  1. Thanks Chun. I appreciate the heads up, so keep me informed with the SJSU clubroom venue. Find out which days work out best for the club advisor and we can work from there. I don't mind charging people venue fees for room usage, but try to keep it to a minimum. Also guys, I have a proposition; I suggest we start charging a -small- venue fee that will go for the following: - Room Usage ($1) - Subsidize future hotel costs ($2) - End-of-the-year Ranbat pot + Raffle prizes. ($2) I want to say $10 per ranbat ($5 for pot and $5 for future investments). Here's the rub; end-of-the-year ranbat pots will be distributed evenly between the following games: - Blazblue CS - Guilty Gear AC - Melty Blood AA The game that has the greater amount of crossovers will get a bigger ranbat pot. You heard me - that means BB won't always have the meaty pot. If you guys are interested in this idea, then I'm going to open up a NCI savings account with US Bank. Question, "How will I know that you won't use the extra pot money for your own selfish desires?" Answer, "Keep me accountable; I have nothing to hide. I won't share you my personal information, but I can show you the bank statements. This is a community effort and I have no reason to take money from it...even though I should." If you guys like the idea, then send feedback galore!
  2. I played BB in the arcade for two years with the start button next to my elbow, left pinky, right index finger and halfway across the board. The moment you learn how to taunt loop in the arcade, you can do it anywhere. Granted, it took me a solid eight months to do it, but it paid off.
  3. I'm not a Jew, but just a salty old man like Jeff. So yeah, I want something new and shiney.
  4. It's too bad BB is a boring game. Otherwise, I'd have more respect for Nezu.

  8. That would be the ideal solution, but the reality is that we won't be able to find a venue that can hold a tournament of our size. We no longer have DeVry University or EUdemonia. The good news is that the FG community @ EUdemonia has some renewed interest to host BB. Here's the premise for -fragmenting- the BB community, 'Empower the players to build up their fighting game scene using NCI's name to help establish their local FG community.' In retrospect, SF4 has been 'fragmenting' their community by hosting Battle of the Bay; just look at their stream. I understand that SF4 has a big community, but don't forget that BB had the biggest turnout at NCI for good reason; many local FGers, oblivious to DL and MB, wanted to get a taste of man-to-man competition - and they enjoyed it. Therefore, it's more important to empower those players with a consistent -local- FG scene. Here's the crux; it doesn't have to be competitive. Whoever is in charge of that regional tournament can do w/e they want to build it. They could just say, 'Hey, let's do a random tournament for fun. You don't have to pay to enter, but if you get seeded, then you'll be representing our FG community at SUPER NCI!' ->> GIVE MORE POWER TO THE PLAYERS; NOT THE TOURNAMENT ORGANIZERS! This is also a proven business model. The moment you have too much ownership over something (aka the music industry), you'll lose money cause people will think you're just a fascist nazi. So, yes, what you say is true. Hosting a monthly ranbat would be able to do the trick, but that's also how West Toast died. The moment Arlieth left the FG crew, everything fell apart; my assumption is that we don't want that to happen to the NorCal crew. Pretty much this, but you also forget that people who don't travel will play games at their local scene. You're under the assumption that everybody is competitive or vice-versa. People go to tournaments to -surprisingly enough- not participate or just have fun while getting bodied. This is BB man; you, of all people, should know that this game rewards mashing. And, regardless of what you think, mashing is fun for a lot of people. The SVGL community has a completely different vibe in comparison with someone who plays casuals at a LAN center. They're both good communities, but they have different preferences on how they play. Krispy Creme is facing -near- bankruptcy cause they didn't want to change their business mindset; look at them now. Likewise, NorCal is just about bankrupt. The question is, 'How do we reach out to people who have never tasted fiery fierce competition?' You could keep the competitive mindset (which I'm 100% down for), but do nothing to encourage casual games. For example, Sacramento is one of those places where people don't care enough about competitive games. That's fine, but you shouldn't force a competitive scene there, rather, adjust to the needs of the community. This is why I want you guys to go back to the mission statement, NorCal INSTALL! seeks to expose the new generation of Fighting Gamers to the classics while building stronger social networks within the FG community. If you want the NorCal scene to survive, then you got to do more than just host tournaments. So yeah Qwerty, I recommend you just open up your apt rec room for mashy casuals and ranbat seeding. Call it, "SALTY RAGE-QUIT COMMUNITY!" Be creative. Yes. Do what you can to establish your FG community.

