  1. Check out the video I posted. I'm pretty sure you can still hit confirm into Silent Force with j.S like that, which is an excellent way to get in. Honestly though, if you can jump in with Millia and just force your opponent to block your air normal you are already winning. Most of the time you will be able to continue pressure when you land, and that's your opportunity to use her great mixup game.
  2. I think maybe the main problem is I'm using an octo gate, which makes it a lot harder to find that 9 corner. I'm planning to swap it back to a square, and then I guess I'll just keep trying the motion slowly and hopefully eventually it'll happen... Cool, thanks! When I get PS4 Xrd I think I'm gonna try that blue V4 Hayabusa. edit: and thanks for making this thread, Teyah. It's very helpful.
  3. Any tips on performing TK Bad Moon with a stick? So far I haven't been able to do it at all, but I've been doing tiger knee motions on a pad for years...
  4. Nice. I wonder what kind of stick he's using. It looks like it requires a lot less effort to dash with than a JLF.
  5. Air dashing and jump-ins with Silent Force or j.S or j.P. Here's some #Reload tournament footage. Things are basically still the same, if slower: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8rB1d0ek_0#t=994
  6. One of my friends came over and we played for a while, and I realized that the real problem with the PS3 version is the netplay. As some other people mentioned, the UI elements like character portraits and health/tension bars get blurred out as if they were being swapped for lower-res textures, and the same thing seems to happen to the character models during heavy action. It's most noticible when it doesn't happen, because things will be really smooth and crisp for a few seconds and then go back to the blur. While I was playing 2-player offline this stuff barely happened, and I didn't see the UI elements blur at all. I guess running the netcode and whatever else is going on in network mode is just a bit too much for the PS3 to handle. This also might explain the cross-platform issues people said they were having.
  7. Honestly you might just want to try playing Arcade Mode for a while. The computer is somewhat predictable but it's a good mid-step between just doing practice mode and fighting skilled human players, which can be intimidating. Arcade Mode will give you a sense of how to use Millia's moves in context. Just keep practicing. And despite what people say, you don't need to be doing instant air dash combos all the time. I feel like a lot of people get intimidated with games like Guilty Gear because the more pro players tend to have an attitude of "do the most perfect, most complicated, most optimal combos all the time or don't play the game until you can." That is a dumb mentality to have toward people who are just starting out. You need to learn the fundamentals first, and it will take a while, so don't worry about it or rush too much. Just have fun.
  8. Can we talk about how to use Chroming Rose? To me it seems like it only triggers when dashing and on specials, and I am not personally seeing how people are getting so much use out of it. What kinds of setups, traps or combos are most optimal while it's active? edit: Is this an ideal example? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5B_0ssd8dyY#t=44 Looks like it involves a lot of Bad Moon spam.
  9. Is the DS4 really that much stiffer than a PS2 controller? That sucks, because I think I'm going to be using one for a month or so...
  10. What does (3) indicate there? I've seen people using numbers in parentheses and I have no clue what that means.
  11. A lot of Millia's fundamentals going back to GGX involve using her crouching HS to air juggle the opponent and following up with attacks in the air, using air dash to extend the combos further. Silent Force (qcb S) allows you to get more float time on a juggled opponent and also can stun them when you're jumping or dashing in, although it has been significantly slowed in Xrd. Millia also has some excellent mixup tools in her arsenal, like IA Bad Moon, Iron Saviour, and her 6K overhead. Her ground game involves getting a knockdown and then keeping your opponent in block state with HS Tandem Top or Secret Garden, forcing them to guess how to block. Personally I am also a huge fan of her 6P, which staggers, but it has slow startup so watch out. I have also found that her 6HS seems to catch many people off guard in Xrd due to its extreme range on the second hit, and perhaps because it is a new move. Anyway those are just some basics. I've played Millia for a long time but I'm hardly a pro. edit: Her tandem top overdrive, Emerald Rain, is a pretty good use of meter. You can cancel normals and specials into it and it causes wall bounce, which allows you to combo afterwards.
  12. It's official Ishiwatari art. Try "search Google for this image" in Chrome. And nice choice picking Millia. She is elegant and fantastic and has a very high skill ceiling!
  13. Really, is the joystick different from a Sanwa one somehow? I have the Madcatz Soul Calibur V one and I didn't really notice a difference when I put a bat top on it.
  14. I just got Xrd yesterday and I live in Boulder. I'd love to play against some of you guys who live nearby, and maybe organize some kind of Xrd meetup or tournament! My PSN is Zen_Ataraxia.
