Xrd PS3 Performance Issues and Future Tournament Standard?
qwerty replied to B.Z.B's topic in Guilty Gear General
Just because it hasn't reached your news feed yet doesn't mean people aren't talking about it. I realize there is no hard data available yet, but the game has been out, what, two weeks? Give it time. I think I made my point pretty clear: we don't know for sure just how well this port performs yet. There's a lot of anecdotal reports of slowdown/hiccups, but so far there haven't been any hard comparisons made with the PS4 version. I believe Arcsys did their best to make the game as playable as possible on PS3, but it's also entirely possible that it doesn't run as they wanted it to out in the wild. Things like this are not always immediately apparent, especially when the game just came out and most people haven't played any other version. For reference, it took several years for the speed difference between arcade and PS2 AC to become common knowledge. I'm not trying to spread uncertainty, I promise. I may end up buying a PS4 sooner than I had planned, and if/when that happens I'll conduct some tests myself. -
Sometimes I'll use CSE for oki, then run up -> 2K to beat wakeup mashing. Then the CSE combos and you can RC and do whatever. Pretty sweet, right? Just make sure you don't get out-mashed. But yeah, this matchup sucks lol. Lots of FD jumping, air Stunedges, rising j.K/airthrow, and patience are what you're going to need.

Xrd PS3 Performance Issues and Future Tournament Standard?

I feel like I've come off as slightly more pedantic than I intended. I'm not saying that the PS3 port is unplayable, but it does skirt the line at times, and my concern is simply that there's no way to tell for sure how well it performs in tournaments until it's too late. It doesn't make much sense to me as to why the NA community would use the PS3 version for tournaments when the only things the PS3 has going for it are stick compatibility and price. Even then, that didn't stop this community from deeming the PS3 as the standard console back when it was $200-300 more than the 360 and sticks were relatively scarce. Besides, seeing as much of this game's appeal is in its aesthetics, why wouldn't we want to showcase the better looking version of the game? You can still play the PS3 version at home and use it to practice, as I do, and switch between the two with no/minimal adjustment. But the world should not be getting its impression of Xrd from a version with no transparencies or anti-aliasing. -

Just because something isn't easily recreated doesn't mean it's not there. At this point it's pretty well known among people that have played other versions of the game that there is slowdown, albeit it's not consistent and so far hasn't proven to be that detrimental. (As an aside, you are abusing the definition of "scientifically proven", but that is not a discussion I'm trying to have on a gaming forum) This game, on this platform, has an erratic tendency to underperform. This same game on another platform has no such issues. Which would you choose to be the tournament standard? -

Because if a game doesn't sell half a million its first week, it's an irredeemable failure. I'm mildly curious as to how PS3 and PS4 version sales compare in Japan and NA. -
Xrd PS3 Performance Issues and Future Tournament Standard?

Before anyone says "well if it's only slowing down at unimportant parts, why fuss?"; the fact of the matter is that there's slowdown at all, and it could theoretically happen at any point, given enough is happening on screen. -

The game consistently reads inputs at 60fps, even during bits of slowdown. So it wouldn't necessarily affect the game reading your inputs, but it would be affecting how you see the characters on screen. Arcsys confirmed this much on Twitter. So far, I've yet to have the game slow down at a point where it'd really matter (mixups or something), it's all been on moves that inflict a lot of hit stun/untech time anyways (CH Fafnir, Ky 6H, etc.). The issue I'm having isn't that these things are in the game, it's that they're inconsistent. Recreating screen blur or slowdown is proving to be pretty difficult. I've had the screen blur on me by just sitting in training mode doing nothing. -

There is slowdown in both modes, which is apparently obvious to anyone who's played the PS4/arcade versions. Not to mention the game seems to hiccup whenever the poly render limit is hit and it adjusts the resolution (this is why the screen blurs sometimes). So, no, there are issues and people need to be made aware of them. I wish Sony would get their heads out their asses and just patch in PS4 compatibility with all PS3 controllers. It'd save everyone a lot of headache. -
Just watched the whole set. I counted two attempts at mist unblockables, one of which was bursted and the other was a mistimed 3H. Again, not that mist setups are bad, but you have to account for the spacing you have after enkasu and the options your opponent has.
-
Can't watch that video at the moment, but I never said there was anything wrong with unblockable setups. It's just that you have to account for the fact that the opponent has options on wakeup, which means that even under the most ideal of circumstances they're not really "loopable". Anji is a character that has a harder time than most dealing with Johnny okizeme if you ask me, so it would make sense that Satou would go for those, especially if he uses the setups I'm thinking he did.

No need to post the whole list, man. Just your info is all I need. I don't want to list cities/prefectures if I don't have to, but if the netcode doesn't improve it might become necessary.

Sol is the new king of netplay. Run up 2P, Wild Throw/Fafnir. -

I'm actually able to find players at a steady delay 2 now. It's not a huge improvement, but matches are at least playable. Also, I find that the game looks slightly better when ran at 720p. There also doesn't seem to be any slowdown at all. -

Depending on the moves in question, that may actually be arcade perfect. I've seen the arcade version slow down with two RTL's on screen. -

From what I've heard, PS4 stays the same. -

PS3 framerate seems pretty consistent even on "quality" settings. There's very, very slight slowdown on some moves, but it's not enough to make a huge difference. Still, once I get my external upscaler I'll see if the game runs better with the internal resolution set to 720p. -

Actually, I'm basing that on having seen numerous UE3 games scaled down for weaker hardware. PS3 Xrd has all the telltale signs: low res textures, screwed up transparency effects, etc. So no, not "baseless internet rumors". I realize this is the PS3 we're talking about, and they had to make sure the game could run at a comparable framerate to make it cross compatible with PS4, but I was hoping it'd be just slightly better looking than it is. Keep in mind that is at the bottom of my list of complaints, with the netcode being numero uno. Not that I was expecting too much on that front, either, but playing within the same country at delay 4 all night left a bad taste in my mouth. -

Reading things as you want to understand them: typical Dustloop. The game is great, I've been playing it in arcades for almost a year now and have very few issues with it. The PS3 port is what I take issue with. What I'm getting at is that the typical connection is bad enough to have very obvious visual lag and occasional desyncs. I'm not acting like I know exactly what the reason for this is, but I am telling you that is what I and many others are experiencing. -

I mean, I can record a video if you'd like, lol. I'm just telling you that the complaints are not coming from nowhere, that the netcode really is that bad, and that there's no reason not to believe that it's that bad even within Japan. -

Even sub par internet should work if the players are close enough. I have a 2Gb connection, playing exclusively in Tokyo lobbies, and the best match I've had so far has fluctuated between delay 3 and 4. I still had to input everything super early, couldn't play on reaction, etc. -

I was talking about the netcode, though the graphics are pretty disappointing, as well. -

People here aren't complaining over nothing, dude. It's sub-AC quality, and I'm not exaggerating. -

I'm pleased to report that the PS3 version runs just fine offline, regardless of image quality. The bad news is... everything else. Netcode is abysmal, everything starts as delay 2 but progressively gets worse. The graphics have taken a pretty severe hit, worse than I would have imagined. Imagine playing a modern PC game on the lowest settings and you're not too far off. Granted, this is a cross generational port, and I wasn't expecting amazing netcode or arcade perfect visuals, but this has fallen short of my rather modest expectations. -

Indeed. But the question is if it will remain that way. The fact that they've already taken the liberty of modifying an otherwise consistent rule to reduce the versatility of certain moves, combined with the fact that people have been complaining about the lack of on-hit FRC mixups since the game was announced, leads me to believe that we will, at some point, see some moves that you can YRC on hit.
