Hard to advise there, since the Dual Shock 4's digital pad is too rigid (IMO). In some cases I switch from pad to analog stick. Annoying, but better than nothing for now.

Yup. Although I got used to it pretty quick. I do the 632146 motion with the Analog stick. I just hate switching from the Analog Stick to the D-Pad for dashing and micro dashes with Ramlethal but the worst is trying to instant air dash to the right with the Analog. Might have to pick up that new Persona stick Madcatz is coming out with.

I'm getting my Hori stick this week, so I will forget about this problem soon lol

Tried getting one of those fighting pads? the ones that look like the Saturn controller. I heard their digital pad is waaaaaaay better for this.

I use to have this issue on my PS2 and 3 as well. It gets better when you wear the dpad in from use, but there's something you can do in the mean time.

Go to training and look at your inputs when doing a HCB motion. Due to the stiffness, or unfamiliarity with controller use in fighters, you may be missing a crucial input. For me it's usually the 4 input. If that's the case, rolling your finger back a bit more has always solved the issue for me. When you hit 4, go further so you're just shy of hitting 7. Going for the 7 might even work for you too, since this is really about finger placement. Basically, this is a mental trick more than anything, but it works.

Never had a problem hitting those commands but I've been on pad for fighters my whole life from back in my saga gen days.

My tip would be this. Place your whole thumb horizontally over the bottom half of the d-pad (6 3 2 1 4). When going for the motion press forward and roll a half circle back to forward.

Dunno if my explanation really helps but thumb position is key for some movements.

Hori Fighting Commander 4 Pro is available and works for both PS3 and PS4, but NOTHING beats a Sega Saturn pad. Really wish it worked on PS4...

Hello, I have a bit of information i'd like to discuss in regards to input diffculty.

Now im on the ps3, im not sure if this makes a difference. but if anyone can correlate my results, I'd like to know.

I'm an controller player, specifically with the analog stick.  Now this is probably the worst control method of all possible options, but for the most part, i have always gotten by ok.  I have never felt significantly disadvantaged by this. However I have noticed something odd with Xrd that at first I assumed to me having become used to the looser inputs I have enjoyed with the BB series.

Now this is going to sound like a real common beginner problem, but I have been playing fighting with an analog stick for as  long as there have been fighting games on consoles that have analog sticks( and that used them. Most likely the main reason I never played tekken) so I'm fairly confident this is not a wetware issue.

I am having great difficulty doing 236236 inputs on the right side of the screen( or 214214 on the left, you know what I mean) Its set to display inputs in trainning mode, I get 236236P exactly, fast and precise(I have also tried slow and precise). success is comepletely random, with no correlation to my accuracy.

Normally this can be attributed to it being easior to move the thumb outward rather then inward, but if I was dropping inputs the reader would show it.

I have no problem whatsoever with the dpad getting this to work. But heres the kicker, I have pc controller thats compatible with the ps3.  On this controller is a switch that converts the analog stick into dpad inputs. I can use the stick and fail randomly, but if I set it digital inputs the problem stops.

Exact same stick, exact same physical motions, with the exact same timing.  But different results depend on the setting.

Now if your wondering how I have a problem if I have such a controller, its got its own set of damn issues, not the least of which is the lack of PS and select button.

its entirely possible that both my controllers have some sort of problem, but I feel thats unlikely.  Anyone with input on the matter?

Now that I have a ps4 I can def see what you mean about the 632146 motion.

The D-pad on the ds4 is some thing I've never used before. All my other controllers have the entire Dpad out which feels so much better.

I will say I'm still learning the ds4 controller from fighters but for this motion the best I do is this.

I move my thumb in a half circle motion much lower than I would on a regular dpad. Even then it's still a bit hard.

Again I feel your pain now with the ds4. So many matches lost while learning this controller and I'm sure I'll lose even more.

Just as a side note I really wish they would make some ps4 sticks that DONT cost 180+. What ever happened to the small sticks from madcatz that only ran 80.

The Hori Hayabusa is being sold in the UK for ~£100 which is like ~$160, so you should be able to get it for a similar price in NA (I assume that's where you're from).

Trying to bare with the DS4 until I get mine, which isn't exactly pleasant. Missing motions aside my thumb hurts like hell after a few hours of playing.

I've looked for sticks for the ps4 under 180 but sadly ebay,amazon..ect are all 200+..esp when your having to import a stick for jp.

I too use a ps3 gamepad controller.  Today I was using May in arcade mode.  Every time I attack while using 2, and then switch to 4 to charge for Mr Dolphin followed by an attack button, she always does Mr Otter.  I know this also sounds like a common mistake for newer players.  I've been playing since the first GG on ps1 and I've always used a console controller for all of the fighting games I've played.  I am finding it really odd how I couldn't start a charge without idmediately going into Mr Otter! lol.  I started to think my controllers were just jacked up, but I'm not quite sure.  I do remember the first blazblue cp balance patch made it so gamepad users could input certain commands easier.  Maybe Xrd will get something like that down the line.

Some of what your describing on the ps4 ds4 is probablydue to tthe angle your holding the controller. Happened to me a lot when the demo was out before I had my stick. And the sensitivity xrd has that Bb does not (maybe its a ds3 to ds4 sensitivity thing) that could be part of the issues.

While I'm not a pad guy I've been forced on them ocassioanlly and I did start my gig life in x2 with the stock PS2 pad. (For the record I chose the pad on x2 because my stick made me far to slow back then) So I've been in similar positions before.

All in all the commander is probably the best bet right now for a replacement to the ds4. Which honestly the ds4 doesn't function as a wired controller even when hooked up so that's a tournament no no right there and should be decwmt incentive to find something else asap.

@Ziggy the mr otter thing sounds like a simple input flub where your managing your charges and attacks poorly (I'm no may player though so take that with a grain of salt) I've had an issue with mays OHK on the ds4 as well as a few other problems which once I started using the analog stick dissapeared.
