So I just got a ps4 for xmas which is awesome. I finally get to play my favorite fighting game of all time GG.

The problem I'm having is I'm on pad. There's no way to buy an arcade stick atm(funds just aren't there)

Anyway the problem I'm having is I just can't seem to Jump Cancel, hit combos consistently, or really find ways into gattling combos. When I do online I generally get called a scrub or people just stop playing me because I'm to free.

Does anyone know of any tips for Dpad execution. I'm pretty solid on stick but again 200 bucks for a stick is just out of the question right now. I've seen people that are really solid on pad and was wondering if anyone here thats solid on pad could toss some tips my way.

I know I'll prolly get links to the hori stick since its 150 or so but even thats to high of a price when you factor in the 50-70 bucks you gotta pay for shipping from JP sites.

Anyway all tips would be very much appreciated.

Go on kijiji and look for used local sticks. My friend got a madcatz te for 50$ flat, dont know about ps4 though.

What characters do you play? You should be specific about the combos you are having trouble with.

the pad issue is more about dashes, backdashings and instant air dashing than character inherent, imo, and also same execution problems for me.

Pad warriors use to play with the directional pad? or they use the L3? Any tips for improving consistency on mobility? I can dash on directional pad but on analogic is nerly imposible... and I can be consistent on specials motion on analogic but using dpad is hard... so I have trouble with both input interfaces.

I can't find any ps4 fight sticks that arnt unreasonably marked up, so I play on pad and did some testing in practice mode. I'm convinced that the DS4 dpad has input issues I back dashed forward dashed repeatedly for 20 mins and there is always inconsistencies where it doesn't accept the second input. So I tried using my right hand index finger to dash (and mind you I can do the metal gear solid torture room with out losing health) as fast as I could and and got the same inconsistencies where it stutters. And diagonals for IAD lol don't even get me started.. I didn't have any of these issues with the DS3 when playing persona or BB.. I can't wait till hotbox comes out with ps4 version.. I'm tempted to send mine off to gummods to get it nodded for 140 bucks but still debating.

Don't use the Dpad if you can help it, the left analog stick (yes i know it sounds like a bad idea) is about as good as you're going to get. I've tried the pad myself being an original pad player for GG way back when but it just doesn't cut it. My advice would be stick with that analog stick and treat it like a mini arcade stick for the time being until you can afford your arcade stick of choice. Don't worry about other people complaining their opinions are just that.

Thanks for the tips everyone. I've been away due to being super sick so I wasn't able to check this thread for a bit.

I agree that the DS4 pad is doing some thing wrong with the inputs. I'm super used to the 360 pad and had zero issues with it. I just hope they release a fight pad for the PS4 that exposes the whole dpad.

I've tried the Analog stick but its super hard to use for Fight Games but I'll give it another shot. My biggest problem with the Ano Stick was hitting the PS Home button a ton of times when going for faster direction inputs.

I saw the MK10 fightpad I think it could be really good if the Ano Stick has a very short throw.

In of the day I might just buy an older (Cheaper) ps3 stick and dual mod it.

That or give up on being competitive at GG and wait for a some one to make a $60-100 stick or a real fight pad for the PS4.

Time will tell.

I still love this game.

At the moment I like playing Leo,Faust, and Slayer.

Dude It's not that hard. Just practice.

I know its not that hard I've been playing on Pad since my old Sega Gen days. I've had no problems with pads until the I started using the PS4's DS4.

This thread is to figure out if other people are having the same problems and to see if other players who have had problems with the DS4 have found ways around it.

So far the consensus is people using the DS4 have switched to Ano Stick.

Just a quick side note Since almost all my fight games have been played on pad I've never had any problems hitting huge combos or simple CCB,CCF..ect until the DS4.

Yes the ps4 pad is poop.  For me it has trouble reading diagnol down left.  It's not just that controller, my other one has the same issue.

Well I think it's more like the diagnols have to be pressed much harder than other d-pads to register it, and the way my thumb do motions.. I guess doesn't hit that area hard enough.

My cousin also complained about the diagnols having to be pressed too hard to register.

I just change the position of my thumb depending on what side I'm one, but it feels awkward and still I sometimes don't get it out.  I would advise getting a stick if you really want to take the game seriously.  As for me.. I can live missing some moves occationally...

The analog should do okay for the time being on the DS4, i have a friend who played the most terrifying Tager i ran into on 360 blazblue and he used the 360 regular controllers analog stick to pull that stuff off. (I to this day do not understand how he managed that)

I'd be very surprised if the analog sticks on the DS4 couldn't get the job done with a lot of practice.
