"Time to Make History" Dustloop Revamp Community Effort #1

On the topic of the front page's layout again, if we could center the front page layout so the articles aren't always stretched to the far left, that would likely help. The fact that the articles stretch indefinitely in width really makes it feel pretty weird to look at. Alternatively, I think even just increasing the header font for each post and, if possible, perhaps increasing the gap between each post by a small margin would help towards readability and cleanliness. As it is, it feels rather cluttered and disorganized, to me. This is likely less impactful than just centering everything and setting a maximum width on the front page, though. -

I agree that the articles should look more like a news site if we want people to treat it as a source of news, but I'm not sure that the forum software actually allows for that? I've pretty much never worked with IP Board in depth, so I've got no clue what can and can't be done. -

This is a mindset that I think a lot of decent players have, and which actually tends to inhibit active discussion between players. It's probably going to be important to make members think of writing an analysis as a point of discussion rather than a criticism session. Not sure how we could go about doing this, though. I tend to write a note in my posts somewhere about taking everything I say with a grain of salt (as well as welcoming people to correct/contradict me) to help alleviate my own conscience on that point. :P -

Ah, when I said combo routes were established by the time we got the game, I meant that recording them for combo threads would be more reasonable, since they'd be unlikely to have to be re-recorded later. :P Sounds interesting, hopefully the ideas work out. I'm pretty guilty of not going to the General forums myself, either. I can't be bothered to look through all the random discussion that has no bearing on my character. -

@DJ_Blactricity: Interesting idea, though requiring community participation when posting videos seems unfortunately likely to deter people from posting anything. Asking for participation is always good, though, and community discussion before a full analysis sounds nice. @Myoro: There was a point in time when we actually (in some cases, anyway) did create short combo clips and link them to the relevant combos. It requires recording/capture equipment to make it clean, though, and is often a lot of work to consider putting in early on in a game's life, as combos change quite frequently. To be fair, though, many combos are settled by JP players by the time the games reach us on console anyway. @Luna: That may be something to consider, as well. Not sure it'd work too well, though, because I feel like a lot of players only visit their character subforums without actually ever visiting the general forums. A general thread could also just mirror all the analysis from the week, but that sounds way too messy when compared to the idea of a selected weekly analysis (obviously with a comment for players to visit their own subforums to participate :P ). -

I think it makes more sense in a character specific forum. Sounds too messy from a general forum perspective. It may be interesting to highlight an analysis in a general forum or otherwise more public form each week as well, though. Food for thought. -

I think there's room for a separate thread for player feedback. Providing match analysis of selected mid-level matches can only be helpful, in my opinion. On top of that, I think it's more likely (maybe?) for players to post their losses and ask for help than to post what might be considered a fairly even or well executed match for analysis. -

If you're choosing between the two options, I'd opt for also covering a lower level match. While high level match analysis is useful, it's often full of concepts and situations that lower level players won't experience or be able to use in their matches. This is in part why I say the video megathread is still a useful resource, even if it's clunky and requires effort from users. Mid level players can still pop it open, find mid level matches to watch, and look to see how other players deal with similar problems. Sorting the videos into matchup threads may work, but that sounds a bit clunky from a different perspective. I rather like being able to pop open a single list on say, my phone, and open match after match as I want to without having to navigate through multiple webpages. -

I was reminded of this post from a few years ago: http://www.dustloop.com/forums/index.php/topic/4133-my-ky-trade-secrets-thread/?p=500356 I'm unaware of how likely a new player is to reflect on their matches, but fostering that type of discussion can only be a good thing, and will probably provide another source of community discussion that can help keep the board active. On a personal level, this sounds far more feasible to me, and still sounds useful. -