  11. Once again, thanks for coming out everyone to our extraordinary hype event; you guys are awesome. All in all, the tournament was successful, however I need to get some constructive feedback from the players and other -noteworthy- tournament organizers. I posted this a while back at the DL forums, Meltybread, and the Berkeley thread, but I also need feedback from the people here. *** Setup and Equipment [Current Count]: Guilty Gear CRT: 0 TV: 0 PS2s: 0 GGAC: 0 Melty Blood CRT: 0 PS2: 0 MBAA: 0 Blazblue LCDs: 0 TVs: 0 CRTS: 0 PS3 w/ DLC: 0 PS3 w/o DLC: 0 PS3 BBCS copies: 0 *** Tournament Rules: - Double Elimination. - Best 2/3 matches. The Future of NCI The first Saturday of each month is the -official- ranbat for the following games: - Guilty Gear AC (Hosted by KatanaDash) - Melty Blood AA (Hosted by Tsubasa) - Blazblue CS (Hosted by Spirit Juice and Aginor) The bi-weekly sessions are for one the following reasons: - Determining Regional Ranbats - Local Casual Sessions - BBCS Stream 101 Tournament Entry: $6 [$3 for each additional tournament entry] - $3 dollar community fee is split between venue fee and future community projects. 13. Okay, so with all the hype and drama done n' done, it's high time we get a close on this thread. GGs Crosell: I'm still thinking about how to send the equipment to you.
  14. All things, said and done, were done while I was under the influence of rage. I apologize to everyone for my -lack- of happy words, and sound judgment, but I only hope that my rage post will help to re-unite our community to one big happy family. I just never thought I'd live to see the day that it would create some drama-llama. So how about we just forgive each other and move on? :] Ginseng hated it; he threw away Mion like she nothing but stuffed toys. Speaking of stuff, I still have your cables in my car. O3o
  15. If you think that I'm condescending people in the community; if you thought that NCI was a terrible tournament; if you can tell me that you've seen somebody other than Scott n' Jeff start a tournament; if you can tell me that I'm disillusioned to the reality that nobody cares enough to start their own gig; then you have every right to call me overbearing and disillusioned. I'm only telling people the truth - even if it hurts. I don't mean to be rude, but I'm done playing the nice guy routine and standing my ground. I've been running NCI GG/MB tournaments every month for the past year which, oblivious to most BB brethren, has helped me gain the experience to run the minor tournament. I busted my ass off to find venues, talked to hotel management, communicated with SoCal n' MB, IRC, talked with Max (Zenmetsu) on how to organize an event, and was the -only- person to communicate with Haunts and Koogy on a daily basis. You don't like the IPW stream, then tell Haunts how to make it better! You didn't like my free raffle prizes giveaway, I'm sorry you didn't get it. Are people frustrated with me being a douchebag cause I'm always nagging people to get their ass in gear; deal with it and try doing something of your own caliber. If you do, then I'll be happy to listen. I'm sorry that I'm a nice guy and try to do things right even though I'm right. Am I right? I found it amusing that I only wanted to give you constructive feedback, but you lash back at me cause I told the truth. We go back since CT and you should know -more than anyone else- that I'm the least condescending person you ever met. I'm giving you sound advise whenever necessary and even taught you how to do a three-man round robin. By the way, thank you for calling me while I was asleep. It's posts like this, and everything else that culminated from an entire year of hard work, that makes me not want to organize another tournament. If you guys really care for the scene to revive from the bottom-up, then I'm giving you the tools to make it happen. If you don't like it, then leave it and do something else. I know NorCal doesn't communicate, so I'm empowering select individuals to help take over the hype train before it dies. I gave you all connections to IPW, Brokentier, TheBBVlog, Tauntloop, MeltyBread and EUdemonia. It's up to you to make the best of it, but if nobody steps up to the plate, then nothing will happen. People won't organize events and the BB hype train will die in a blaze of fire. I have -yet- to meet people who do not appreciate the way I handle things. I would like you to introduce those people to me so I can find out how to make events more hype. As for the greater good, I would think that my sacrifice to you guys -at the cost of my precious time- would mean that I shouldn't invest anything into this community. Am I right? The point is, 'If you have a problem with me, then tell me. If you want