out of Pot Buster range. @Yaya: It's a simple idea really; I'd rather draw naked women and men in heavy armor than naked men and women in heavy armor. @Sorael: I BLAME DRAWING JAM FOR GIVING AWL DEM LADEHZ DAT ASS and dammit you guys stop calling him jesus knight as awesome as that is. @Shaffler: See above. Spacing was too hard as it was, and giving them clothes would defeat the purpose. *shrug* @Arctus: Dat delicious Mitsuru. At least I'm not the only one who sees the similarities Tsubaki has to her.
