Fight stick recommendations / Converter Help

Hello,

 

 

Does anyone have any sticks to recommend for ps4? The HRAP 4 seems all sold out at $150

 

Also, I have a HRAP 1 that is about 10 years old, but still works well. Is there a converter that converts ps2 - ps4?

It immediately sold out, however.  Honestly, the PS4 fighting sticks are super slim pickings right now (I'm in the market myself).  As far as I'm aware ther eis not a converter from PS2->PS4 but someone else could certainly correct me on that.

Try ordering the Hori V4 from Amiami. They still have the Silent Blue model for, 15000 yen, more or less. I suggest you to hurry and order it if you really want something to play GGXrd on PS4.

Madcatz has the SF4 stick for PS4 which is exactly the same as the GG stick but different artwork. Still better than waiting on the GG one to arrive. There are converter's like the Cronus device. I tried that one and it does work (ps3 > ps4) but there is a little bit of input lag. So I dont think its worth it imo.

hayabusa stick > sanwa jlf. imo and most reviews i have read,

 

i was very impressed with hori v4, prefer in every way to my sanwa stuff. 

i also prefer to the 30mm buttons over the 24mm

Also, how can you make the Cronus recognize an old PS3 stick on PS4? I heard you had to connect it to PC and apply a weird script.

Honestly for ps4 sticks the Hori RAP v4 is my preferred stick but the mad catz isn't bad if you like sanwa guts. Its also a bit more handy to swap out parts for things like seimitsu parts etc:

The Hori has sorta rat nest wiring but if you never open it that's a non issue. Only real downside to the hori IMO is its lightweight.

Is the V4 Hayabusa moddable with a standard bat top? That might be what I get, if so. I've only used Sanwa parts before, but Hori seems like a much better deal for the price.

 

Edit: Maker, if you open it up you can always duct tape a couple weights inside the case, lol.

Yeah I've considered using old tire weights left over from changing tires and balances.

As for the modding for bat top. If it will screw on you'll likely need a stiffer spring as a common complaint of even ball top swaps on SRK is that you get an opposite I put when returning to neutral by releasing the stick.

It can also easily be modded with a octogate but you need longer screws.

Really, is the joystick different from a Sanwa one somehow? I have the Madcatz Soul Calibur V one and I didn't really notice a difference when I put a bat top on it.

Different enough in manufacturing that you have to drill out some holes on the octogate housing to make it work which is pretty standard for HORI and the internal design of the stick is different as well.

It is similar to other sanwa sticks in that some parts can be used here and there.

As for feel I feel like its a bit lighter and smoother on the inputs yet returns to neutral fine. That said I haven't had a problem with the five or so sanwa sticks I've had in the past so if your thinking of swapping it out just go with your gut.

Seems like all the sticks are out of stock at most of the standard retailers, and it looks pretty hard to find them at a price that isn't marked up.

People realized that they gonna have to move to ps4 for fighting games. That is what it seems like anyway.

Foresight is priceless sometimes. Your best bet at this point is choose which ever stick you think you want and just check every day for available units or just place an order with the company website and patiently wait. The sooner the better usually.

The HRAP4 Hayabusa/Kuro is the only thing in stock where I live, and would be my first exposure to a high end fight stick (Only had a Mad Catz SE before), would it be worth my time and investment to get a hold of this thing and learn to use it? I really don't like playing on a DS4 but I'm finally getting back into playing GG with Xrd out now...

 

I've had very little prior experience with Sanwa and Seimetsu parts (arcades and other peoples' sticks), so I figured trying this stick wouldn't give me a knee jerk reaction against the feel of the parts.

Short version: Its a quality stick. In my opinion (and it is just that) it's probably the best you'll get without going into customs in your current situation.

 

Pros:

Lightweight

Responsive stick / buttons

Relatively cheap (150 USD usually)

Quality construction of working parts (except the door see below*)

 

Cons:

Lightweight

A bit more difficult to swap restrictor gates than the sanwa JLF

*same dogshit cable door that everyone always complains about.

 

Long Version (Expanded explanation)

I've spent time with Hori Rap V2, V3 (friends) an old EX (i was young once too guys), four TE's all modded in various ways, an Eightarc with sanwa everything and one Seimitsu buttoned stick a friend had (no clue who made it). To compare the Hori RAP V4 Hayabusa to my JLF and old Hori Exp. I'd just put it right there with the JLF in quality but I feel like its a lot lighter and more responsive.

 

I say this because when I started on Xrd with it I had to really adjust to the box restrictor gate coming from an octogonal restrictor AND the Hori was flicking like smooth melted butter. So I wasn't ready for that level of ease. Took me a good week to wrangle in my wrist and fingers. Once there though it feels nice. 

 

Would I take it over all my other sticks at this point? Yeah I wish it had more heft to the case and a felt liner on the bottom like my Eightarc but lets face it, 50 USD cheaper and a PS3/4 stick isn't a bad option. You'd also be covered if you plan to attend a tournament. 

 

All in all I say go for it if you're sure you want to use a stick and have the money. I do not regret a dime spent.

So for the V4 Hayabusa AmiAmi is charging me 6,265 yen for SAL shipping, which makes the grand total $179.92. I dunno if it's worth it... I do like the way the stick sounds from how Maker and others have described it, but that is a pretty high shipping charge. Still a bit cheaper than most sticks, though...

edit: I switched the shipping to EMS and it's only about 7 dollars more. I guess I'm gonna give this thing a shot.

$180 + for a stick from a site like AmiAmi is a bit much for me. I'm not saying its bad, but I rather not have to deal with any problems with a retailer in Japan.

 

On a side note, supposedly the release of Skull Girls for PS4 would include a driver that supports PS3 sticks on the PS4.

This would likely be a MUCH cheaper option, plus you would be supporting Skull Girls! Supposedly there is a tentative release date in late January 2015 or something.

Unfortunately I think that driver only works with games that include it in their code, such as Skullgirls. For Xrd you will probably still need a new stick.

I'm ready to upgrade to PS4 but the stick situation is killing me. I went to Mad Catz to preorder the P4U stick and it's sold out already. Damn.

A bit expensive still for me to justify spending for it... but i'm getting desperate...

finding a ps4 stick should not be this hard...i'd reckon its easier to make one...
