SBO 2010 Results and Discussion Thread
Kuuhaku replied to Spirit Juice's topic in Tournament Results
It's America (well... one american and was his partner actually from Hong Kong or was he also american?), so probably not. GGs to the Taokaka and Litchi that won. That Taokaka was absolutely crazy, and Litchi was doing some really cool stuff too. Biggest upset was probably Fumo getting beat up by Tetsu. Fumo got a perfect first round, but after Tetsu brought it back from the brink of death... he just kept going. I may have lost one dollar... but, Taokaka beating up on Arakune and Bang was really fun to see. XD; -
Only if you have pumpkin out or if you're in the corner and there's a rod. Unless it's Hazama (and whatever characters that have weird hitboxes like Hazama) crouching in the corner. One of Mao Dong's newer combo videos showed a j2C 5B 6CD loop. Too bad it's only those specific setups though.

Yes. Everyone who's bringing a monitor is bringing one that's playable. Though... speaking of which, since Munsu might not be able to make it, we are short one monitor and one PS2. *offers melon bread to whoever can pitch in the missing setup* Aki-con is pitching in CRTs, though I have to get the number confirmed with them. If anyone can bring those, that'd be awesome. And... in the words of some guy who loves chocolate milk, I need some POWER. STRIPS. ... POWER.

Unless she just winds herself down and 2Bs you. Dohohoho.

That was the idea between her CT -> CS changes. Just like the idea behind CT -> CS Rachel was that people weren't playing her like she was supposed to be played. As for the changes that are being made now- no idea. It's a loketest. They're just throwing things at a wall. I mean, look at the idea that Rachel wasn't being played right, then look at the changes made to her for the first loketest. It's like a weird frankenstein version of CT Rachel. If I had to guess- The change to 5D's invincibility was probably from the complaint that 5D being Noel's only answer to everything made Noel's gameplay pretty braindead. You just had to wait for something 5D could go through and bam! Combo. What they should do is give her back some of her normals and the overhead she lost in CT. But... yeah, it's up to Mori what happens... or whatever angry individual is in charge of the balance changes.
-
I'm pretty sure the train of thought behind Noel's changes was Mori's unhappiness with people not using Noel's drive much. Then they saw that people were using her normals more because they were good... unlike her drive. So... the idea is if they buffed the drive and nerfed her normals, people would use drive more. Too bad her drive still sucks.

:3 It'd be super awesome if Norcal came up too. ^_^ Let me know how that goes~

I don't think they really know what the hell to do with her. If she was meant to be a trap character, then in CS they would have actually given her scary traps instead of sadlife. But I don't mind. Rachel being a hybrid character actually makes her interesting. That's what I liked about her in CT. She had options and you could either play her as a zoning character (except against V-13 who'd kill your face for it), or do crazy (and broken) rush and lock down. A lot of Rachel's crazy shit came from the guard system in CT though. In CS since j2C doesn't take off primer, IMO it's fine for it to normal cancel on block. I'm just glad her gameplay is no longer going to be turtle turtle run away and spam jA cannon and sword iris and do sad mixup and hope they get hit... oh wait, you got hit- gg.
-
Though I am happy with Rachel changes (some are weird as hell, but hey it seems a hell of a lot better already- TD can go die if these changes stick), the number one change I want in BBCS 2 is to make matches SHORTER. You can run like 3-4 GG matches in the time it takes to do one CS match. Though CS Rachel mirror is the worst case scenario of this, one time when I was playing in one of these a guy from our scene went to 7-11 and got food... and by the time he got back we still weren't done. Please change this. It's annoying to have to wait in rotations for a million years because matches take so long.