The megathreads have a place as a resource of watching players of various skill levels, but they really aren't an easy source of finding specifically good videos. I'm keeping an eye on the Izayoi board as reference to see how it looks, but I'm not likely to actually nix the megathread any time soon. As far as match video discussion and analysis goes, I don't think I've seen any of that since the demise of the general discussion threads (not on JP vids, that is), so any start on encouraging that type of discussion is fully supported by me. There is a thread for discussing player matches in depth on the Rachel boards, which sees occasional use, so I suppose that's a starting point as well. I'll have to talk to the others about it, as I've been away from BB for so long that my game knowledge has fallen very far behind the curve. Very much the truth. -

Bit late to the party, but I would generally agree with the folks who say that the old General Discussion threads in each subforum helped bring players together. Those threads were moderated, and though it made the lives of moderators arguably tougher, since they had to dig through more posts each day, there was significantly more activity around the board. I admit to having a skewed perspective of it, though, as I mostly only visited the Rachel and Noel threads. Not sure how the other ones were, but I can't recall any issues with those two in particular. Any pertinent information tended to get placed in the correct threads, as well. Admitably, these days a lot of the old players have dropped off the radar and the lack of activity could just be attributed to life, but it's hard to say for sure whether the dearth of new players is affected by the atmosphere of each board or not. As far as moderation goes nowadays, the activity level of each board is so low that it feels like there's almost nothing that needs to be done. I pop in every now and then, go through every post and make sure no one's doing anything that needs to be dealt with, say welcomes to new players (rare as they are), and move on. The Rachel board in particular pretty much maintains and polices itself, thanks in large part to the core group of members (-cough- Gamester -cough-) who continue to maintain things like the wiki and video thread. ==== If all the site is meant to be is an info dump (which is what it's been turning into), the side game forums like Gundam, UNIEL, and so-on start to feel somewhat out-of-place. Since those aren't huge, multi-board beasts, discussion tends to stay more centralized and have more of an open-ended, community feeling to them. I don't think there's any problem, by the way, with removing the General Discussion threads from character subforums. The potential issue is that many players will only visit their character subforum, and will never see the other, general subforums for their particular game, and hence will see more of the information-dump, sterile posts than any sort of open-armed welcoming behaviour. This is part of the reason we keep a newcomer thread in the Rachel forum, though it really doesn't see much use these days. (edit: this is also why I reverted the main thread back to 'general discussion' when we remade it recently) I'm actually very curious about how the forums feel from the perspective of an Xrd mod, though. I only really remember things from the heyday of BB activity, and the P4 activity was divided heavily between this forum and the MM forum, so I'm not really sure how the recent surge of activity may have been. ==== As far as front page info is concerned, I'm still too used to the old format of Dustloop, where the forums were front-and-center, and the articles page was an afterthought. I generally don't even remember that we have a front page, let alone think of posting things to it (though I would likely refrain from doing so anyway, for various reasons). Tourney results, upcoming majors, loketest news, maybe CMVs, and so-on is all stuff that might as well be added to the articles list if anyone remembers to do so. -
Maa-kun hasn't actually dropped Yuzu, I believe, but yeah, he's pretty stuck on the Phonon rush at the moment. During loketests, there was a mention of 66C having a reduced hitbox, which made ending combos with it somewhat harder. Unsure if that change stuck. 2B relaunches are the most stable, so newer players may just be using it instead of 2C/etc. due to reliability? Who knows.

It's hard to justify buffing her, honestly. While the 4B nerf (unless it was also reverted) is annoying and makes her defense weaker, the rest of her tools are still strong enough to keep her in a good spot overall. Giving her a tool to hit(?) projectiles would be interesting, but not all that useful when she already can beat zoners with slashes, counter fireballs with 4B (remember, by the way, that Yuzu becomes invulnerable until she returns to neutral if the counter activates), and just stay above most projectiles by staying in stance. If she had the ability to actually beat projectiles anywhere on the screen, zoners would be completely unable to function against her. :P Not to say that I don't understand where you're coming from. It would be quite nice to not worry about slashes trading with things like fireballs, but it's probably for the best that it does, haha.