  15. Can't you practice the timing for that in its specific tutorial level? Seems like it would be pretty easy to get a sense of it after just repeating that one a few times. Anyway, I've been playing GG since 2002 and I always disliked FRCs because of the entry barrier they caused. I am in the camp that thinks playing fighting games is about fighting other people, not practicing miniscule frame timing by oneself for dozens or hundreds of hours. But my problem with Xrd is not reversal timing. Rather, it's the fact that the online community seems to be very opaque... Maybe it's just my subjective experience so far, but no one really seems to exchange messages in casual matchups and I am getting the vibe that it will be very difficult to make friends and have any kind of regular companions to practice with. And that really kills half the joy of playing the game, for me. I wish I could find people to play with in person in my town, rather than sitting in a room alone and silently fighting (with lag) against people who probably live very close to me.
  16. lol, that is a good point.
  17. So does anyone have an opinion on why they nerfed Silent Force/Pin? Apparently she's still top-tier anyway, but I just started playing last night and the change took some getting used to. And btw, does anyone have any tips for doing it on a stick? I'm having a lot of trouble with it for some reason, and I don't know if it's because I switched to an octo-gate on my stick or just because the vast majority of my Guilty Gear experience was on a PS2 pad. I guess I need to go train for a while...
  18. Is the V4 Hayabusa moddable with a standard bat top? That might be what I get, if so. I've only used Sanwa parts before, but Hori seems like a much better deal for the price. Edit: Maker, if you open it up you can always duct tape a couple weights inside the case, lol.
  19. Big deal. They could easily patch the game to include the driver, and they're aware that it exists. And no, horrible jaggy 3D with blurriness and tearing does not look like pixelated sprites. Sorry if I sound overly negative or mad but I've anticipated this game more than any other in the past five years, and now apparently I have to spend $700 to play it right.
  20. Man, I feel sort of cheated. I've been rabidly anticipating this game for like a year and a half based on the arcade footage, and I was expecting a decent port on PS3, at least something close to the arcade experience. I figured it was going to have the same clean look the original game has, which is essential to pulling off its amazing illusion of appearing to be 2D. Instead we got this blurry, sludgy mess with no anti-aliasing and all kinds of subtle graphics issues. And yeah, I can tell the music sounds awful too. It's hard to consider the PS3 version of the game a proper port, honestly. It barely runs. I am considering buying a PS4 now just to play Xrd in its real glory, but the fact that they aren't using Lab Zero's driver to make it compatible with PS3 sticks annoys me a lot. Arcsys should not be partnering with stick manufacturers to screw players out of another $200. It's too greedy.
  21. Thanks for the feedback. I kinda figured it wouldn't be ideal since it's old and non-Sanwa, but the price is pretty low. I might pick it up anyway, just because I wanted one back in 2003 and couldn't afford it back then. They also have the old SVC Chaos stick at this store, which I think is the same thing with a normal 6-button layout. That could be a good compromise. Then again, I could just try to get something more modern... Any recommendations for an alternative? I've read that the SF4 Tournament Edition stick is the best thing around, but it seems to be quite expensive. edit: I should add, I'm not a super-serious pro player or anything, but I do love Guilty Gear. I just want something around the $100 range that doesn't suck.
  22. Not exactly what this topic was about, but I'm wondering if anyone has opinions on the old GGXX PS2 Sammy stick. A local game store has one new in box for $80, and I played with it for a minute and it feels pretty nice. It can be used with PS3 with an adapter, so I was thinking about picking it up. The one thing I noticed about it was that the stick itself seems pretty tight. Not awfully so, but it seemed like dashing and airdashing was a bit of a chore. I'm not sure if it would be better in the long run to have a tighter stick or a looser one. The buttons seem fine. Any opinions appreciated!
  23. Hey, I used to have #r installed on my computer but lost it in a hard drive crash. I just reinstalled it yesterday, and I found that I have the same problem with the music that I used to. When stages are loading, it plays the correct music, and then switches back to the character select music for a few seconds. Then when the stage actually loads, it plays the stage music for a bit and then cycles back to the loading music. This is really annoying since I like the GGXX music a lot, and this problem seems to have appeared out of nowhere back when I originally had the game installed. Also, the title screen looks weird, with the logo greyed out. Could that be related? My sound card is an onboard one that isn't too great, but I'm using a vanilla 6800 for video so I don't think that's the problem. Has anyone else ran into these issues before? I'm thinking maybe the game files have been corrupted somehow...
