Guilty Gear FAQ Thread - Ask your questions here!
Koozebanian Fazoob replied to Kairi's topic in Guilty Gear General
You might also want to start a FAQ for this forum. You also might link to the gameplay questions thread in your first post. The easiest mod for PS2 is to get a flip top and Swap Magic boot discs. Google for info on them, it's pretty easy to find. They will let you play games from other regions, or backups, on your PS2. -

I'm pretty sure the question had been answered before in the general forum as well, I know we've been over the modding PS2s thing already. I'm a bit irate lately, as you may have noticed. We need a 'stupid questions' thread for the guilty room as well. -

Yeah this is the gameplay forum, I guess I should have specified that this is the thread for your stupid questions related to the gameplay. It's okay though, I mostly deleted it to trim the thread down (good lord have I been deleting posts a lot today). I think you need to register and be logged in to see any of the material on RC. Just log in and hit the 'Content' tab. -

I think it was some joke that Final Showdown made... some sort of a nickname for a technique that Ky can do to pressure/lockdown. I don't think there's anything in particular special about it other than just being a running gag. -

Footsies is really just poking with your feet, for the most part. Optimum range is usually a factor of hit-boxes versus hittable-boxes (where you can be hit). Usually this is as far away as possible where you can still hit the other person. This puts your hittable box as far away as possible (to make you safe from counter attacks or reversal moves) while still keeping an active hit box on the enemy. This is particularly important for Okizemi and poking. -

Footsies are important to a number of characters. Jam uses them a lot, and hell, I poke with low kicks with Axl/Pote a little as well. They aren't near asstupid like 3S where you're main goal in life is to do c.MK > Super... but they are still used. -

No clue on Petshop or Hol Horse. I'll see if I can't dig up any more info later, but the way I'm busy these days... -

Yeah, but I still haven't got an answer yet as to why the DC plays better than the PSX version. -

Kakyoin can kill you in 1 combo, midscreen, with only 1 super bar. I'm sure petshop has a lot worse things anyway... the gamefaqs combo faq was horrible. -

Well, that's decent news I guess. I'd still rather have an admin who's on all the time though, but I guess he's probably busy doing whatever. -

Seriously, what IS Trag up to? He seems to at least come here still, but I haven't heard a thing from him. I just want to make sure someone is managing the back end of the site... like keeping a backup of it incase of a major server crash... paying for the web space... things like that. It would also be nice to have someone making fixes and changes to the site. Just to add, the 'Page X of Y' bar really sucks... it only shows 2 pages forward and backward. It really should be made to be more like 5 each direction, then skip to 10 pages ahead/behind. Navigating large threads or lists is a pain in the ass currently. -

I actually have no idea. Everyone plays the DC/Arcade version though. The DC version does have much better graphics/sound quality though. MUCH better. Might be some stuff hidiously broken in the PSX version too, that we don't know about. I'd ask Charles but he'd just complain that it isn't what the Japanese play, or whatever. -

The Kakyoin combos I've seen are for the DC version. Essentially they all boil down to the same thing... which is a short gattling string into a Tandem Attack. They buffer a shit ton of hits (probablly drumming L>M>H really fast) and then jump over the person and mash on L until it runs out. They can then end it with the Emerald Shot super for a bunch of extra hits. The REALLY retarded version is that you need to have it so a net hits them as you are doing the Tandem Attack setup. What happens then is they are stuck extra long, and you can buffer almost twice as many iterations of whatever strings he does. Ends basically the same way... with so many hits, they just run out of life even taking only 1 damage. The problem with the PSX version is the super flash for the Tandem attack is much, much shorter. You could almost say the PSX version is considerably less retarded. -

I would assume so. You have to actually let them get off The World first, and there are probably ways to safe guard yourself to it (same with The World from IaMP). -

Hol Horse is far from broken. I'm 99% sure you can just roll on wakeup to not get hit by an unblockable like that. The only character who is broken is Pet Shop... he's beyond god tier in terms of ranking (I'm pretty sure he's soft banned though). Kakyoin is S-Tier, next best in the game. His B&B hits 50-60 times for half your life. With a slightly more difficult setup, it does over 100 hits and kills you from full life. Dio/Shadow Dio/Jotaro are not broken, they're pretty average overall. The World has uses, apparently. There's a glitch where if you kill someone in the first round while time is stopped, you can hit setup them to get hit while the second round is starting.... their life bar doesn't fill up and they die in 1 hit. Not really broken, just silly as shit. Also, you really don't need to list the basic moves list elaborately... gamefaqs is there for a reason, and we don't have character specific threads. Just a short version would work. Random Joseph combos I know... yes keep in mind the , means a link, not gattling. 'shj' is short jump, 'sshj' would be super short jump. 'wc' is Wiff Cancel, meaning you can wiff the hit and still cancel it (many normals can cancel into specials even if they wiff, it's like MvC2). 'qc' is quick cancel. Roll from S to another move to bring out your stand and do a move instantly. 'jf' is a just frame... you have exactly 1 frame to hit this link on. These are based on the PSX version, but they all should work on the DC version as well. He has some additional cancels and links he can do in that version though that I don't have listed. I think his dash combos also can get more hits, don't know though. I only have the PSX version. There are a lot more advanced combos I don't really have a grasp on yet. (Normal) L, M 236L 2L, 2L, M 236L L, 3M, 623L (Wallbounce) L, 3M 214S > (Dash Combo) 3H wc.236A 663A 236A+A shj.M |> 3M 214S > (Dash Combo) (Stand) L L M H L wc.3[C] (What the hell is this for?) shj.H |> H 236L, 4A, M.c, 236A+A shj.H |> H 236L, 4A, L M H 214S > (Dash Combo) (Dash Combos) > 2H, 2H, 2H, 2H 236L > 2H, 2H, L L M 236L, 4A, L, M 236L > 2H, 2H, L L M 236L, 4A, jf.L M H 214S > (Dash Combo) > 2H, 2H, L L M 236L, 4A, qc.L M H 214S > (Dash Combo) -

P should never be above K. (I personally think P should have been above K, but that's not how the official layout goes) -
Are you a fucking retard or what? Wait I already know the answer to that...

I use both, but I've been using the Sanwa more to get used to Japanese sticks again (as it's also the newer of the two). I'm a lot faster/better on Happ Super though. Can't do shit with a Happ Comp though, go figure. Can't TK DP or 2*QCF on Sanwa worth a shit, I hope someday to get past that. Most of the reason I use the Sanwa at all is because A) It looks cooler B) It's smaller and more portable C) I'd like to be capable on any type of stick to as much degree as possible.

Frame advantage is positive static difference. To put it simply, if a move causes more hit/guard stun than the move has recovery time, then the person doing the attack recovers before the person who guarded does. He has frame advantage because he can act before the defender. To give you a better idea, imagine Player A has a move that has 5 startup, 5 active, 5 recovery. It's a level 5 move so it causes 18F of guard stun. If the move connects on the first active frame, the move still has 4 active and 5 recovery frames left. That means after 9F, Player A recovers. Since Player B has 18F of guard stun, that means Player A can act 9 frames before Player B, and thus he has a +9 static difference. Thus, he has good frame advantage. Any move with more than 1 active frame also has a variable static difference. The best example of that is M.Bison's slide kick (c.HK). The move has pretty short recovery, but the active time is very long. If he connects close with the slide, the other person can recover from guard stun before the move ends. If he connects right before the active frames end, Bison actually gets frame advantage for the move. -

If that's for the frame data changes then it's refering to the change. It was 10+3 before, now it's 7+2. Otherwise, probably as 4r5 said.