Someone up here who can read Japanese posted a translation of the JPN website. But... uh... being that it's a translation, I dunno how accurate it is. So don't quote me on that. And... uh... the translation did say that 6B breaks primers. So I dunno. Pretty sure that level 1 j2C doesn't though. EDIT: Nevermind. I asked Spark and the blog (where the loketest information that's flying around from) doesn't say anything about 6B breaking primers. So that could be bad info or maybe noted from another source. He's not sure on the change to j2C from being a high to a mid. We'll probably know more as more information comes out. The loketests are like... 2-3 days.
-
Yeah. That's a weird-ass corner loop. But... I think on block and hit is fine. Since she has to be low enough to land before she can actually cancel into something. And I'm not 100% sure on this, but I heard from someone that j2C might not be an overhead anymore. So... IMO that's fair. The only thing it'd really change is making the 6C -> super low j2C useless.
-
6B does something and Rachel gains an overhead. <3 5B 2B is great and yesss~ Guaranteed Lobelia. Now they just need to make that shiz not bounce off of other projectiles. Also... is j2C cancellable on hit or block or both? EDIT: Nevermind. :3 It's both. <3 Landing recovery on hit and block can be normal cancelled.

Unfortunately, the stage area is going to be in use before 7. But... if we wanted to have a separate meet in someone's hotel room or maybe somewhere else (IDK), that'd be fine. :V Hmm... I thought about it, but it's still not a good idea. Sakuracon was able to run without any entry fee and some people are already kinda about having to pay the $15 to attend the con.
-
More likely than not, the con wouldn't allow it. Wouldn't want dem kiddies getting hustled out of their money. Speaking of which, if you're going to do MMs, just keep it on the down low and stick to doing it with people in the scene. Last thing I want is some soccer mom coming up to me asking why her kid was stupid enough to bet money on a game they didn't know how to play. :3 You guys can deal with the silly prizes I end up giving out. :V Also, someone's been saying something about throwing money into the pot.
-
Thanks for the information. I almost forgot about needing extension cords.
-
I think they're going by the number of Hazamas that qualified for SBO. Which... isn't really an accurate way of determining someone's tier.
-
Sup Canada guys~ Uh... I haven't met any of you, sadly. I heard how the last attempt to come down here busted because you guys couldn't find a place to crash. Sooo.... *insert shameless plug* http://www.dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?9470-2010-Akicon-Tournament-(BBCS-MBAA-SSF4-GGAC-)-Coming-your-way-Nov-6!-Get-hype! You guys should totally come~ There's even a super cheap hotel deal going on for that weekend. Ok. I'm done taking up your thread. *ninjas back to PNW thread*

Lol. Any extra setups you wanna bring is cool. No gurantee that we'll have space. But if we do, it wouldn't hurt to have a few stations for casuals. If there's anything in paticular you need to know ahead of time or something you don't quite get/understand, let me know. ^_^ Oh yeah. I forgot to add this to the list but- Extension cords and surge protectors. :3 Those are also much loved.
-
XD Haha. Whenever we stop being poverty. The trip was fun, so I wouldn't mind going again. NCI looked really hype though, so good job guys.
-
^_^ I had fun watching the tournament (via interwebs). BTW- Nice pants Rod. XD;;
-
Dolla- I think? someone might be. Not 100% sure though. Also, projector is 100% confirmed. We need s-video, rca w/audio R L, vga, or HDMI cables. Anyone who has those (and wants to bring them) post please~ Streaming is sort of? confirmed. The hotel wants to charge some sort of fee for internet access, but Aki con is working on getting that waived. We have official permission though. If anyone has non-ghetto streaming equipment, that'd be super loved. :3 EDIT: Vet's a hero~ I'm also throwing my CT artbook into the prize pot. And I'll think about throwing in some of my sad life collection. Also... I should probably figure out some sort of schedule for finals... but I guess it'd really depend on how much of a turnout each game has. EDIT 2: Added information for a special that the Bellevue Hilton is having, for those of you who are interested in staying at the hotel.

@ Jason- Uh... in some instances, 5A's range might be too short and you'll get astralled anyway (or maybe I just timed it wrong or Spark's a magician, but I did just wait for him to do it, hit 5A and weee up I went). jA did get me out though. In general, jA is still pretty good against Tager. As bad as Rachel's normals are (as a whole), Tager's still got a syndrome of being trolled by normals and Rachel's are better than his. 5A/2A/jA can help you out a lot, even if you're not going to be getting big damage off of it. If you're good at IBing, IB 5B is also a good option.

Unless you're a ninja and get in magically or somehow otherwise get in for free, then yes. You will need to pay to get into the con to go to the tournament.