something done, then be a problem solver and not a bench warmer. You don't know how to organize an event, I'll tell you how to do it and make it hype!' To deny the very roots of our being is to deny our entire existence. If you think that I should die in the fire, then tell me what I do wrong. TELL ME! I have two ears and a mouth. Hell, everyone in NorCal has an ear to listen and a mouth to shttalk. Let's use it. Oh yeah, the 5v5 BBCS NorCal vs. SoCal was terribly organized for good reason. If a player is missing, then don't spend an hour trying to figure out who gets the qualifier. This is why I can't trust anyone in NorCal with a big event. Whenever something goes wrong, people panic and can't solve problems. They just put the responsibility on other people and expect them to be the savior of the day. This is why there's nobody here (except for Jake 'KatanaDash', Kijiyama [you are awesome man thanks for the help - I didn't give you a special shout out], Spirit Juice, Ginseng, Tsubasa, Fred 'PhaethonH' and -surprisingly- WhiteBoyWilly [i'll entrust you with more things in the near future]). You want me to stop looking down on people? PROVE IT! Show me that you can man it up n' run a legit tournament. Show me that you're not all baby talk, like Blanka707, and do something productive. Sorry for the long winded post, but this is my rant I've been holding in for the whole year. Edit: Coopa is right. You NEVER put an ego in a tournament. Things go downhill -fast- if you do.
  16. That feedback is retarded. Not taking initiative so somebody else can take it is the reason why NorCal is in the predicament it's in now. Not taking responsibility is alright when you pass it on to somebody else. But when it's demanded of you, you don't like it. You want to see another hype NorCal INSTALL, do something about it. Here's the crux; I'll tell you how to do it!
  17. Nothing is set in stone. Before I go for my break from TO, I want to make sure NCI is heading in the right direction. So I need people's feedback from the long-winded post I made earlier. http://www.dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?9505-NorCal-INSTALL!-v.2-August-28th-(We-HitConfirm-Everything!)&p=743058&viewfull=1#post743058
  18. Do you really want to go to a tournament where people, like this, have a say in the brackets? And -better yet- they'll probably listen to him. I never been to SacAnime, but I can tell the tournaments are already setup for failure.
  19. NCI is not in a position to do a $10 registration fee...at least not yet. Also, yes, $6 for non and $4 for venue.
  20. Point taken and processed. I will split pots not -solely- based on primary turnouts, but overall turnout. There was so much crap that happened at the BBCS team tournament, that I wanted to slam my head in a paper shredder. A lot of BS delayed the tournament for nearly two hours (which I won't go into detail...yet), so we had no choice but to scrap the waseda format and cancel the MB team tournament. As for upping up the registration fee, that will happen as the scene grows larger. Your input is still appreciated. The whole my way or the highway is just me going into a raging frenzy. I want to make everybody happy; I can't please all you flunkies. I will set the rules beforehand and see to it that they get enforced. If you don't like it, then you don't have to come. I love you SoCal brethren and I'll do everything in my power to make tournaments run as smoothly as possible. But if you don't like how I run things, then tell me. If you come next time and you -still- don't like it, then you have no reason to come. Kapeesh? NorCal is lethargic and won't care. You could tell them that the Earth is hurtling towards the sun and they'll still watch their sadlife animu. True story btw.
  21. Why not? The bigger the game, the bigger the pot. BB had the most -primary- turnouts, so it has the bigger pot. I put the entry discount as an incentive for people, who never played a single round of GG/MB, to let them play at a tournament with minimum risk. If you don't like it, then go to a different tournament. Either way, I increased the pot size for you. Take it or leave it. :3 Edit: Just FYI, the largest GG pot size we had at the NCI tournament last season was about $90.
  22. In retrospect, we had more people who played GG as their second choice game. If I charged the full $5, then entrants would've dwindled down from the 40s to the mid 20s, thus, the pot would've been smaller than it already is. $130 > $100. It's your call. If you want more GG entrants, then tell people how to play the game without making them feel like a complete scrub...but BB does that better. So yeah. Same thing with MB pot. $90 > $75 BB just had the most entrants as their primary choice.
