Punch comes out because 'button priority' states that if you hit two buttons as the same time, the lowest leveled button actually comes out ( P > K > S > H > D > R if I recall). Likewise there is an effective 'move priority' list that the game has. Basically when determining your next action it has to look at what is in your input buffer and check that against a list of possible things that could happen. If there is more than one possible action, the game decides what happens based on some formula (possible a fixed button priority as above, or as a list of moves where the game simply could either find the first thing that matches, or find the last thing, it's impossible to say without seeing the code). We basically just wrap up the whole phenomenon with a 'priority' buzzword so we don't have to worry about getting into specifics like these. So to answer your question, it's probably just a side effect of how the game is interpreting your button inputs differently between button priority and a special move priority list. -

Frame trap, probably. When a player looks like he can get out of a pressure string by throwing a quick hit (like a 2P usually), you can get a free hit by leaving a gap between hits of your string so that he has the time to leave guard stun and begin to throw an attack, but not long enough for his attack to go active. There are a few good setups for these... moves that give you good frame advantage are great for this (Jam's 5K in #R was stupid good for this). Moves that can cancel late are good as well. You have to be careful though, if you give them 1F of non-guard stun, you can get supered or DPed if they are good and expect it. You can counter that by instead hitting them again before they leave guard stun, causing you to possibly tag a free hit while they try to input a motion. Lots of scrubby players love to try and mash out attacks while they are under pressure instead of using a proper move, backdash, or just blocking. That gets them killed if you just use a frame trap. -

Yeah, the tiers don't seem to be mattering too much in this tournament, other than Toki being the best and Jagi/Mamiya still being underpowered. Other characters seem to be doing well. Japs always give me hope for this game. Plus our tournament was a hell of a lot of fun (no Toki allowed, 3/5 rounds, 1 match, double elim).

Now that IaMP netplay has proven that it's possible to do a 60fps fighting game with little to no lag across the country, I'm pretty much of the oppinion that any company who can't do decent netplay for their 2D fighter is either stupid or lazy. These are RANDOM people who HACKED a game to have netplay, and it's better than any commertial game has done. Anyway, you won't see netplay for a 2D fighter on PS2 to any real degree. PS3 will be a different story, things put out on that could possibly have netplay. -

To be fair, a C+D isn't the most practical thing for Raoh to start a combo with. USUALLY he lands with a j.B or a 2A... which means you lose a ton of damage just gattling to f.D C+D. Still, Raoh does a lot of damage assuming you can connect a 30 second long combo. -

I hope to see some Japanese matches between Toki and Raoh to see how they deal with getting out of the pressure. I can block most of what Toki throws at me, but the problem is that even if I know what he's going to do, I can't do anything to stop it.

I was pretty sure you couldn't get the second free bar from auto-boost because the meter doesn't build up after you've boosted recently. If you just get a free bar of boost every time you blow back, seems to me like you could have some pretty easy infinites just knocking people onto the wall over and over. Edit: Well I guess not. It's funny because I'm not sure if shit like this is making the game more broken or less. Does this combo work if you start it from say... 2AA 2B D C+D ? Or just from C+D only? He's got plenty of others that come off the combo into blowback, but they are more like ~60-70% from what I've seen. -

It's useful, but people overrate what it's good for. I usually only do it on accident when I'm trying to jump and FD very fast anyway. Situations like Eddie tick throwing you in the corner... you need to jump and block to avoid getting hit by both attacks. Timing to get it at all is based on the startup of your jump. So faster characters it is harder for it to go off at all. Of course if you want to do it properly, the timing is 1F. You want to FD the frame after you initiate a jump. That will give everyone a 2F jump into block. You know you did it right when you don't get smoke shooting off your back feet. -

Uh, okay you boosted 4 times and used a super in the same combo. Even if you can build up the Aura for the super, you aren't going to be able to do that without Boost. It's a cool combo but it's obviously not free. -

It's a glitched out Faultless Defense that only happens in training mode. Just pretend it's actually FD. You should have a manual if you actually bought the game. If you don't, I don't really feel bad for you having no idea what you are doing. But anyway, go to gamefaqs and read the faq for Slash, it will fill you in on the basics. This is a thread for stupid little questions yes, but the question you are asking is on so basic of a level that they can be found on gamefaqs or in the manual. Read up, play the game for a while, get used to things, take it easy. Also don't have hard feelings if I delete posts, I'm just trying to keep this thread somewhat clean. -

Thanks for the shit post buddy. As for VS Ky in XXS... Pote seems to do a pretty good job despite. He has a number of good options out of Ky's stupid lockdowns, and the matchup seems about the same as always to me.

No, that's something different. It's just a glitch where if you throw somebody exactly (or close enough) to when they tech, it counts as another hit in the combo instead of resetting the counter. You can also do it with ground throws, but it's much harder. It's not really a combo. -

On/Heat/HPB/Necro aren't throws, just unblockables. You can connect any of these moves while someone is in guardstun as well. -