There was a mis-translation or incorrect report from an early loketest 1 player that led to the belief that slide was removed. Later players in loketest 1 did not mention anything about slide, and by loketest 2, I believe some players actually confirmed that it was still in the game. As for the flip recovery and damage nerfs from loketest 1, I don't believe anyone's talked about it after that, so whether those nerfs still exist or not is completely unknown to me. From the looks of the combos in the available footage, damage hasn't changed, so it may be reverted.
-
Her 236x moves trading is hardly a problem. The hurtbox doesn't extend to the end of the blade, and on trade, she generally wins and/or confirms a full combo anyway. If all you want to do is bait something at a mid-long range, use her 6x sword slashes instead, as they don't have extended hurtboxes. Sliding is still in the game. Most of the loketest 1 changes were reverted, and other players also stated that the initial belief that sliding was removed was, in fact, incorrect. If I recall correctly, the D stance icon represents an extra stance button for holding down and doing combos. I believe you cannot slide to it mid-stance (speculation), but you can hold it from the start of stance to keep the other buttons available. D cancelling is still in and, I believe, works as normal.

No, it's just a word. The phrase was "mazu ha...", which is something like "to start with/first off". I didn't hear a name for the Rachel player during that match, unfortunately.
-
Gordeau has notable frame advantage. There's a gap if the second hit is shielded, but he's still at advantage. You can look to the Mizuumi wiki for more information on frame data. It's generally correct, though there are some incorrect values scattered throughout the various character pages.

For what it's worth, you'll pretty much always have 1 GRD to spend on that combo as long as you aren't grd crushed. Hitting the opponent generates a bit of GRD, as does all the forward movement involved in the combo itself. Spending that GRD isn't really all that desirable, but eh, sometimes you want the damage. That said, I just opt for the mid-combo reload route (421B > 6 > 22C > 2A > etc.) because it's easy and I'm lazy. :P
-
Have you read through this guide before? It's still fairly relevant in most ways that matter. Some things have changed a bit between versions, so do keep in mind the differences while reading, but it's a worthwhile read regardless.
-
You need 1 GRD block to do the second 421B cancel. If you are grd crushed or have set training mode to give you no GRD (this happens when you set the opponent to have vorpal), you won't be able to complete the combo.
-
Since no one seems to have responded, I'll just answer this. That combo works the same way without vorpal. Not sure why the 5A wasn't coming out for you, but vorpal has no effect on that combo route. Have you gotten it working since then?
-
On an unrelated note, it's also confirmed that you can still spam infinite teleports (and likely all the related glitchiness that comes with it) in loketest 2 as Yuzu. There's no word on whether you can 1-hit cancel EX Slashes into stance moves outside of stance anymore, but that glitch is so useless it doesn't even matter. Does Yuzu have a vorpal bonus? Unless this was changed in Loke 1, Grd Thrust used to be 100 meter minimum, not 200. It consumed all a player's meter, though. And from the first post: Not sure what this is supposed to mean. I suspect it's a poorly worded statement that D-paired moves are back, or that D-cancelled moves are back. There's never been anything called D-plinking.

Like Valin said, it's stance dashing. Hold a button to stay in stance and double-tap left or right to dash. --- On an unrelated note, since the Norcal CMV is out now, I'll go ahead and mention the weird glitch I found for it: on hit, Yuzu can always cancel the first hit of 236C into any stance move. If you're out of stance buttons, you can still cancel it into something. Since the other glitch that allows her to always follow up an out-of-stance teleport with another stance move exists, this basically means that you can always do some stance stuff into out-of-stance slash > oos 236C (1 hit) > oos teleport > oos slash > oos 236C (1 hit) > etc. as long as you have meter. Not sure why you'd want to except for combo video purposes, but there you go. It's too bad it doesn't work on block, but it's pretty silly and obviously unintentional anyway.

Was that the rule we used? I remember asking for opinions a while back (did I ask here?), but I can't recall what our consensus was. If that's the case, I'll just do it when the game comes out to stay in line with that. Man. It feels like it's been so long since we last had to replace anything here, haha.
