[Xrd] News & (Theoretical) Gameplay Discussion
Destin replied to Shinjin's topic in Guilty Gear General
Maybe in the next iteration in a year, for now I would prefer to see where this went. And I'm on board with just now, if they put FRC's back, 4f MINIMUM, I would take it more like 8f windows. Note: I have some of the better execution around when I'm in practice, it wouldn't really affect me. But I have tried to get people into this game and build communities, and then re: everything henkai said. -

And they said that they slowed down the pace for the bullet time. So I wonder what about the previous lower hitstop (hitstun is the frames the person is vulnerable while both chars are moving, hitstop is the frames where the game stops moving for both players when contact is made) and dash velocity made it not mesh well. Messing with the pace of a game is IMO one of the largest changes you can make, so I doubt it was done lightly. -

Doesn't anyone know what they did to slow the pace of the game down as daisuke said? -

How does the YRC freeze work, is your character actually hittable? How would millia's have changed that much, can't you just yrc a bit earlier and still have it hit on the same frame? I generally dislike dp's having a 25% meter way to make them safe, I like it even less on whiff. I'm glad it's out, but I could see why some people who dp too much are satly. Frame advantage frc's are in there, at the cost of 50% meter. I can hammerfall RC and get likely an even bigger combo, probably 6H super or some sillly shit. Remember you can YRC most moves before they are active. FRC's were too good for the meter (often, not always). So now they basically cost more meter (unless its projectile YRC's which are even better for the most part). -

Yes but we want an easier bridge for them between what we are doing, and what they are doing. If novice people are able to experience more of the mindgames and fun we have, then they will likely stay around longer to hit higher level. Hate it or hate it, but SF4 did a great job of making a game that pulled new people in and kept them there towards the competetive level. -

Doesn't the current RC system cover every situation the old FRC's did, just for more meter? -

So they did what exactly to decrease the pacing of the game to level out with it? Move speed? Increase the hitstop? The "bullet time" doubles the frames of the opponents actions right? That should be linear, the jarring effect should be equivalent regardless of the "pace" of the game. -

And not necessarily a bad thing. @elven: yeah, I don't mind the bullet time or anything, they said that it broke up the flow so they slowed the games pace down to match. Why not just change the duration of the slow instead to keep the pacing. That's all. -

I really like this info, I'm glad they were on the same page as me. Couldn't they have decreased the pace and decreased the change in bullet time?? -

Maybe koichi just dropped him because he wanted to play rammy from the start? -

These all seem reasonable, or slash yrc air dash cross ups ect. -

It seems very unlikely that ram's swords hit overhead in any way. That would be retarded of arc. I would guess they function as projectiles for the purpose of bs. -

I have dreamed of the day when I could play dizzy with her pre-transformation baguette and some real clothes on. -

A good rule of thumb: If a top level japanese player is doing something that seems random, he is probably doing it for reasons you don't understand yet. -

That's a pretty broad definition for the word. How does it differ from just being a good word? I don't think faust has exceptionally strong rush down or defense, he just has a strong neutral game. -

They have many buttons that fill similar roles in the poking game. Dizzy/Faust: J.s/j.h 2d/2h 5k/5p 5h/5s F.s/5k 2k/2p They aren't perfect analogues, but I would say in #R faust is the closest to dizzy, it's just not immediately obvious. Their loose neutral gameplan is fairly close too (they both try and setup either items or fish to cover their movement in. The opponent usually tries to prevent this.) -

Wait, I thought slash ky was pick up and play. Maybe Moreso than AC pot. I guess it's hard for me to say "pick up and play", because I have been playing Guilty gear for 10 years now and have a cursory experience with every char. But I have never picked up someone like AC pote and been able to do so good in the history of GG. I mean, being able to block is necessary with almost any char (and I agree it's more necessary with pote than almost anyone else). Note: I have nothing but respect for dedicated pote players. Maybe the mostso of all of the GG players. Those guys tend to be the most technical and devoted players, and really love it. That being said, the pick up and play pote players have gotten more eye rolls from me than counterpick slayer players back in #R. And when I watch the vids, I often would find myself saying "man they realllly didn't deserve that win." -

@henaki It's even more complex than what you posted about it, but the GENERAL idea is roughly true. I always wonder if 6-4 related to a single round, or a 2/3. I'm guessing a single round. And you have to admit AC pote was his easiest version! I don't think any other pote was "easy" though. (In the gg sense of the word at least) -

Decreasing damage is the same as increasing the number of matches. It exacerbates the apparent difference in tiers, its harder to take a 3/5 match in an 2-8 matchup than a 2/3 ect. Eddie is way way way easier I think than you are making him out to be king of heart. And ky is more difficult to play at high high level than people seem to think. I find eddie to be the easier of the two by a margin, he just takes more training mode time. The only character in GGXX's history that I could have ever considered to be pick up and play was AC pote... -

Hellfire is tame enough that it's fine. Ultra's are game defining, hellfire makes the moves a bit better. I actually like it, because people use the moves where they generally didn't before. In short, it seems to add to more diversity of moves and playstyles. I don't know why we have pages on danger time, it happens so rarely...
